MORE THAN EYE CANDY : A FIGHTER ON AND OFF SCREEN : JULIE EGE REMEMBERED

TODAY WE REMEMBER JULIE EGE, a model and actress, she starred in the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1968) also in the Creatures The World Forgot (1971) for Hammer….she co-starred with Peter Cushing in Hammer's 'Legend Of The Seven Golden Vampires' (1974). Julie was much MORE than eye candy and thankfully, after her acting career moved on to a whole new life. Here is a very good feature on Julie, that gives the bigger picture and shows how she excelled right until her sad end . .

'For Ege, graduating as a nurse fulfilled a childhood dream, but  like others on this website, it also saved her life. While studying for her final exams, Ege discovered the early signs of breast cancer and believed that it was her new found knowledge that helped her detect the disease. Undeterred by the extensive medical treatment, including a mastectomy, she went on to work as a nurse for 22 years, facing the disease head on, including subsequent diagnoses of ovarian and lung cancer. She wrote her autobiography Naked, and continued to attend premieres and events in Oslo while at the Buskerud Hospital in Drammen. “She was a nurse and loved the job,” said her daughter Joanna to The Express newspaper. “You would never have known she had this rich, glamorous past if you’d met her. You would have just been struck by her energy, her smile and her determination to help people."  JUST CLICK HERE!

THE BRIDES OF DRACULA PREMIER : GOLDEN VAMP GOOF AND BEAST MUST DIE!

#GETHECUSHIONSUNDAY! Peter Cushing and Yvonne Monlaur rolled up at the West End Rank Cinema, London for the premier night of #hammerfilms 'The Brides of Dracula' on July 7th 1960 . . .looks like Yvonne had wondered off for a popcorn or hotdog, leaving Peter at the mercy of these two ladies from the Rank Organisation, in fancy dress..at least I HOPE they are in fancy dress....

PETER CUSHING AND YVONNE MONLAUR together at the #bridesofdracula premier night . . .with the Vampire Girls just...off..camera...

TWO GREAT PUBLICITY shots of Peter Cushing from Hammer films, 'THE BRIDES OF DRACULA' (1960) One in character as #VANHELSING and the other, as himself!

WE HAVE compiled the SIX photographs that were taken exclusively on set of #HAMMERFILMS 'The Brides of Dracula' for the PICTURE SHOW magazine feature, and reassembled them, in this banner, to give some idea of how, they could have looked . .

#GETTHECUSHIONSUNDAY! CALLUM McKELVIE'S feature this week is on the Amicus Cushing 'WHO-DONE-IT'.... 'The Beast Must Die'! Link below... Many still talk about the WEREWOLF BREAK, an ingenious little gimmick, which gave you a minute to guess the TRUE identity of the werewolf in the cast. Even though I have watched this movie about half a dozen times...I STILL can't ever remember when watching, WHO it turns out to be. DON'T REVEAL PLEASE! Cast your mind back, to when you first saw the film...HONESTLY...DID you SUCCESSFULLY GUESS who the werewolf was??? Here's the link to great memories, photographs and stuff on this most unusual of Amicus Horror films . .

WATCH 'THE LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES' AND #GIFS #GIFS #GIFS

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: BITE! Carmilla (Ingrid Pitt) biting Mademoiselle Perrodot (Kate O'Mara) as Emma Morton (Madeline Smith) watches on in horror from Hammer's 'The Vampire Lovers' (1970), the first film in their 'The Karnstein Trilogy'

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: #FLESHANDTHEFIENDS The Moment where after Hare (Donald Pleasance) agrees to turn King's Evidence against his former partner he gets cornered, by the locals and they burn out his eyes. Peter Cushing gives one of his best performances in this film & Donald Pleasence as William Hare. George Rose as William Burke are outstanding. How do you feel this film compares to other versions of the story of Dr Knox and Burke and Hare?

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: Ready for action! Despite its many faults, I have always found Hammer's 'The Legend Of Seven Golden Vampires' is full of great moments such as this one, with Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) and his group watching and waiting ready to battle with Golden Vampires and their undead!
Do you have a favourite moment or shot from the film?

