THE HAUNTING OF HERSTMONCEAUX CASTLE AND REMEMBERING DIANA DORS!

THIS WEEKS CUSHING TUESDAY TOUGHY: IDENTIFY THE ACTOR and INVESTIGATING the similarities, should not be too difficult! THE ANSWER if  SOLVED will appear here on FRIDAY. IF it remains UNSOLVED, I will reveal the solution NEXT TUESDAY! GOOD LUCK! The photograph of Peter Cushing is from Hammer films, 'SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST' which stars Richard Greene and Peter Cushing. THURSDAY marks it's RELEASE on BLU RAY from TWILIGHT TIME on a REGION FREE DISC! MORE NEWS on THAT HERE tomorow!

THE ANSWER WE WERE looking for was HAUNTED: HERSTMONCEAUX CASTLE made in 1975. There were clues that WEREWOLF?: Cushing worked with Paul Annette, the DIRECTOR of the documentary, just two years before in Amicus films, 'The Beast Must Die' in 1973. Annette directed BOTH. 'The Beast Must Die' was about a WEREWOLF. A HAUNTING? Herstmonceaux Castle claims to be HAUNTED, and is the theme of the documentary. SUSSEX? Castle Herstmonceaux is based in SUSSEX. CASTLE? That's the theme and setting of the documentary. PETER CUSHING? Cushing provided the NARRATION for the entire documentary! The photograph of Peter wearing the bowler hat is taken from 'The Legend of the Werewolf', a Tyburn Film. It has no connection other than it also features a werewolf, like The Beast Must Die. This was a RED HERRING!

REMEMBERING: Diana Dors born today, October 23rd 1931. '"I’m the kind of girl that things naturally happen to. When they don’t, I give them a push"....Dors much loved and real national treasure for many years with a career as a model, actress, television personality and 'blonde bombshell'...and also a co star in TWO Peter Cushing films. 'From Beyond The Grave' for Amicus films and 'Nothing But The Night' also with Christopher Lee.

ABOVE AND BELOW: HOW BOTH CUSHING AND DORS looked in Amicus films, FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE in 1973

ABOVE THIS WEEKS TUESDAY TOUGHY! Good luck with this one and feel free to pop along to the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE and post YOUR answer in the THREAD! MEANWHILE, below here is LAST WEEKS ANSWER!

ANSWER: DAVID KRESKIN an American Mentalist who was very popular on television in both the US and UK during the 1970's. In 1973 he broadcast a daytime TV series on ITV in the UK. Kreskin always claimed to be an 'entertainer', never a psychic, he operated using the power of suggestion, not paranormal or supernatural. In JULY 1973 Peter Cushing appeared as a guest on the daytime UK show and took part in a ten minute feature, where he was invited to write a NAME of his choice, on a piece of paper. Kreskin did not see the name, as it written and folded up. This paper was then set alight with a match, placed onto a china plate and the ashes from the paper were then rubbed lightly, onto the bare arm of Cushing, where the name HELEN then magically appeared! Helen was Cushing's late wife, who had died just two years previously. Kreskin at the beginning of the trick, did mention he had no prior knowledge of the name that Peter Cushing had chosen to write on the note paper. As with all magic tricks . . . the trick is in the preparation!

ABOVE: TELEVISION LISTING MAGAZINE TV TIMES with the listing of Cushing's appearance on the show. BELOW: Not AUSTIN POWERS but KRESKIN, during his tv show . . .

AT THE TIME when Cushing was still still in deep moaning for his late wife, I personally think, this was such an odd event and choice from Cushing. He never truly recovered for the twenty years odd years, he outlived Helen. Granted, he did a few years later also include a photograph of Helen in the Tyburn film, THE GHOUL'. But this, just seems weird and more than a little mawkish? Maybe it's just me, but I remember seeing this show as a teenager when it was broadcast, and even then, thought it odd. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. It's a tv appearance which many would not now remember and is hardly ever mentioned. I am sure there will be several comments on this at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE TODAY. PLEASE feel free to join in with your comments and thoughts too!

REMEMBERING MADELEINE COLLINSON AND NEW QUESTION AND ANSWER TO THE TUESDAY TOUGHY!

TODAY WE REMEMBER one half of the Collinson twins who sadly passed on this day in 2014 . Madeleine Collinson was born on July 22, 1952 in Malta. She's the identical twin sister of Madeleine Collinson. The Collinson twins arrived in Britain in April, 1969. Noted British glamor photographer Harrison Marks cast the duo as saucy maids in his 8mm short "Halfway Inn."

MARY AND MADELEINE were the Playmates of the Month in the October, 1970 issue of "Playboy;" they have the distinction of being the first pair of identical twins to pose for a nude pictorial in "Playboy." The Collinson sisters went on to act in a handful of movies together; they were especially effective and memorable as the radically contrasting siblings in the typically fine Hammer vampire horror outing "Twins of Evil" with Peter Cushing.

ABOVE THIS WEEKS CUSHING TUESDAY TOUGHY. BELOW THE QUESTION AND ANSWER TO LAST WEEKS TOUGHY . .

AS ALWAYS we make a point of, if you too would like to share your thoughts and memories of anyone who is included in a memorial post here at our website, you can join us at the FACEBOOK PETER CUSHING APPRECIATION SOCIETY UK FAN PAGE. You will be most welcome to add your message onto the thread!

