DRACULAS FULL 1958 DEATH : MICHAEL'S BIRTHDAY : TUESDAY TOUGHY AND MORE

MICHAEL REDGRAVE was of the generation of English actors that gave the world the legendary John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson and Laurence Olivier, Britain three fabled "Theatrical Knights" back in the days when a knighthood for thespian was far more rare than it is today. . .  Sir Michael Redgrave. A superb actor, Redgrave himself was a charter member of the post-Great War English acting pantheon and was the sire of an acting dynasty. According to his daughter, Vanessa, and son Corin, Sir Michael's favourite film roles were in The Browning Version (1951), The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962) and The Dam Busters (1955).  Peter Cushing appeared in a 1955 stage production of The Browning Version as Andrew Crocker-Harris in London, recorded and transmitted by BBC TV.    Cushing's role as barrister, Jeremy Clayton is  neat role. Cushing plays it with an impatient sharpness , that makes you feel all the more sorry for Redgrave's 'David Graham'. Just a support role, but ine that added to Cushing's already sizeable characters he had played in theatre, radio and massiviely on television.  Redgrave's opinion about working in film, when he had made such a career of the theatre, was pretty much like Peter Cushing also felt . .'I didn't think I'd be any good in films... I couldn't imagine myself on the screen. Besides, there were such exciting things to do in the theatre, so much to learn!'. Michael Redgrave passed away only one day after his 77th birthday.

DIRECTED BY JOSEPH LOSEY, and starring Michael Redgrave as a confused alcoholic father, racing against the clock, trying to save his son who is sentenced to death...Redgrave turns in a wonderful performance in TIME WITHOUT PITY. It's a British film noir thriller, and has a very watchable cast...of which Cushing is one of the support players. Ann Todd and Leo McKern are at the top of their game, Freddie Francis is director of photography... in only the second film of his career, Lois 'Miss Moneypenny' Maxwell and Joan Plowright also make an appearance. This is a sneak peep a taster....see what you think?

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: HOW COOL IS THAT??

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY! ANOTHER PCAS FB MILESTONE 🙂 . . .. Less than a month ago, we were marking our last #facebook #milestone..now here we are, and you've done it again!

AS EVER, I want to thank you for making your #PeterCushing #facebook page such a success. It does prove that every comment, like and share, DOES make all difference. It's very good to hear and see Peter Cushing mentioned almost every day in mainstream media, on tv, print media and the net. Let's all continue to do our bit, and keep him there 😉 Someone asked me on the weekend, do you ever run dry on things to post, to write? When I first thought about the possibility of bringing #PCAS to Facebook and a website domain back in 2010, it did cross my mind, that 'running dry' maybe a possibility . . . well, I am still waiting... 🙂 Again, MANY thanks. Onwards . . .. ! - Marcus

WE ARE ALWAYS #HAPPY to see you and hear from you, you are ALWAYS #WELCOME . ..  wherever you are!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: DRACULA MINI SERIES FANCY DRESS AND TWO GREAT DIGITS!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: I HAVE NEVER seen photographs of Peter Cushing judging a beauty competition, but he must have judged a few #FANCYDRESS comps in his time. This is a one that took place during the opening of #THREBRIDESOFDRACULA back in 1960. It's strange how the act of offering someone a cigarette just looks so alien these days....!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY?: So, the guys behind the successful BBC Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock series, are planning a whole series of gothic horrors, including DRACULA... It will be made by the BBC and syndicated to the US and others for sure. If you liked their spin on Sherlock...will you watch this? Good idea?

THE PRESS RELEASE . .
THE SHERLOCK TEAM are reuniting on a new version of the classic horror story Dracula, RadioTimes can confirm. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are due to begin work on a series of BBC specials based on the classic 1897 novel by Bram Stoker in which the bloodthirsty count moves from Transylvania to England. The Corporation is finalising talks with the pair and is poised to green-light the project which is likely to air in 2019. The new Dracula series has not yet been written and Gatiss and Moffat will begin working on the scripts once they have both completed their own solo projects – details of which have not been confirmed.“It’s early days and the BBC has not seen a script yet but they are close to signing a deal for a series of 90-minute films of Dracula,” said a senior production source.“It’s not yet been decided if it will be historical or modern day or if there will be a US co-producer but the BBC are keen on this and it will happen.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE decided is how many episodes – whether there are three or five or six or whatever but they will definitely be 90-minute films. "Production is at least a year away so it will probably be on screen in 2019 at the earliest.” Gatiss has often spoken of his fondness for the Dracula story – particularly the 1958 film starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing – and even played the title role himself in a recent audio drama, but it currently seems unlikely that he will take on the part of the Count in the new version, according to sources. “Casting is a long way off but the feeling is he probably won’t – but you never know,” said a BBC source.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: NO NEED TO CAPTION  THIS ONE THEN?

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: SHARPS AND POINTS AND SHERLOCK!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing we know had a special friendship. There is much evidence of Lee's ability to have made Cushing crumple with with roars of laughter, just with the well timed twitch of his eyebrow.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: REQUESTED AND REPOSTED: Peter Cushing candidly snapped during his 80th Birthday celebrations at the home of Joyce and Bernard Broughton.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: THE FAMILY CUSHING ON A HOLIDAY IN BOGNOR!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: HERE IS A VERY RARE PIC of the Cushing Family on hoilday, in BOGNOR, of all places! From the left: GEORGE Cushing, Peter Father, then NELLIE Peter's Mother. Next  ARTHUR Peter's Uncle, and Nellie's sister in law, WYN . An unnamed chap on the far right. At the front Peter's brother, DAVID on the left and a young smiling PETER on the right! The reverse side of this pic comes from a time when, a jobbing photographer would take your photograph at a sea-side resort, and process it on photographic paper that was also a postcard....so when you picked up your pic, you could write on the reverse side and post it off to your relatives and friends!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY : PETER CUSHING AND PATRICK TROUGHTON 'THE BLACK KNIGHT' (1946)

#‎TOOCOOLTUESDAY‬: The Black Knight (1954)...Yes, it is hokey, Yes, Ladd is short, And, yes to a million one other reasons many have expressed that this film is a 'sword and sandal' medieval mess up...BUT Peter Cushing, as ever gives a top notch performance. Not only does he play the role very well indeed, he looks very COOL.... In our short clip here, Cushing appears with Patrick Troughton  who is on fine form.  The clip also gives to actors known for their connection with  Dr / Doctor  Who!

MANY ON SEEING  publicity stills from the film, find it hard to believe it's our man playing Sir Palamides. Also I can always find time to watch Andre Morell, Harry Andrews and Patrick Troughton. Worth a watch for those four reasons alone!