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: INCENSE CLIPS A GOLDEN BIRTHDAY AND HENRY ON CUSHING INTERVIEW

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY : FROM THE 92 feature films that Peter Cushing appeared in during his long career in television, theatre and cinema, there only about five titles, whatever your person taste, that could be deemed as 'almost unwatchable'. Sometimes it's because of bad production values, (Hitler's Son) technical ineptness (The Devils Men) of the director and his team (Tender Dracula) Sometimes the fault lies with botched scripting or editing (Touch of the Sun) where the film was fiddled with so badly, what remains of the story is a mess...and here we place Incense For The Damned 1970.

I THINK I CAN CONFIDENTLY  say, there aren't any films, that I know of, that suffer because of Peter Cushing's contribution, it's often stated that many productions were saved, through Cushing's performance! 'Incense for the Damned' has been distributed under three titles over the years, Bloodsuckers, Incense for the Damned and Doctors Wear Scarlet, the title of the novel by author Simon Raven, that this film is 'loosely' based on.

THANKFULLY, CUSHING has but a guest appearance. His shooting was extended after the wrap, to try and bring a satisfying ending to the story...you'll notice his hairpiece has vanished in the addition footage in the films closing moments, presumably it had been sent back to the hire company. Director Robert Hartford-Davis, disowned the film, and had his name taken off the credits. The film was credited to Michael Burrowes... another name use by Davis. As for plot, it is very hard to keep track, and some long additional scenes of 'orgies' are played by a completely different group of actors that were added to a 'continental' version of the film.Although completed in 1969, Bloodsuckers did not get a general cinema release until 1971. Filming took place April-May 1969. Shooting took place in part in Greece and Cyprus.

SO, TO SAVE YOU THE TROUBLE of trawling through the 90 minutes of dross, are all of Peter Cushing's scenes from the film....don't worry that because the scenes are presented in isolation here, they will make little sense.... even when presented in the feature, they contribute little to the chaos . . . .

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: David Chiang Da-wei was born on the 29th June 1947 in Shanghai, (Republic of China) Chiang is a very famous actor and director, producer in Hong Kong. Chiang was very much a martial arts superstar in the 1970s, working under the Shaw Brothers Studio. He has appeared in over 130 films and over 30 television series.

DAVID CHIANG IN ACTION IN
LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES

IN 1974, Chiang starred along side Peter Cushing in Hammer films first of two co-partner feature films with Hong Kong based studio, Shaw Brothers. 'The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires' Peter for the last time resurrected his character of Van Helsing, and together with Chiang, Julie Ege and Robin Stewart, took on an oriental Dracula played by actor John Forbes Robertson and a hoard of Kung Fu zombie vampires! Join us today in wishing DAVID CHIANG a VERY Happy Birthday!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: NOT THAT LONG AGO in on a planet, not that far away, actor GUY HENRY took on a role that many would have thought impossible, the playing of Peter Cushing's GRAND MOFF TARKIN from Star Wars in 'Rogue One'... but what does Henry think of Cushing, and how did he prepare... here Henry tells all!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY : HAMMER FILMS JULIE EGE SINGS TOUCH ME / STOP IT I LIKE IT AND THEN STOPS!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY Over at our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE we posed the question, 'Can you name the Cushing / Hammer films co-star who had a fleeting recording career?' Who would have thought that the answer was glamorous actress and co star of Hammer films, 'Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires', JULIE EGE was the answer we were looking for?

JULIE EGE'S RECORDING CARRER started in 1971, with the release of the single, Love written by John Lennon, with a 'b-side' of 'In One Of Your Weaker Moments' (CBS 5431) It is believed the single came with this  naked 'talent shot' below.

NOT ANOTHER NOTE was heard from Ege until 1977, when she released, Touch Me / Stop It I Like It (Starbox SX 1158)... certainly not the kinda happy sing-a-long ditty, you would want to plop onto the turn table, at your grandma's 80th birthday party, family get together! Ege was approached by a recording company with a contract to record some further songs, and release a whole album! But, wisely Ege realised she probably was not the best of singers (!) and her short singing career ended there.