PETER CUSHING: THE TUESDAY TOUGHY AND COCA COLA TARKIN!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY! IT'S TUESDAY, and as well as cool, we have TOUGH! The TUESDAY TOUGIE! You'll find this week's question, interesting. The fact in the answer, I don't think is THAT well known. Unless of course..YOU know it! BELOW you'll find the ANSWER for last week. Which, is a pretty cool one. NO ONE provided the correct answer for THAT ONE!  Send your answer to our usual
PCAS email  address : petercushingpcas@gmail.com

LAST WEEK'S TUESDAY TOUGHIE ANSWER
IS BELOW!

THE ANSWER WE WERE LOOKING FOR, WAS THE NAME REGINALD BECK! If that surname looks familiar to you, here is why! Reginald (Reggie) Beck was a British film editor with forty-nine credits from 1932 to 1985. He is noted primarily for films he made with Laurence Olivier in the 1940s and with Joseph Losey in the 1960s and 1970s. He was the brother of Violet Helen Beck Cushing, wife of . . . Peter Cushing. Beck worked closely with Olivier on HAMLET in which Peter played OSRIC. It was Cushing's first major screen role in 1948.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY! CUSHING'S TARKIN and DARTH VADER, Coca Cola Posters!  In 1977, George Lucas recognized the value of merchandising his new movie, and he approached many companies about doing special advertising tie-in posters. He made four deals for the exact same posters with Coca-Cola! There was a set of 4 posters and one of the four deals was distributed through Burger Kings, and at the bottom of each, it said "A poster series from The Coca-Cola Company and Burger King", and each had "Number One of Four", etc. The second deal was through another burger chain, now defunct, Burger Chef, and at the bottom of each, it said "A poster series from The Coca-Cola Company and Burger Chef Systems Inc." The third set was distributed in Japan only, and at the bottom of each of those, it said "A poster series from The Coca-Cola Company (Japan)". The fourth set was distributed in the U.S. by Coca-Cola, it said "An original poster series from The Coca-Cola Company".

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: GEORGE PASTELL HAPPY BIRTHDAY : TWO ROLES QUITE ODD AND WIN CINEFICCION THIS WEEK!

TODAY WE REMEMBER and mark the BIRTHDAY of the, really quite amazing actor, George Pastell! George was a Cypriot character actor in many many British films and television programs. But his real name was in fact, Nino Pastellides. Although Greek, he was often cast by Hammer Film Productions as Eastern characters such as Mehemet Bey in The Mummy (1959) with Peter Cushing AND Christopher Lee; also the High Priest of Kali in The Stranglers of Bombay (1960); and Hashmi Bey in The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964). He also appeared with Michael Gough in Konga in 1961. George made his film debut in Give Us This Day (1949), under his real name of Nino Pastellides, and went onto carve out a career as villains in film and television.

GEORGE'S exotic looks often saw him cast in spy movies of the 1960's such as From Russia with Love (1963); Licensed to Kill (1965); A Man Could Get Killed (1966); That Riviera Touch (1966); and Deadlier Than the Male (1967). He did very much LOOK the roles! As well as these film roles, he could also be seen as 'the villain' in numerous LEW GRADE television series of the sixties including Danger Man; The Avengers; the BBC Doctor Who; The Champions; The Saint; and Department S.

PASTELLLIDES was also most prolific, however, in his voice-over work. He worked replacing hundreds of other actors' voices, some very of them, very famous actors. Many films such as El Cid (1961) as "Fañez"; 'You Only Live Twice' (1967) he voiced over, Tiger Tanaka; and in 'Doctor Zhivago' (1965) he voiced the character of Rita Tushingham's boyfriend, which earned him the sobriquet the 'Paul Frees' of Britain.

GEORGE sadly passed on April 4th 1976, in Dade County, Florida, USA. It's pretty amazing how many roles, Pastell played through the years. But for many, his Hammer film roles, and the role of Mehemet Bey in The Mummy, is one of the most favorite. Happy Birthday, GEORGE. You are remembered and respected, very well!

YOUR  TUESDAY TOUGHIE FOR THIS WEEK! HAVE FUN!

CINEFICION is a magazine I have mentioned here before. The above GIF is permanently, featured in the side column of this website too. I came across this magazine and the extra publications, that have been edited by superb DARIO LAVIA, about a year and half ago. I have been impressed by them all. Since I started managing PCAS here and on FACEBOOK, we have been approached by many fanzines, magazines and comics for either rare photographs or contributions to those asking. I have sadly, turned them all down. The reason? Most fanzines today, are purely REPEATING what other zines have done, MANY TIMES before them. The prices of zines are not cheap today, and many have closed and slipped away. CINEFICCION gets my interest because LAVIA comes at it, with a passion! PLUS he likes VISUALS. He makes the room for many. Many of them are in colour too!

THAT THE PUBLICATIONS are printed and written in SPANISH doesn't put me off at all, even though I don't speak Spanish. For me, visually the publications, click ALL my boxes! I get fed up, with fanzines and books, REPRINTING old photos and images they have also posted before. Many of these editors DO OWN rare images, but choose that only a few or or NONE are printed and shared with their buyers. NOT DARIO! That clicks my box. So much so, that last year I announced that our ENTIRE rare audio and video PCAS archive will be GIVEN to DARIO and his publications . . . for free! Masses of interviews from STAR actors,  sadly no longer with us, actresses and directors will be given to Dario and the CINEFICCION publications, for their exclusive use. There will be many images and photographs too. I hope that this will help the content . .THIS WEEK I will be GIVING AWAY several FREE issues, so you can win em and see em, yourself! Keep a LOOK OUT!

IF YOU HAVE NEVER purchased any of the publications, here is a link to the CINEFICCION website. If you TOO don't speak Spanish... if visuals are your thing too, THIS will make you happy! Support these publications and purchase YOUR copies too! HERE is the CINEFICCION website: HERE!
