HEY! YOU WANNA BUY A MAHAR???!

HEY! WANNA BUY A MAHAR?? Hmm the PERFECT PET! No? 😊Those of you who remember Peter Cushing's film 'At the earth's Core' with Caroline Munro and Doug McClure back in 1975, will remember these terrifying telepathic flying reptiles who lived deep in a Welsh mountain . . I know them well 😉

THIS PUPPET IS ACTUALLY made made from latex over a heavy steel armature, with metal wires protruding from the back and hooks on the wings for use during flying shots. It is hand-painted for additional detailing, including faux blood over the claws and beak, as well as the outline of a ribcage on the chest. There appears to be some considerable wear from production use and age. The rubber latex has cracked and broken away in some areas, revealing the metal skeleton. The left foot is no longer present. Dimensions: 110 cm x 56 cm x 96 cm (43 1/4" x 22" x 37 3/4") and has a £1,000 - £1,500 tag! This and many OTHER props and goodies are all part of the amazing Treasures from film and Television LIVE auction from Sept 30th until 1st Oct 2019! With all It's all bids online.... wouldn't this look great in a kennel in your back garden?? 😉 Good luck 🙂 - Marcus

HOW MUCH DID A VAMPIRE HUNTER GET PAID PER DAY IN 1972?

RECENTLY 'THE PROPS GALLERY' has started sharing a scan of Peter Cushing's contact for Hammer films, 'THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA back in 1973. Cushing's was playing one of his most iconic roles as vampire hunter, Van Helsing for the third time for Hammer films, starring alongside Christopher Lee as Count Dracula. After the sad passing of his wife, Helen Cushing in 1971, a period of his long and acute grief with a intense course of work. Cushing signed up and appeared in almost a dozen films in just over a twelve month period. Not all were staring or man roles, but each required commitment and provided work to keep the griving Peter Cushing occupied. Companies like Amicus films, whoose practice of applying as many star names as possible to the film's bill and cast role, were able to offer Cushing quite a few opportunites. Even though Amicus were known for their tight budgets, it was according their producer, Milton Subotsky, never a problem to negotiate a contact and deal with John Redway Cushing's agent for many years.

FROM THE BEGINNING of the 1970's Cushing daily rate was between £250 to £350 a day. Sometimes this would be adjusted, depending on what Cushing was expected to actually do on the day. During one of our Subotsky interviews in the 1980's, Milton with a smile told us that, 'It was never an issue with Peter. You could always find a way. He never out priced himself.' Today a total sum of £6,000 for a second billing actor for five weeks of work, may seem a little slim! But at this time, this was indeed a respectable sum. In 1971, £100 UK pounds by today's value was worth roughly £1,386. 76p!! So not a sum to snif at 😉

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! FOR MANY of our followers in the UK, watching the opening credits of this films, will bring back misty memories of the first time this was shown on BBC TV. It would have been the first time I had seen this movie too. For a long time, the title #HORROREXPRESS was jotted down in pencil in my Cushing film tally notebook, in GREEN

The GREEN PENCIL indicated to my young Cushing Fan eyes, that this one had still to be seen. There were about eight films, pre 'the VHS HOME VIDEO PLAYER' era, that I still dreamed of seeing. Horror Express, i can say was everything I hoped I hoped it would be. Unlike some of the titles, I finally awarded my 'SEEN IT' RED TICK  in the margin. I was such a tough  critic as a kid!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! A super BONUS competition for this #CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY, even  before our MAIN COMPETITION is over! See BELOW. More details Saturday . . .

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY!: REQUESTED REPOST by Tomas Watkins . . . 'Can we see that photograph with Lee and Price again please, If possible? I want to see if I can identify those medals on Christopher Lee's chest..' For you, tomas... and if you crack it, please let us know - Marcus

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: RARE THOUGHT LOST CUSHING FILM TURNS UP!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: When archiving Peter Cushing's films over the years, one the hardest to find has been a little short made by MGM as part of the public information war effort campaign called 'The Woman of the House'. Cushing's role is very brief, no dialogue.

IT'S BEEN IN THE VAULTS of MGM probably since the mid 1940's. However, when Ted Turner of TCM made his mega purchase of the most of the MGM back catalogue, he also swept up their war time shorts too... we didn't know this until this film turned up on TCM this week!!! This is all good news.

MANY THOUGHT THE FILM was lost or destroyed. Let's hope TCM will maybe dig out the three other MGM Cushing shorts too. These also have never been seen since their screenings back in the 1940's. Many thanks to Marcia Loisel for these captures!

SYNOPSIS: Short drama about a British girl (Shirley Ann Richards) whose fiancé, after an argument, enlists to fight in the Boer War and is killed. Feeling guilty, she refuses to leave her house for 40 years, until it is bombed by the Nazis in World War II. Directed by Sammy Lee.
