SIR CHRISTOPHER LEE REMEMBERED TODAY : FIVE YEARS ON . . .

SIR #CHRISTOPHERLEE remembered today. It is five years since the passing of Christopher Lee... but his huge legacy of work and life, reminds us all here very often, of how lucky we all were to have had such an impressive and talent individual with us then . . and who still continues to entertain and influence so many even today!

BACK IN 2015 when Christopher Lee passed, Bryan Adams posted this comment about his time with Lee, during their photo session :

'Singer Bryan Adams has paid tribute to veteran actor Sir Christopher Lee, who died aged 93 on Sunday. The Canadian rocker met Lee - famous for his chilling portrayals of screen villains from Dracula to the wizard Saruman in Lord of the Rings - when he took photographs of him for a book. The pair hit it off and Adams told how the actor used to leave funny phone messages for him.

"One I can sort of recall was sort of like...'Hello Bryan, I see you cut a swathe through Paris. Many people have called me to say they have seen you in various states of debauchery, and quite right too'... It was brilliant," he said.
Adams added Sir Christopher Lee was a "great character" who would be "greatly missed".

Back last year, I was sent a photograph of Christopher Lee, which I thought was really something! I loved the pose, the lighting and the attitude that the photographer had managed to get from Lee . . Little did I know that, the photograph was one of a collection of portraits in 2018 at exhibition called 'EXPOSE', by none other than singer Bryan Adams! His exhibition contains many really interesting portraits from Sir Ben Kingsley, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Louise Bourgeois, Lindsay Lohan and Dame Judi Dench. . . an impressive list, which also included 'Her Majesty The Queen', no less! I still think this is one of my most favourite portraits of Christopher Lee . . Lee would have loved the position of his frame in the gallery too 😉😊 - Marcus Brooks

AS YOU HAVE no doubt spotted, I try to share something related to his work with Peter often, plus we do have a Christopher Lee theme EVERY Saturday here too!

RECENTLY FOUND interviews, clips and banner features...these posts, thanks to you are always well received and supported. I always take time to read the many comments and text messages from followers and members, who still miss his him and regularly watch his many many roles on TV and film!

GIFS GALLERY: WE'VE HIT ANOTHER MILESTONE OVER AT FACEBOOK

THIS IS AMAZING! A HUGE thank you to everyone who visits and supports this Facebook Fan Page and who has joined us in the last SEVEN DAYS, since we announced reaching TWENTY TWO thousand followers!

THE PETER CUSHING Appreciation Society Facebook Fan Page now has Over 23 THOUSAND Friends and Followers! This, I hope you realise, has only been archived with your fantastic support, your likes, shares. The total was hit BEFORE my chat with Nick Digilio on WGN RADIO in the USA, yesterday. You may have spotted the change in the total, like I did on Wednesday. I thought there was a bug or a glitch in the facebook system...so we waited, to see if it changed. But no, it racked up 22 thousand last Wednesday, and THIS Wednesday this NEW total was reached. It's still climbing!

I GUESS THIS PROVES what we have always known... it isn't really a question of Peter Cushing's assured place in cinema history, this proof of his relevance... TODAY! You prove that, and not just here.... I'll leave you with this though... A tool I use to assist with managing the website and this page, is an 'ALERT' option on my google mail. So, if any news, feature or mention of Peter Cushing is made on the net, I get a notification in my mail, to let me know. Let me just say, SIX out SEVEN days, there are ALWAYS fifty to sixty notifications...in the morning! That is filled up again with NEW notifications after lunch! AS Peter said about Helen when she passed, 'She hasn't GONE anywhere, she is HERE!' I have to agree, Peter Cushing is very much alive and kicking...and not just here either!

REMEMBERING CHRISTOPHER LEE : HAPPY BIRTHDAY

HERE IS THE FIRST of two main posts today for TWO splendid gentlemen, who by a strange quirk of fate, SHARED their birthday's today, 27th May.

SADLY, neither are no longer with us... Christopher Lee and Vincent Price. Lee's passing was almost a year ago, June 7th last year. A sad loss even at his age...we just didn't want him to go. A close friend of Peter Cushing's, celebrated and remembered here, almost as much as Peter. He had a career that stretched across almost every genre in the industry. His accomplishments were many, his skill as an actor even as he grew frail, never left him... and neither did we.

