THERE ARE MAGAZINES that you purchase for features, some for certain
writers and maybe some for the great editorial and pics! #CINEFICCION does all those things for it's readers and subscribers 🙂
Many years ago, I remember collecting stickers, transfers and
collectors cards, it was a lot of fun. I was sad when it ...vanished.
Issue 9 of CINEFICCION, as an amusing tribute to such good days, has a
fold-out section, with such stickers! It's a nice touch.
AS WELL AS THAT, there is a whole
section on Hammer actresses, with exclusive interviews, and a section on
Josh Kennedy's 'House of the Gorgon' ..and much much more besides.
There are even FIVE different covers, dedicated to the Hammer actresses
featured with. Nope it's not written in English. but the whole visual
communication of Cineficcion is quite smart and very universal. Well
done, Dario and all contributors, another superb issue 😉 Here is just a snip of some of the content... and those stickers :);) - Marcus

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDY!🙂
Today marks a special day for actress, Judy Matheson! Judy appeared in
the Peter Cushing 1971 film, 'Twins of Evil'... playing one of the
village unfortunates, who were burnt at the stake!
JUDY HAS HAD QUITE a full career over the years appearing in Crucible of
Terror and also Hammer films, Lust for a Vampire too. Her television
career has spend across tv favorites such as ITV's Coronation Street,
the BBC sci series Blake's 7, Z Cars ( lead female role,
twice), The Professionals, The Adventurer, The Sweeney, Harriet's Back
in Town, Citizen Smith, Dead of Night, and for several months she starred
in Crossroads, playing Sandy's girlfriend and Hugh Mortimer's
secretary, Vicky Lambert! She played the poet Shelley's lover, Jane
Williams, opposite Robert Powell in the BBC's film of the life of
Shelley directed by Alan Bridges.
HER THEATRICAL WORK includes starring opposite Richard O'Sullivan in a
British tour of the comedy Boeing-Boeing with Yootha Joyce & Sally
Thomsett, Ray Cooney's Chase Me Comrade, Stage Struck by Simon Gray,
Hugh & Margaret Williams’ The Flip Side, Funny Peculiar by Mike
Scott and Alan Ayckbourn's Bedroom Farce. Currently she does occasional
voice-over and narration work, and sometimes attends film conventions
and Hammer Film events, as a guest. I have had the opportunity, as have
many, to quickly chat with Judy here on facebook several times, and I
can honestly say she is always very friendly and happy to chat! A lovely
lady 🙂 Please help us celebrate Judy's birthday today and wish her a VERY Happy Birthday 🙂 We hope you are enjoying your day, Judy?
#CUSHINGFEMMEFATALES FRIDAY! Here is
PETER CUSHING on THIS IS YOUR LIFE from 1990. And VERY happy and humble he LOOKS too! It's interesting how many women there are and the women, connected to Cushing who actually
appear on the show. Even though some of Cushing's closest actress
friends were then living away from the UK, where the show was recorded,
they are absent from the recording . . Long time friend and college
INGRID PITT is missing and siting drinking coffee, just outside London! A show like this, that ploughs into the public
and private life of the subject on display, can be a sensitive and quite
political exercise. Although, Cushing reacts as though it's all a BIG
surprise, he did know the show was happening. He wasn't over the moon
about appearing, so the handling of guests, was the responsibility of a
trusted and close 'associate'. We can presume, those choices were behind
the participating guests...and why Christopher Lee is NOT in the
studio.
THIS CUSHING FEMME FATALE FEATURE is PART ONE of a TWO PART feature, a little peep at the actresses he also knew Peter in their private lives too! MORE to come in Part TWO next FRIDAY! ENJOY!!
THIS upload has been added to the NEW PCAS YOUTUBE CHANNEL library and taken from the old PCAS YOUTUBE CHANNEL, where it was shared five years ago . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e96Mf...
REMEMBERING: A wonderful actor and special guy, RALPH BATES. Sadly, no longer with us, and died today in 1991. A talented actor and a truly gentle and kind man.
THE GREAT, GREAT nephew of the renowned French scientist Louis Pasteur
developed into a strangely handsome dark haired, pale complexioned
English actor. Ralph Bates was born in 1940 in Bristol, England and
attended the University of Dublin and studied at the Yale Drama School.
