REMEMBERING: Anthony Nelson Keys, Born today November 13th 1911, sadly no longer with us. Worked as producer on many Hammer films and some of Peter Cushing's best work for the company. He started work at Hammer back in 1947, wrapping in 1969, with Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, for which he also received a writer credit. A much loved character on and off the set, with ready smile and a joke. See how many photographs you can find without Nelson Keys laughing or kidding with the photographer..!

THE HAUNTING OF HERSTMONCEAUX CASTLE AND REMEMBERING DIANA DORS!

THIS WEEKS CUSHING TUESDAY TOUGHY: IDENTIFY THE ACTOR and INVESTIGATING the similarities, should not be too difficult! THE ANSWER if  SOLVED will appear here on FRIDAY. IF it remains UNSOLVED, I will reveal the solution NEXT TUESDAY! GOOD LUCK! The photograph of Peter Cushing is from Hammer films, 'SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST' which stars Richard Greene and Peter Cushing. THURSDAY marks it's RELEASE on BLU RAY from TWILIGHT TIME on a REGION FREE DISC! MORE NEWS on THAT HERE tomorow!

THE ANSWER WE WERE looking for was HAUNTED: HERSTMONCEAUX CASTLE made in 1975. There were clues that WEREWOLF?: Cushing worked with Paul Annette, the DIRECTOR of the documentary, just two years before in Amicus films, 'The Beast Must Die' in 1973. Annette directed BOTH. 'The Beast Must Die' was about a WEREWOLF. A HAUNTING? Herstmonceaux Castle claims to be HAUNTED, and is the theme of the documentary. SUSSEX? Castle Herstmonceaux is based in SUSSEX. CASTLE? That's the theme and setting of the documentary. PETER CUSHING? Cushing provided the NARRATION for the entire documentary! The photograph of Peter wearing the bowler hat is taken from 'The Legend of the Werewolf', a Tyburn Film. It has no connection other than it also features a werewolf, like The Beast Must Die. This was a RED HERRING!

REMEMBERING: Diana Dors born today, October 23rd 1931. '"I’m the kind of girl that things naturally happen to. When they don’t, I give them a push"....Dors much loved and real national treasure for many years with a career as a model, actress, television personality and 'blonde bombshell'...and also a co star in TWO Peter Cushing films. 'From Beyond The Grave' for Amicus films and 'Nothing But The Night' also with Christopher Lee.

George was a quantity surveyor for Purley District Council, who bought the land this house sits on, and also designed and planned the building of it! The Cushing family moved in 1926, and Peter born in 1913, his brother David three years older, lived there for many years. The house has now been lovingly renovated, spruced up, to enhance it's Edwardian style by the charming Camlett family, who certainly appreciate the Cushing connection of the house! Only this July a BLUE PLAQUE was placed on the house, to celebrate its connection, to Peter Cushing.

PETER CUSHING: THE TUESDAY TOUGHY AND COCA COLA TARKIN!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY! IT'S TUESDAY, and as well as cool, we have TOUGH! The TUESDAY TOUGIE! You'll find this week's question, interesting. The fact in the answer, I don't think is THAT well known. Unless of course..YOU know it! BELOW you'll find the ANSWER for last week. Which, is a pretty cool one. NO ONE provided the correct answer for THAT ONE!  Send your answer to our usual
PCAS email  address : petercushingpcas@gmail.com

LAST WEEK'S TUESDAY TOUGHIE ANSWER
IS BELOW!

THE ANSWER WE WERE LOOKING FOR, WAS THE NAME REGINALD BECK! If that surname looks familiar to you, here is why! Reginald (Reggie) Beck was a British film editor with forty-nine credits from 1932 to 1985. He is noted primarily for films he made with Laurence Olivier in the 1940s and with Joseph Losey in the 1960s and 1970s. He was the brother of Violet Helen Beck Cushing, wife of . . . Peter Cushing. Beck worked closely with Olivier on HAMLET in which Peter played OSRIC. It was Cushing's first major screen role in 1948.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY! CUSHING'S TARKIN and DARTH VADER, Coca Cola Posters!  In 1977, George Lucas recognized the value of merchandising his new movie, and he approached many companies about doing special advertising tie-in posters. He made four deals for the exact same posters with Coca-Cola! There was a set of 4 posters and one of the four deals was distributed through Burger Kings, and at the bottom of each, it said "A poster series from The Coca-Cola Company and Burger King", and each had "Number One of Four", etc. The second deal was through another burger chain, now defunct, Burger Chef, and at the bottom of each, it said "A poster series from The Coca-Cola Company and Burger Chef Systems Inc." The third set was distributed in Japan only, and at the bottom of each of those, it said "A poster series from The Coca-Cola Company (Japan)". The fourth set was distributed in the U.S. by Coca-Cola, it said "An original poster series from The Coca-Cola Company".

TOO COOL TUESDAY TOUGHY QUESTION AND LAST WEEKS ANSWER

SINCE PETER CUSHING'S PASSING IN 1994, some interesting details about his career and life have surfaced, for sure. I suspect many in the industry knew about this, and this little fact has been several  published, but I suspect that this might get many you thinking. IF you do think you know the answer and want to added to the banner of 'those who cracked it' next week. Drop me a line : petercushingpcas@gmail.com . . . ANSWER NEXT WEEK. LAST WEEKS TOUGHY ANSWER BELOW . . .

THE ANSWER TO LAST WEEK'S TUESDAY TOUGHY!
THIS CORRECT ANSWER COMES FROM MARCIA, who correctly identified the THREE following CUSHING SHERLOCK productions. But THERE IS we find, ANOTHER one TOO! MARCIA'S answers are:

ANSWERS:
1) The Abbot's Cry, the follow-up to Masks of Death.
2) Peter was offered a part in Jeremy Brett's 'The Last Vampyre' as the clergyman Merrydew
3) Not positive about this one, but producer Kevin Francis wanted to remake 'Hound of the Baskervilles' with the Hound animated by Ray Harryhausen, with Peter as Sherlock.

THE ADDITIONAL entry is what was to have been a one man show with Cushing as Sherlock. Peter passed on the opportunity and another actor filled the role.

Worth noting is Marcia's kind message about the website too! "Thanks for the notice on the Zoo Gang bluray and the great Doctor Who article. As neat as Moffat's including Peter's Doctor is, I still think of Peter's Doctor as an actual part of the canon, not just as an actor playing a role. I love his two films as the Doctor. And finally, I love The Last Meeting clips!! I watch them repeatedly and enjoy every minute. Look forward to this page everyday!"
Best wishes!
Marcia Loisel
