HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER CUSHING AND HERE'S ANOTHER MILESTONE TOO!

TODAY IS A VERY SPECIAL DAY... Peter Wilton Cushing was born today, May 26th 1913.... Please join us in celebrating, leaving your comments and sharing our posts, to mark this very special day and help us to . . . keep the memory alive!

PETER CUSHING ON HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY!

WE ARE SO LUCKY that Peter Cushing has left us such a large and varied body of work, from his appearances on TV, his writing and of course his film work. And if that wasn't enough, the spirit of the man still echos in everything we do here. When alive, Peter Cushing was so loved and respected. His acts of kindness are still remembered by many who met, worked and knew him. They continue to comment, write and share their stories here at our internet platforms. And editing our content here, is a real joy, when it's always received in the spirit of a man who made so many people happy, and left such an impression on everyone he met.

THE CGI TARKIN that appeared in 'ROGUE ONE : A Star Wars Story' created so much interest in Peter's performance as Grand Moff Tarkin in 'Star Wars: A New Hope' and his many other roles on the small and big screen. Over the weeks, huge amount of column inches written about those Tarkin scenes, which helped push Peter Cushing back into the public arena...not that he ever went away! The fact that the name PETER CUSHING, was trending for several days at the beginning of the year, did his career and our society, no harm at all! But the fact remains, with or without high profile exposure,on a day to day basis, it's no hardship, promoting and remembering a gentleman, who is still so dearly loved..who always gets a positive reaction. The fact that his name always gets a smile when mentioned is part of legacy. So, lets blow out the candles, raise a glass, celebrate and remember the smiles AND the frights!..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PETER CUSHING

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY: A GLASS OF WATER AND A BOWL!

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY: This year marks the 60th anniversary of the release of Hammer films The Curse of Frankenstein, starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The first of the whole Hammer saga which featured Peter Cushing in six epics about the Baron. 60 years old, and still as popular as ever, it still very much ALIVE! Enjoy this classic clip where Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) sees his 'creation' alive for the first time!!

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY: It's FORTY THREE YEARS since Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell was released in the US. There was a delay of several years before Cushing / Hammer fans got to see the last of the Cushing Hammer series... and even then, the censors cut it to ribbons. Here is one of the scenes, that got the censors knife... ironically! All I will say is give me a 'Glass of Water And A Basin......! Enjoy this resurrected clip!

TWENTY TWO YEARS ON : REMEMBERING PETER CUSHING

#‎throwbackthursday‬ . . TODAY, AUGUST 11th.... this year marks the 22nd year of Peter Cushing passing in 1994. I guess over the years while posting on this page and our website, our preoccupation, is the business of nostalgia, we are remembering not only Peter Cushing...but also his friends and associates. So, we mark many anniversaries of people sadly no longer with us....and we try and do that with a large measure of reflection, appreciation, while being very careful not to become maudlin.

AND THAT TOO, is probably the way Peter would want to be remembered today, without 'the black arms bands and wailing! We spend every day here, CELEBRATING his life and career... and even though it seems like yesterday that he died, it's a true mark of 22 years later, how much an impression Peter made on the minds and lives of people while he was here, that we STILL remember him... So today, we post and comment, and do as we do every day.. 'We Keep The Memory Alive'.

SO, HERE'S TO YOU Peter Cushing, gentleman and friend to all, professional to his finger tips, in life as in work.. WE REMEMBER YOU!

OVER AT OUR Peter Cushing Appreciation Society Facebook Fan Page we are asking our friends and followers to leave LIKES, post any images they would like share, comments, memories...whatever everyone would like to say or do. It's EVERYONE'S page. We do this, as always... TOGETHER!

THE BARD AND PETER CUSHING: MARKING 400 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

It's 400 years ago today, that as Shakespeare, ' shufflel'd off this mortall coile...!' an often quoted line from his 1602 crowd puller, 'Hamlet'. And it's his drama, Hamlet that also provides our Cushing Connection! As many of you may know, Peter Cushing to great success, played Osric in the 1948 Olivier film production, see pic above!. Cushing was no stranger to Shakespeare, having tackled many a role while touring with the Olivier company and in several productions during the 1930's and 40's.

In fact, had not fate intervened, playing several of Shakespeare's characters in a production entitled 'Heritage of Horror' would probably have been his swan-song. Unfortunately, it was a real 'Shakespearian tragedy' that Tyburn and Kevin Francis, could not secure the funding. Peter even grew a beard in preparation for the role, and maintained it until his final day... just as in Shakespeare's time, today some 400 years on, financing drama is in the hands of... '...cream faced loons..' Tis a pity. Rest easy Will . . .

Peter and Helen Cushing, Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh arrive at Freemantle, Australia with the Old Vic Theatre Company....during their tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1948.... they performed Shakespeare's Richard III and Sheridan's 'School for Scandal'.... (A: Helen Cushing B: Peter Cushing C: Laurence Olivier.

DR WHO AND THE DALEKS : RELEASED 50 YEARS AGO TODAY

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of AARU Productions of 'DR WHO AND THE DALEKS' starring Peter Cushing as Dr Who, supported by Roy Castle, Jennie Linden and Roberta Tovey. The film is based on the second serial of the British science fiction Doctor Who television programme, The Daleks, produced by the BBC. Shot in Technicolor, it is the first Doctor Who story to be made in colour and in a widescreen format.

Peter Cushing's portrayal of Dr Who was never intended to form part of the ongoing storylines of the television series. His role in neither this film or sequel, Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 AD are not considered canon. Elements from the programme were used, however, such as various characters, the Daleks and a police box time machine, albeit in re-imagined forms.

Produced by Milton Subotsky and his partner, Max Rosenberg who formed Amicus Productions in the early 1960's, Dr Who and the Daleks production was managed by an off shoot company AARU, specifically form for the two Dr Who enterprises. The film was at the time, the twentieth biggest British box office moneymaker in 1965.

Good old fashioned family entertainment, from a more innocent time, Dr Who and the Daleks celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the day of it's cinema release in the UK today!