His dramatic talents first came to audiences attention playing the evil
Emperor Caligula in the well received BBC TV series The Caesars
(1968). However, the Hammer studios resurrection of the horror genre
was then in full stride, and Bates was soon engulfed in the swirling
cloak of Hammer's success as he appeared in several horror films in
quick succession.
FIRSTLY IN A SUPPORT role as demonic Lord Courtley in Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), followed as the lead character Baron Frankenstein in The Horror of Frankenstein (1970), then as Giles Barton in the sexy Lust for a Vampire (1971) and as the well meaning Dr. Jekyll in an unusual spin on the Robert Louis Stevenson story in Dr Jekyll & Sister Hyde
(1971) and 'Fear in the Night' with Peter Cushing in 1972. Bates brought a new zest to Hammer and with his stylish
dialogue delivery and film acting methods, he quickly won himself quite a
few fans in both critics and regular film goers!
UNFORTUNATELY, by the early 1970s there had been a downturn in Hammer studios fortunes,
and Bates then found himself turning to more traditional character work
in other production houses and he appeared in several films before
snaring other superb villainous role as George Warleggan in the 18th
century period piece Poldark (1975).
AFTER POLDARK, Bates himself kept busy in a few forgettable UK made TV shows
and television film roles which did not really do justice to his
remarkable talents. In the late 1980s his health rapidly deteriorated,
and he sadly passed away from cancer aged only 51 on 27th March 1991.

THERE ARE TWO HAMMER FILM STARS who worked with PETER CUSHING and who are sharing
a birthday TODAY! John Van Eyssen who sadly passed BUT still very much with us is SHE
herself...URSULA ANDRESS. 'SHE' (1965) was the first film from Hammer to
be built around a female star. Tall and statuesque, Ursula Andress was a
perfect choice to play Ayesha, though in retrospect she claims to have
disliked the role.
ANDRESS HAS BEEN criticized by reviewers for her icy
demeanor and aloof detachment, but these characteristics proved
beneficial for playing the steely-eyed Ayesha. Costumed in a selection
of warm-colored, Grecian-styled gowns and gold jewelry, she glows
onscreen, partly due to the flattering, high-key lighting of
cinematographer Harry Waxman.
BORN IN SWITZERLAND to German parents, the exotic-looking beauty spoke with
an accent, which Hammer's producers found too distracting. Andress's
entire role was then re-voiced and dubbed over by an actress named
Monica Van Der Syl, who mimicked a slight Swiss accent so audiences did
not suspect the truth. John Richardson's lines were also dubbed in
post-production by the actor himself, perhaps to give his line readings
an added emphasis, since he tended to be overshadowed by Cushing and
Lee. Lee and Cushing appeared to enjoy working with Andress, and appearing in the film. Lee died with a nice touch and Cushing got to DANCE!
TODAY WE REMEMBER Hammer's first vampire hunter John Van Eyssen.Best known
for starring in Hammer's DRACULA /Horror Of Dracula as Jonathan Harker. Eyssen also starred in Hammer's QUATERMASS 2 and a early Terrence Fisher Hammer film
called The Four Sided Triangle in 1953. Van Eyssen did a great job of playing Harker, and went on to appear in only nine other feature films, then leave
his acting career in 1961 and become the head of the Grade Organisation
literary agency. He then left the business in 65 to take up a position
in the UK division of Columbia Pictures, eventually becoming Managing
Director in July 1969. Finally in 1970, he was promoted to Worldwide
Head of Production (ex-USA) and moved to New York.
#MOMENTOFTERRORMONDAY! IS ALWAYS a pleasure to post! We get to pick and edit, what is another classic moment from a Cushing film, and this one, might not be so well known as the Amicus and Hammer films shocking scenes, but it does do VERY well! LEGEND of the WEREWOLF has been
covered many time at our website, what was once our facebook page,
before THEY turned into a TERROR...and again on our PCAS You Tube
Channel today. On the theme of WEREWOLVES, it ALSO TIES IN well with our SPEEDY COMPETITION today too!
OVER THE YEARS, it has been gaining a lot of notice, more than
when it was made in 1975. Some of it may have to do with the fact that
this and THE GHOUL Cushing films from TYBURN FILMS ..still has not had a
legit release of dvd or Blu Ray. MANY MANY illegal and poor releases,
but we still await the arrival. Cushng is smashing, Rintoul as our
Werewolf is top dog and Ron Moody and Roy Castle make the film fun.
Until that release arrives, here is another clip, sharpened for the
TERROR factor!
