THE HAUNTING OF HERSTMONCEAUX CASTLE AND REMEMBERING DIANA DORS!

THIS WEEKS CUSHING TUESDAY TOUGHY: IDENTIFY THE ACTOR and INVESTIGATING the similarities, should not be too difficult! THE ANSWER if  SOLVED will appear here on FRIDAY. IF it remains UNSOLVED, I will reveal the solution NEXT TUESDAY! GOOD LUCK! The photograph of Peter Cushing is from Hammer films, 'SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST' which stars Richard Greene and Peter Cushing. THURSDAY marks it's RELEASE on BLU RAY from TWILIGHT TIME on a REGION FREE DISC! MORE NEWS on THAT HERE tomorow!

THE ANSWER WE WERE looking for was HAUNTED: HERSTMONCEAUX CASTLE made in 1975. There were clues that WEREWOLF?: Cushing worked with Paul Annette, the DIRECTOR of the documentary, just two years before in Amicus films, 'The Beast Must Die' in 1973. Annette directed BOTH. 'The Beast Must Die' was about a WEREWOLF. A HAUNTING? Herstmonceaux Castle claims to be HAUNTED, and is the theme of the documentary. SUSSEX? Castle Herstmonceaux is based in SUSSEX. CASTLE? That's the theme and setting of the documentary. PETER CUSHING? Cushing provided the NARRATION for the entire documentary! The photograph of Peter wearing the bowler hat is taken from 'The Legend of the Werewolf', a Tyburn Film. It has no connection other than it also features a werewolf, like The Beast Must Die. This was a RED HERRING!

REMEMBERING: Diana Dors born today, October 23rd 1931. '"I’m the kind of girl that things naturally happen to. When they don’t, I give them a push"....Dors much loved and real national treasure for many years with a career as a model, actress, television personality and 'blonde bombshell'...and also a co star in TWO Peter Cushing films. 'From Beyond The Grave' for Amicus films and 'Nothing But The Night' also with Christopher Lee.

ABOVE AND BELOW: HOW BOTH CUSHING AND DORS looked in Amicus films, FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE in 1973

REMEMBERING MADELEINE COLLINSON AND NEW QUESTION AND ANSWER TO THE TUESDAY TOUGHY!

TODAY WE REMEMBER one half of the Collinson twins who sadly passed on this day in 2014 . Madeleine Collinson was born on July 22, 1952 in Malta. She's the identical twin sister of Madeleine Collinson. The Collinson twins arrived in Britain in April, 1969. Noted British glamor photographer Harrison Marks cast the duo as saucy maids in his 8mm short "Halfway Inn."

MARY AND MADELEINE were the Playmates of the Month in the October, 1970 issue of "Playboy;" they have the distinction of being the first pair of identical twins to pose for a nude pictorial in "Playboy." The Collinson sisters went on to act in a handful of movies together; they were especially effective and memorable as the radically contrasting siblings in the typically fine Hammer vampire horror outing "Twins of Evil" with Peter Cushing.

ABOVE THIS WEEKS CUSHING TUESDAY TOUGHY. BELOW THE QUESTION AND ANSWER TO LAST WEEKS TOUGHY . .

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: TOGS THREADS AND DUDS : SHARP DRESSER AND NO SCHMATTA

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: Look around you. Today, it's all too easy to slip on a tee-shirt and a pair of joggers and go to the store. Just the other day, sitting on a train, the majority of my fellow passengers looked like they didn't have a mirror in their home! Back in the day, not so, Peter Cushing. Ok, the 1950's and 60's did have a certain class, no onesies back then. Individuals had dressers and consultants, who would purchase clothing for them, AND dress them.

BUT, NOT MR C. There are some who can wear a hat, 'You have a head for a hat' I've heard people say, or there are men who put on a suit and look a million bucks. Like Peter Cushing. Maybe it was his height, his slim build? He certainly could carry a suit very well. It wasn't always this way.

TRIVIA: PETER CUSHING  was a member of the 'WAISTCOAT CLUB', which was founded in 1953, by actor Jon Pertwee. Above we see Cushing at a Waistcoat Club New Years Eve Party function.

WHEN HIS WIFE HELEN, met Peter for the first time, she though he was a tramp! 'He wore an old velvet cap, with a hole in the crown and was carrying a very heavy old kit bag, like sailors use. A jacket beyond description AND repair. A white shirt, that was spotless, but worn at the cuffs and collar, a pair of once dark corduroy trousers, most of the nap worn away from constant wear and a pair of down-at-heel shoes of grey suede. I was later to find that the shoes had holes in their soles, as large as half crowns. His woolen socks had never known the comfort of a darning needle. BUT I knew I would love him, for the rest of my days...and beyond...' Cushing's attire did certainly improve once he and Helen were married in 1943. Cushing clothing was of enough merit, i think to mention here today. And if you are wondering where this feature will archived? You'll find it in the same file, as 'Christopher Lee's wigs'! It's all good! - Marcus

#ONSETSATURDAY: WIRES, HOOKS AND EYES LOOKING FOR BEHIND THE SCENES TRIVIA

#ONSETSATURDAY: Yvonne Monlaur is a shot from Peter Cushing's 'The Brides of Dracula' Poor ol Monlaur's damsel in distress Marianne Danielle, had all sorts of danger to avoid in the vampire's lair, Chateau Meinster... horrible house-keepers, mad Mother's, sinister son's..and CABLES!

#ONSETSATURDAY: The first of our on set posts today, on just how Christopher Lee got into that superb looking 'Mummy Costume' in Hammer films, 'THE MUMMY' co starring Peter Cushing back in 1959. . .

#ONTHESETSATURDAY: Broadcast as part of the traditional SUNDAY NIGHT DRAMA on BBC television on March 6th 1955, Peter Cushing in his memoirs, remembered 'The Moment of Truth' co written by Nigel Kneale, Peter Ustinov as a particularly 'dry old stick'. It was according to Cushing a depressing affair, that not even the talents of director, Rudolph Cartier could lift out of the dull-drums. It was hoped that Cartier and Cushing would rework the magic they had made to great public and critical success just three months previous with their nightmare production of Orwell's '1984'. Alas, it was not to be. Pictured here during rehearsals at the BBC, Cushing as The Prime Minister, Walter Rilla as The Victor and Jeannette Sterke as The Marshall's daughter. The satire-comedy tells the story of a republic which is about to fall, while facing the threat of invading army with crippling government structure. Ustinov wrote the play inspired by French hero Marshal Petain and his political collusion with the Nazi’s and the events resulting in creation of Vichy France. This two hour play started life as a theatre play which premiered at the Adelphi Theatre in 1951.
