#MOMENTSOFTERRORMONDAY! SHOCK WAVES : FRIGHTENED CHASED AND A SCAR!!

#MOMENTSOFTERRORMONDAY! OUR usual MONDAY POST, but this week chosen one of the more unusual films that PETER CUSHING starred in during his long career, SHOCK WAVES. Everything about this low budget film is divided within the FAN community. It's a film that people either LOVE passionately, or simply HATE. In someways, you can understand why. It's still a mystery why CUSHING committed to a film, that on a brief paper synopsis, SHOULD have gained the same reaction he and his agent gave to John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN a few years later. BUT for no more really than his travel fair, bed and breakfast, CUSHING gained very little, at the time.

ABOVE : PETER CUSHING reflected in the MAKE UP mirror, having his facial scar
applied to his look of SCAR in 'SHOCK WAVES' (1975)

LATER AFTER HE RETIRED, CUSHING explained he committed to the film, as he wanted to help, what appeared to be a team of dedicated amateur film makers. Considering CUSHING was a man who had always pushed AGAINST any proposed film work, that took him OUT of the country...MIAMI was a long way to go, when he was no longer a young man, and his health wasn't the best. BUT HE did it. And for those who LOVE this film, that is not their gain, but in later years, just like other characters like Tarkin, Dr Who and Sherlock Holmes...it helped bring him ANOTHER following.

SHOCK WAVES was shot on 16mm, but later given the full treatment by BLUE UNDERGROUND who remastered the master print, cleared the sound, and presented the quite amazing BLU RAY of the film, to a HUGE SUCCESS. BLUE UNDERGROUND did even more with another, of the radar PETER CUSHING film called CORRUPTION. Remastered, and presented with a HUGE extra features support, BOTH films, are some of the best jobs ever made on a lesser known PETER CUSHING film . .

LOST IN THE FOG! MOMENT OF TERROR MONDAY : PETER CUSHING

#MOMENTOFTERROR MONDAY! ONE OUR MOST POPULAR uploads on our PCAS YOU TUBE CHANNEL is any uploads from the Peter Cushing Tyburn film 'THE GHOUL' considering how unpopular the film appears to have been for so many years, I find it typical of how FACEBOOK works and well this website and YOUTUBE works. So often, over the many years of managing the PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE, an often vague and really quite unsupported opinion was posted by a member of the public AGAINST a certain Hammer film or indeed CUSHING film. Within a few hours, that opinion would influence so many other posts and comments, that if challenged would go very quiet. Happily, the once negative Facebook tide about this film slowly started to change direction too in the last two years, before we parted ways with Facebook last month.

PERSONALLY, I'VE FOUND if you look down the 92 films in Peter Cushing's filmography, and look for roles the like of Dr Lawrence in THE GHOUL you won't find many. . . Cushing played many evil characters, whose reputation was either formed by other appearances in past productions like Frankenstein. The likes of roles like Sir John Rowan in 'Corruption' and Dr Nararoff in 'The Gorgon' too . . were motivated by the progress of medicine. The Ghoul's Dr Lawrence is different. In this scene, where we first meet Lawrence, we see a man who is cautious, with good reason, and helpful . . with intentions. What makes his performance so interesting and entertaining also is, for the first time, Cushing also brought in emotional factors from his own personal life. It presents us with a much more credible character. Crushed by grief and driven by a most horrendous secret.

WHAT HELPS here too is, every cast member is very good too. John Hurt's Tom Rawling's is every females nightmare. Creepy, lusty and dangerous. The despite Rawling's totally unattractive and frightening drive, the fatal physical horror and terror will be cranked up and is really yet to come. Here in this five minute clip . . we see the traps set, the lies shared and what appears to be the charity of a new friend... become many moments of terror . . .

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY: TERRIFYING VAMPIRES, SINISTER MR SMITH AND CREEPY OL DONALD

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY: Timmy Jenkins requested this superb gif of Andre Melly as Gina in Hammer films, THE BRIDES OF DRACULA (1960) Melly tops many Favorite Hammer Vampire lists. I have to admit, for a film made 56 years ago, it's a Peter Cushing film, that STILL gives chills . . .

You have a favorite shot, sequence, moment from a Peter Cushing film? Message us on our PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE  or email us at petercushingappreciationsociety@gmail.com and gives us the details, and we'll post it here and our facebook page!

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY : REQUESTED BY MORGAN PEMBERRY:  BEWARE the smartly dressed gentlemen, with the gold ring and solemn presence. Peter Cushing as the mysterious Mr Smith in Amicus films, ASYLUM . Maybe he isn't all he seems to be. All he wants is a new suit...but NOT for himself.....!

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY: Tyler Henson thought the best story in the Amicus film, FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE  was without doubt story two, 'An Act of Kindness' with Donald and Angela Pleasence, and requested this amusing entrance of their characters, from the film. Creepy . . .

PLEASE KEEP THOSE REQUESTS COMING: remember the clips that make the BEST gifs are ones without dialogue or music, all gifs are silent!

COME LOOK AND BE TEASED : THE PROFESSOR : A HOMAGE TO PETER CUSHING

ONCE IN A WHILE someone comes up with a very good concept in the comic world. And 'THE PROFESSOR' falls very snugly into that category. Just a few days ago, I was contacted by an associate who thought 'THE PROFESSOR' would be of interest to us all. I must be honest, during the course of a few months, it is not unusual for us to receive several emails or posts about 'Cushing-connected or themed' projects. But, from the go this one got my interest.

I HAVE TO BE HONEST and admit, I am not a collector of comics and I can't remember the last time, I actual read a comic of any kind!  But this is one I really want to read. I have included several of the 'TEASERS' here for your enjoyment.... and they DO manage to perform their function very well..Just a glance at any one, will I am sure, get you to view the next. The question hangs over each one, 'Wow, what does that mean? OR 'What happened next?'

NOW OF COURSE we are primed to a certain extent here, we are lovers of Cushing's work and the roles he played, so the artwork panels and teasers, are very more-ish and have our interest. BUT look at that art work, interesting isn't it? And again, each image leaves us with a ....what does all this mean? We are not being let in on the secret, WE have to wait too......!

'THE PROFESSOR' is the beautiful creation of Italian writer, ANDREA CORBETTA and all the people you see below... Corbetta calls it 'An homage to Peter Cushing'. The first issue of 'THE PROFESSOR' arrives in SEPTEMBER 2016. So, not that long to wait. And rest assured, we WILL be waiting !