SO TODAY, RAISE A GLASS of whatever is handy, Sir Christopher Lee we STILL salute you and remember you as a gentleman, a scholar and a towering talent, never to be replaced on the screen and in the hearts of many... a very HAPPY  BIRTHDAY today!

I DON'T CARE IF HE'S GOD!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER CUSHING : ANOTHER LAST MEETING CLIP

OUR SECOND RARE clip today from 'THE LAST MEETING' raw footage of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee meeting for the last time in 1994. Here, Christopher Lee shares the story of how he and Peter were doing the rounds of interviews and promotion for Dracula in 1958 in New York, and the larger than life radio presenter 'Long John' Nebel, giving Hammer films Chairman, James Carreras a piece of advice! Christopher Lee obviously again enjoys making Peter laugh. Just watching them both, so candid and relaxed, Peter obviously loves Lee's stories. It so good to see them both enjoying each others company, for one last time....

This is one of EIGHT clips, in an archive to which we are currently adding new clips. You can find all eight here in our Facebook video library or at our Youtube Channel. ENJOY!

TWENTY TWO THOUSAND FOLLOWERS AND FREINDS : THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

TODAY, thanks to everyone who visits our Facebook Fan Page, we have hit another amazing milestone! The Peter Cushing Appreciation Society Facebook Fan Page now has Over 22 THOUSAND Friends and Followers! This has only been archived with your fantastic support, your likes, shares, interaction...which I am, as always very humbled by and most grateful.

PCAS was founded back in 1956, but in 1979 Peter Cushing decided that, because he was then committing to less work, that the public would lose interest, and requested that his fan clubs around the world be closed. I took over the society in 1978 and made a decision to carry on, believing that there would ALWAYS be an interest in Peter Cushing and his work... here we are in 2016 and the interest is even greater! You make it so... and that I am sure, would have warmed Peter's heart tremendously .. Here's to the next milestone and the fun along the way. Thank You - Marcus Brooks

THE PETER CUSHING SCRAPBOOK REVIEW : A RARE VISUAL TREASURE! BY TROY HOWARTH

Peter Cushing is, of course, one of the most beloved figures in the horror genre.  An impeccably gifted actor, he is revered both for his work on screen and for his gentlemanly image off-screen.  He died in 1994, but his legacy lives on through the many fine performances he left behind.

Naturally, given his standing in the genre community, there have been quite a few books written about him.  These have ranged from the thoughtful to the superficial and in terms of coming to grips with the complex character of the man himself, there really is no better resource than his own memoirs, which candidly – albeit in a classy manner typical of the man himself – reveal his many failings which make it clear that he did not view himself as a Saint, even if his fans sometimes do.  One would think that only so much could be written about him and the films he appeared in, but fortunately for the fans, there is no reason to believe that the market for Cushing has dried up as of yet.

The Peter Cushing Scrapbook is a labor of love, if we may use that hackneyed term, which was undertaken by author Wayne Kinsey, designed by Steve Kirkham with film overviews by Tom Miller, together with Cushing’s trusted secretary and personal assistant, Joyce Broughton.  The book is notable for its assemblage of rare, mouth-watering visual material: the ultra-meticulous Cushing was fond of making detailed notes and drawings on his scripts and the authors have managed to gain access to some of these treasures, thus allowing the fanbase to gain a better insight into his working methods.  Cushing was also a talented artist in his own right and the book allows ample insight into this: we are treated to numerous glimpses of his watercolors and paintings, as well as to his immaculately crafted models.

Fans who have never delved into this side of the man will be fascinated indeed, inspired, by the beautiful work on display here. Kinsey and Miller have also assembled a number of terrific behind the scenes pictures, candid shots and theatrical poster artwork, which makes the book a tremendously visual experience.

All of this should not serve to short-change the quality of the writing, however, which is up to the usual standard exhibited in the authors’ other works.  Simply put, Kinsey and Miller know their Cushing trivia and the book is packed with interesting annecdotes and commentary on each and every one of the “gentleman of horror”’s 91 film credits, to say nothing of his voluminous stage and television work.  The end result is not necessarily definitive – and thank goodness for that, as that means there’s still more to be said on the topic – but it provides a wonderfully incisive and heartfelt tribute to a gifted actor and a fine human being.

Peveril Publishing are to be congratulated on the high quality of their layout and design work, which reproduces these rare visual treasures in crisp detail. Fans of Peter Cushing will not be disappointed.
