#CUSHING GIF WEDNESDAY! VINNIE PERTWEE AND MARSHA THE MAD!

IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENT TO ADD TO THIS PAGE POST OR QUESTIONS, JUST EMAIL US AT PETERCUSHINGPCAS@GAMIL,COM AND I WILL ADD IT TO TO THIS POST!

WEDNESDAY'S would have returned to FREE GIF day over at our CLOSING FACEBOOK PAGE this week, instead of us giving away rare contact sheets and colour Cushing, Lee and Price photographs for you collectors out there. THOSE great gifts will resume here at the website soon. Lots to give you, I think you will like! In the meantime GIFS. They are back on Wednesday's! I always love posting images of Vincent and Christopher here. Good friends of Peter's and always fun to share here. Especially, in THIS film. Not everyone liked it. Personally, I LOVE it. Vincent, despite not being happy with the finished production . . .still performed so well and Lee, come the end, was truly terrifying!!! You KNOW this one... and  what did you think of it...and were they right to be cast together in this special one? This GIF was requested by Dylan T! Hope you like it Dylan, it IS just as you asked for!

JON PERTWEE ONLY APPEARED I think, in just ONE Amicus film. His role in 'THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD', has always been popular. Assisted by Ingrid Pitt playing Carla Lind, playing his, Paul Henderson's girlfriend in Segment 4 'THE CLOAK' Pertwee was great. Probably the ONLY actor to have delivered a line about Christopher Lee playing the role of DRACULA, in a mocking way...and got away with it! CUSHING's role as Philip Grayson in his story with Joss Ackland, 'WAXWORKS' I always find a little trying to enjoy. Cushing was at this time, nursing he very ill wife, Helen.

HE TRIED to leave the commitment of the film, so he could be with her. Stubbornly, the producers said no. Cushing life Shepperton studios, every night, to travel to Whitstable, to be with his wife, to leave early the following early hours, for the next days shoot. This great GIF was requested by Paula Dean.

IT'S COMMON KNOWLEDGE whatever role Milton Subotsky suggested to Peter Cushing in any of his AMICUS FILMS, with the exception of  a few starring roles, the script was always open, if there was a role Peter preferred to play. In TALES FROM THE CRYPT, Grimsdyke was NOT the role he was originally offered. Cushing was originally intended to play Ralph Jason, but after looking at the script he suggested to Subotsky that he would do more justice to the role of Mr. Grimsdyke. Subotsky never considered offering Grismdyke to Cushing, because of the connections with Cushing's own wife, Helen having passed, just months before.

THE ROLE OF THIS chap though, so Milton told me, was something Peter very much liked. On receiving the script, Peter told Milton he could supply most of the costume, and would be very happy to play it. It's one of Cushing's most amusing and yet a little dark too. The perfect combination for Cushing. Something that would make us, uneasy about a man who himself was the kindest and so much loved. Terri Beale this is YOUR requested GIF!

MARSHA A HUNT, is known to have had a good time when making Hammer films 'DRACULA AD 1972' and when the camera was off, she liked to have fun, and didn't take Christopher Lee's playing of the Count off camera and his authority, that seriously or respectfully at all. BUT when it came to shoot her scenes with his DRACULA, there was no shortage of, what appeared to be TRUE concern. HA!  This GIF is requested by Dawn Hughes . .

REMEMBERING EDDIE POWELL : HORROR STUNTMAN AND MUCH MORE!

REMEMBERING EDDIE POWELL TODAY 🙂 Here is a guy who who appeared in many many Hammer films...was Christopher Lee's favorite stuntman and stand the majority of his horror films. Dracula Prince of Darkness, The Mummy's Shroud, he appeared in several BOND films, Cushing's Dr Who, Daleks Invasion Earth. Later, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Batman in 1989... and not many of the fans of Ridley Scott's ALIEN, realize it was Eddie in the costume during many of the scenes and stunts!

BLESS YOU EDDIE, you were a master and genius! PLEASE help us celebrate his birthday today, he sadly left us in August 11th in 2000. He has left behind a real archive of work and many friends and people who still miss him 🙂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDDIE!

A THURSDAY PACKED WITH THE PAST : THROWBACK THURSDAY: THE NEW AVENGERS EXPLOSIVE TARDIS AND A SPECIAL MEMORY

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! It's a nice touch, that when the new and rebooted AVENGERS came back to TV, in the very first episode broadcast on the 17th October 1976, they brought Peter Cushing along to help launch the new series. Cushing, had of course appeared in the 1960's hey day series, in an episode entitled 'The Return of the Cybernauts' in 1967. Then, playing Paul Beresford, a baddie through and through first time round, Cushing returns playing , Professor Maybach Von Claus, nice chap in an evil situation . .. In The EAGLE'S NEST, Steed investigates the death of a colleague while Gambit witnesses the kidnapping of Professor Von Claus. Purdey scuba dives to the remote island of St. Dorca, where a monastery hides a secret and Germany's greatest treasure.

TODAY IN THE TRUE SPIRIT of #TBT we take you back to FEBRUARY 17TH 1976, and the return of a gem from telly past, The Avengers, brushed down and polished, karate kicking and tea cup cup tilting, and ready for adeventures new with gentleman STEED, with two new companions. The inclusion of Joanna Lumley and Garethe Hunt, taking a little of an older, but just as iconic Steed, was a great idea, bring Peter Cushing along from the original AVENGERS series, was a master stroke!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! Those of you who are big fans of the UK tv show, 'The Avengers' and 'The New Avengers' from the 60's and 70's, will probably know right away, what this clip is about. For the rest of us well... In an episode of 'THE NEW AVENGERS' called , "TARGET', our heroes Steed (Patrick Macnee) Purdey (Joanna Lumley) and Gambit (Gareth Hunt) are being tested on an ambush / gun assault -course- range (???) thing...! Presumably, to check if their wits are sharp and they are still fit for the job??

