PETER CUSHING ON HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY!

WE ARE SO LUCKY that Peter Cushing has left us such a large and varied body of work, from his appearances on TV, his writing and of course his film work. And if that wasn't enough, the spirit of the man still echos in everything we do here. When alive, Peter Cushing was so loved and respected. His acts of kindness are still remembered by many who met, worked and knew him. They continue to comment, write and share their stories here at our internet platforms. And editing our content here, is a real joy, when it's always received in the spirit of a man who made so many people happy, and left such an impression on everyone he met.

THE CGI TARKIN that appeared in 'ROGUE ONE : A Star Wars Story' created so much interest in Peter's performance as Grand Moff Tarkin in 'Star Wars: A New Hope' and his many other roles on the small and big screen. Over the weeks, huge amount of column inches written about those Tarkin scenes, which helped push Peter Cushing back into the public arena...not that he ever went away! The fact that the name PETER CUSHING, was trending for several days at the beginning of the year, did his career and our society, no harm at all! But the fact remains, with or without high profile exposure,on a day to day basis, it's no hardship, promoting and remembering a gentleman, who is still so dearly loved..who always gets a positive reaction. The fact that his name always gets a smile when mentioned is part of legacy. So, lets blow out the candles, raise a glass, celebrate and remember the smiles AND the frights!..... ANOTHER MILESTONE TODAY! What perfect timing, but you've done it again! On the anniversary of Peter Cushing Birthday, we have hit over THIRTY THOUSAND FOLLOWERS to our Peter Cushing Appreciation Society UK Facebook Fan Page! 

FOR SOME THIS may sound like a corny sentiment, but it's TRUE... this new total is all down to YOU! And the collective YOU is everyone who clicks on our page DAILY, to  our friends out there who send us photographs, cuttings, heads up on screenings, television schedules, conventions, signing events, and dvd and Blu Ray releases. I have to include the guys at Warner Brothers, Twilight Time, Blue Underground and Final Cut, for their continued support and sponsorship of our prize competitions. To Mr Donald Fearney for copies of his terrific Amicus Films Vault of Horror documentary too! I have to thank Nick Digilio and his team at WGN Radio for supporting us and inviting me onto the show. Every interview is a blast, and meeting such a mega Peter Cushing fan provides a lot of fun on the air! It's great that in our 60th year Peter Cushing's is still as popular as ever! Many thanks to everyone who supports the page and this website . . .  only through you are we able to keep the memory of Peter Cushing, his work and life a live!

A MILLION THANK YOUS!!!! Well this was a pretty amazing thing to wake up to this morning!! Our total of followers / likes for this page is an amazing 26,000.. actually it has now exceeded that total.. between seeing the figure and making this banner, it has tripped into almost 26,200, which is quite something!

I SAY THIS EVERYTIME, we reach another landmark total, but it's very true. I think Mr C, would have been very pleased indeed. Your continuing support and interest for this page, is very much appreciated. Making the posts and the work that goes into that, is always a real pleasure, and I get a big kick when reading your comments and interactions on the threads. It seems this Halloween, Peter Cushing is everywhere! Websites, blogs, newspapers, on tv... the interest in Peter has certainly increased in the last six months, and that is a wonderful thing to see.

IN OUR SIXTH YEAR that interest is bigger than ever., and it's in some part part, because of YOU. Your sharing our posts, makes the BIG difference, it brings people here, which prompts more interest, which makes the totals rise, that puts Peter Cushing, where he belongs, right out there. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HELP US CELEBRATE AND REMEMBER PETER CUSHING

Peter Wilton Cushing was born on the morning of MONDAY 26th May 1913, at 'Ormandy', Godstone Road, Kenley, Surrey, UK...to father George Edward Cushing and mother, Nellie Maria Cushing. Peter's father was a quantity surveyor and Nellie was the daughter of a carpet merchant.

Little Peter had an elder brother, David, three years his senior. It appears that mother Nellie had her heart set on having a girl. 'Wanting 'one of each' she had mitigated any disappointment in my arrival by dressing me in girls frocks!', Cushing recalled..'allowing my hair to grow in long curls, tied with a pink ribbon. Eventually, 'father exerted his gentle authority' ... and Peter was more appropriately attired! .....All of that, began so long ago.

This has only been archived with your fantastic support, your likes, shares, interaction...which I am, as always very humbled by and most grateful.

PCAS was founded back in 1956, but in 1979 Peter Cushing decided that, because he was then committing to less work, that the public would lose interest, and requested that his fan clubs around the world be closed. I took over the society in 1978 and made a decision to carry on, believing that there would ALWAYS be an interest in Peter Cushing and his work... here we are in 2016 and the interest is even greater! You make it so... and that I am sure, would have warmed Peter's heart tremendously .. Here's to the next milestone and the fun along the way. Thank You - Marcus Brooks

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY : PETER CUSHING AND PATRICK TROUGHTON 'THE BLACK KNIGHT' (1946)

#‎TOOCOOLTUESDAY‬: The Black Knight (1954)...Yes, it is hokey, Yes, Ladd is short, And, yes to a million one other reasons many have expressed that this film is a 'sword and sandal' medieval mess up...BUT Peter Cushing, as ever gives a top notch performance. Not only does he play the role very well indeed, he looks very COOL.... In our short clip here, Cushing appears with Patrick Troughton  who is on fine form.  The clip also gives to actors known for their connection with  Dr / Doctor  Who!

MANY ON SEEING  publicity stills from the film, find it hard to believe it's our man playing Sir Palamides. Also I can always find time to watch Andre Morell, Harry Andrews and Patrick Troughton. Worth a watch for those four reasons alone!

Now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is out and about...the features and news updates on the net have multiplied many fold...and many mention Peter Cushing...and if they mention Cushing, you can be sure, they'll churn-out the Tarkn Slippers story.

The first time I ever knew about, what is now the legendary tale of Peter wearing carpet slippers on the set of Star Wars when filming, was back in 1979, when I first met Dave Prowse, and he told me about Cushing having to wear those slippers...and why. I thought we had a bit of an exclusive and typed up the story in the Ten Fun Facts On Star Wars section in the revamped Peter Cushing Fan Club Journal for November 1979.

As usual sent I a copy to Peter Cushing and his secretary Joyce Brougton. After a few days, I received the customary letter from Joyce Brougton, thanking me for the latest journal, but pointing out that...' Sir, does not have a problem with his feet, and the fact that he wore carpet slippers during filming, I am sure it will be of little interest to your readers...' Well, Joyce it was and still is. And now, here from 1989 is Peter Cushing, for the first time, explaining the slipper saga himself...... I still have the letter by the way.
