#WATCHPARTY 'DARK PLACES' 1974 CHRISTOPHER LEE JOAN COLLINS AND HERBERT LOM!

JUST POSTED AT FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE one of the last of our PCASUK #WATCHWITHCUSHING Facebook #WATCHPARTIES in our quest to entertain during the #LOCK-DOWN period of the last three months! 'DARK PLACES' is one of few lesser seen films of Christopher Lee. It's a ghost story, with a few twists and some nice little surprises. It's a film of time... when it was produced back in 1974, but a lot of fun.

ABOVE THIS WEEKS TUESDAY TOUGHY! Good luck with this one and feel free to pop along to the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE and post YOUR answer in the THREAD! MEANWHILE, below here is LAST WEEKS ANSWER!

ANSWER: DAVID KRESKIN an American Mentalist who was very popular on television in both the US and UK during the 1970's. In 1973 he broadcast a daytime TV series on ITV in the UK. Kreskin always claimed to be an 'entertainer', never a psychic, he operated using the power of suggestion, not paranormal or supernatural. In JULY 1973 Peter Cushing appeared as a guest on the daytime UK show and took part in a ten minute feature, where he was invited to write a NAME of his choice, on a piece of paper. Kreskin did not see the name, as it written and folded up. This paper was then set alight with a match, placed onto a china plate and the ashes from the paper were then rubbed lightly, onto the bare arm of Cushing, where the name HELEN then magically appeared! Helen was Cushing's late wife, who had died just two years previously. Kreskin at the beginning of the trick, did mention he had no prior knowledge of the name that Peter Cushing had chosen to write on the note paper. As with all magic tricks . . . the trick is in the preparation!

ABOVE: TELEVISION LISTING MAGAZINE TV TIMES with the listing of Cushing's appearance on the show. BELOW: Not AUSTIN POWERS but KRESKIN, during his tv show . . .

AT THE TIME when Cushing was still still in deep moaning for his late wife, I personally think, this was such an odd event and choice from Cushing. He never truly recovered for the twenty years odd years, he outlived Helen. Granted, he did a few years later also include a photograph of Helen in the Tyburn film, THE GHOUL'. But this, just seems weird and more than a little mawkish? Maybe it's just me, but I remember seeing this show as a teenager when it was broadcast, and even then, thought it odd. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. It's a tv appearance which many would not now remember and is hardly ever mentioned. I am sure there will be several comments on this at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE TODAY. PLEASE feel free to join in with your comments and thoughts too!

MILK SHERLOCK AND LOTS OF SCREAMING AND HONG KONG! IT HAS TO BE GIFS WEDNESDAY!

IF I HAD A DOLLAR BILL or  a pound coin for everytime that PETER CUSHING looked through a MAGNIFYING GLASS in a film or TV drama, I would be a wealthy man! This one is from the BBC SHERLOCK HOLMES series that Cushing starred in the late 1960's. I wonder if you could guess, which classic DOYLE SHERLOCK story this is? REQUESTED by ANNA MILES NY USA.

THE AMICUS FILMS, 'AND NOW, THE SCREAMING STARTS' to be quite frank, is one of my least favorite AMICUS / CUSHING films. To me, the script seems to wander, the horror ellements too, I find a little bad taste, and CUSHING sadly has little to do. If there is a moment, that does anything, it's that pretty dramatic scene with Peter and IAN OLGIVY in the cemetery, during a terrible storm. This was the only time AMICUS produced a GHOST story and also a period film. They certainly got the LOOK right, but the story, aint my kinda of thing. Here STEPHANIE (DRACULA AD 1972 ) BEACHAM as the newly married Catherine Fengriffen, looses her cool on the portrait of Henry Fengriffen played by HERBERT LOM. REQUESTED by AMANDA POOLE, Leeds, UK.

PART FIVE of our AMICUS FILMS OF PETER CUSHING has a great selection of rare stills from AND NOW THE SCREAMING STARTS : You will find it HERE!

SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN, WAS NOT AMICUS films, first venture into the world of SCI-FI CINEMA. Though this film, is never really sure, in WHICH genre it's sitting. I think that is one of the reasons why, many enjoy the film so much. It's reputation and following has really climbed in the last ten years, with a super dooper BLU RAY from TWLIGHT TIME back in 2013, giving it the treament and good extras. VINCENT PRICE and CHRISTOPHER LEE are great, Mr P having more screen time, and a wonderful exit! CUSHING'S role is brief as this film also stands as a very good example of how producer SUBOTSKY used his, 'stack those stars in the film and hire them for a limited time!' . .  it all paid off when their names were on the bills and the marquees!  REQUESTED by MIDGE ILLINOIS USA.

IF I AM LOOKING FOR A FUN PETER CUSHING FILM with a BIT OF BITE, on for a late night view, this is the one that nearly always hits the player! Personally, I think JOHN FORBES-ROBERTSON did a good job as DRACULA, considering what he was dealing with. LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES despite being made by HAMMER FILMS, has very little in common with other films from the company. The film was a joint two film venture with, Shaw Brothers of Hong Kong. Their Horror and Supernatural films were presented in quite a highly stylised fashion, quite unique to the cinema of the country and culture. Many criticise the appearance and make up of Forbes-Robertson's DRACULA, unware that the almost 'phantom-demon' look to his face, is very much in keeping with what most vamps looked like in Hong Kong Horror Cinema of the 60's and 70's. Same too for the crumbling effects of the vampires, when they were killed. It ALL was in the flavour, of ASIAN CINEMA. The second film which Shaw made with Hammer films, also starred Cushing, was called CALL HIM MR SHATTER with STUART WHITMAN, as the star. BOTH are pretty neat films, entertaining too. A great pity Hammer never went on to make the other films, they had planned with Shaw Brothers...BELOW a lovely UK MILK MARKETING BOARD film, pushing the use of MILK on the set of the film, in a style only the 1970's cinema adverts, could do! REQUESTED by PAUL BARTON SURREY UK.

WATCH TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED : PLUS HORROR GIFS WEDNESDAY!

TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED in 1983. ....it may not ring a bell for many here, as it was a UK Television show, but it was syndicated to the US and most of Europe. Cushing's role, was one of his last performances before the camera. There would only be three more roles for Cushing after this, in 'Helen Keller: The Miracle Continues', 'Masks of Death' as Sherlock Holmes and 'Biggles', his last film performance for cinema.

KARL VON BADEN is a role that Cushing could have played in his sleep just five years previous, that is not to say it's a weak performance, but the script gives him little to do, and it's Cushing who looks weak and frail at this point. It's a story that relies on flashbacks, and much of his screen time is played sitting down. He looks tired, but that helps to bring a poignancy to his role. Cushing shares most of his scenes with another television veteran, John Bailey. Anthony Higgins who plays Cassan in the story, would go on to play Sherlock Holmes in an updated Sherlock series and would also play Moriarty in the film 'Young Sherlock'. Vorpal Blade is a tale set in a sedate rose garden and a castle in Heidelberg... the episode was directed by John Jacobs who produced the other Anglia television series 'Orson Welles Great Mysteries'...in which Cushing also appeared, a wonderful episode entitled, 'La Grande Breteche' in 1973.

CHRISTMAS EVE :CHRISTOPHER LEE A GHOST STORY FOR CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS EVE IS HERE, at last! And maybe for some of you, the shopping, the cooking, the preparation is now over. I DO hope so! If not, put this little post in your bookmark, for later. Preferably a time, when it's quiet. Switch off the lights, settle in and prepare yourself, for that OTHER great Christmas tradition . ..  The Christmas Ghost Story. I've especially picked this one from the BBC television series, that Christopher Lee appeared in 2000. The episode I've selected is in my humble opinion, the best of the series, also forgive my indulgence, it's my favorite Ghost Story. Maybe because I first hear it, in another BBC televised drama of the story, starring ROBERT HARDY, way back in 1971, when I was but a terrified little chap, hiding behind my grandmother's sofa! Christopher Lee really does a fabulous reading, that I am sure you'll enjoy. You'll probably need to get that mulled wine on the boil, as this is a real Christmas Chiller! Merry Christmas! Enjoy!