THE ASSAULT RANGE is disguised as a small village, with a collection of buildings and streets, with fake graffiti and road-signs and . . robot assassins! There is also a 'police telephone box' which they blow up...! Now, the writer of this episode is Dennis Spooner. Some believe the inclusion of the box / tardis gave Spooner the opportunity for an in-joke about a 'previous job', hint hint...as the police box is spectacularly detonated at one point ! Rumour suggests this is the actual TARDIS exterior from the Amicus Dalek movies. . . .what do you think??

ABOVE YESTERDAY'S BANNER, an experiment to see if we could take an interactive post vote on facebook to see which Cushing Collectable Hi Res photographs. we most wanted to share. Sadly, facebook's practice of squashing any of our posts that contain links to platforms outside of the facebook domain, sabotaged what could have been a useful tool . However, the few that DID get to see the post, voted, and these are the two hi res stills, that were most popular with you! Top: A contact sheet of images from Hammer films, 'DRACULA ad 1972' and a striking colour portrait of Peter Cushing as General von Spielsdorf, from THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970). Despite the setback this week,. we will continue with Cushing Collectors Wednesdays, and next week, there will be MORE rare images shared . . .!

TODAY MARKS WHAT would have been a very significant birthday in the life of Peter Cushing...the birthdate of his wife, Helen. Peter never forgot to mark anniversaries or special days with Helen, often making her beautiful greetings cards, notes and..of course the silk scarves. He never forgot her birthday, and neither shall we... so, in remembrance, Happy Birthday Helen.

VAN HELSING AND ALUCARD GO HEAD TO HEAD!

#HAMMERFILMSATURDAY: The scene that probably rankled Hammer film fans the most? The lifting of the Alucard motif from Universal's Son Of Dracula and death by.....well, you'll see. Personally, I could think of a dozen or more interesting ways to polish off Mr A, but I suppose Mr H had to improvise, with what he had to hand?? What do you think???

#HAMMERSATURDAY : BEACHAM'S BOULDERS AND HAYDEN'S SPADE

#HAMMERFILMSATURDAY: Despite having looked at, edited, posted and actually cleaned this rare transparency from behind the scenes on #DRACULA AD 1972. It has that typical workman like attitude, that many associate with plumbers, bricklayers and carpenters in the UK, a little 'heavy handed'. How-else can you justify the dropping of two great dirty rocks onto a silk design dress, to make it stay in place for a photograph??

#HAMMERFILMSSATURDAY:  Linda Hayden really puts her all, into this rare contact sheet shot from 'Taste the Blood of Dracula' with Geoffrey Keen . . . I really do hope that WAS a rubber spade!

GIMMETHEGIF: FACTOID FINGERS AND WHO TURNED ON THE LIGHTS!

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY: SOME GREAT GIFS have been requested, by you, over the last few days, from some of the best moments taken from Peter Cushing's films. #DRACULAAD1972  #DRTERRORSHOUSEOFHORRORS, two key moments that everyone remembers! Also yesterday, we kicked off a new DAILY FEATURE that will be appearing at our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE and here at the website, The Cushing Geeks of the Day Factoid! It's a bit of fun. We'll be presenting a daily post of what could be facts or fabrications, on the life and career of Peter Cushing. Remember the focus is on FUN. We'll be asking you to comment and post, join in on debating if what we are stating is FACT or FICTION. From the individuals commenting, we'll be selecting one of the correct answer to make #CUSHINGGEEKOFTHEDAY...!! It's tongue in cheek and a wink at our fun preoccupation with all things connected with Cushing. It's why we are here!

#GIMMEGIFWEDNESDAY: FOR KIRSI AAVIKKO, UK this chiller moment for Christopher Lee's art critic, Franklyn Marsh from 'DR TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS. This story was maybe the beginning of Amicus films, LOVE of disembodied hands!

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY: As popular as ever and proving the point we made last Sunday in our #GETTHECUSHIONITSCUSHING on DRACULA AD 1972, maybe the most POPULAR, UNPOPULAR Dracula film of the Hammer Cushing Lee series? Here for ROMA FARRADAY, UK is Christopher Neame's Johnny Alucard, 'Blinded by the light!'. Proving there is more than one way, to dazzle a vampire with a light . . and it doesn't have to be the sun!

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY: FOR PERRY VESTLI, USA : ANOTHER one from the #DRACULA AD 1972 pile! That moment of, 'Well what's going on here then?' from Dracula, who thinks he has blown Van Helsing's plans to destroy him . . but, things changed very quickly in the next few seconds! All part of the great few great scenes with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee together, in the roles that helped to make them so popular!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: I would have liked to have shown you what must be, one of the rarest posters featuring Hammer's DRACULA as played by Christopher Lee. Those of you who are familiar with the bit of detective work I did about three years ago on, the Daily Mirror Christopher Lee Photo-Session and the 'Linda Hayden' pic, will know the session that this colour pic came from! This photograph also turned up in a 'top shelf' magazine in a feature called, 'Cult of the Restless Dead'. You can read about the photo-session and see pics from the contact prints,by clicking HERE
