WE ARE SO LUCKY that Peter Cushing has left us such a large and varied body of work, from his appearances on TV, his writing and of course his film work. And if that wasn't enough, the spirit of the man still echos in everything we do here. When alive, Peter Cushing was so loved and respected. His acts of kindness are still remembered by many who met, worked and knew him. They continue to comment, write and share their stories here at our internet platforms. And editing our content here, is a real joy, when it's always received in the spirit of a man who made so many people happy, and left such an impression on everyone he met.

ABOVE A TREAT for PETER'S BIRTHDAY TODAY . .. here is a NEW clip from our PCAS video series, THE LAST MEETING, all made form the rare and candid video footage that was filmed, when Peter and Christopher not only worked together for the last time, but the last time they actually met before Peters passing a short time later. Peter adored Christopher's company, and this was a very special day for him, as he would hear all his favourite stories, and jokes from his best friend... He was very very happy this day. I hope you too, will smile while watching, what was a very special friendship. With love from us all TODAY and every day...Happy Birthday PETER!

PETER WILTON CUSHING was born on the morning of MONDAY 26th May 1913, at 'Ormandy', Godstone Road, Kenley, Surrey, UK...to father George Edward Cushing and mother, Nellie Maria Cushing. Peter's father was a quantity surveyor and Nellie was the daughter of a carpet merchant.

 

PETER WILTON CUSHING ' ...long curls, tied with a pink ribbon'. Aged just two in 1915. Little Peter had an elder brother, David, three years his senior. It appears that mother Nellie had her heart set on having a girl. 'Wanting 'one of each' she had mitigated any disappointment in my arrival by dressing me in girls frocks!', Cushing recalled..'allowing my hair to grow in long curls, tied with a pink ribbon. Eventually, 'father exerted his gentle authority' ... and Peter was more appropriately attired! .....All of that, began so long ago.

This photograph was taken in the garden of 'Clearview', an Art Deco house on St James Road, Purley, Surrey, Peter's father, a quantity surveyor built the house in the year this photograph was taken, 1926.

ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS, it's no hardship, promoting and remembering a gentleman, who is still so dearly loved..who always gets a positive reaction. The fact that his name always gets a smile when mentioned is part of and proof of an amazing legacy. A CATCH UP : ALL POSTS FROM THE LAST FOUR DAYS!

YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED, everything came to grinding halt here on the website for the past few days. A few problems with the uploading, cause by someone tampering with the site. YOu may have also noticed we lost our PCAS YOUTUBE CHANNEL two weeks ago. Despite much effort trying to get it back, I fear the same 'Peter Cushing and Hammer Films Fan' who made us a target for YOUTUBE taking us down, is also behind causing trouble with our website. Everything is now fixed, we will be reactivating our MARK ONE YOUTUBE ACCOUNT, which was superseded by our MARK TWO CHANNEL, about two years ago. It will just take time to update that channel to the point where, the closed channel was... over 2,000 clips and intervirews, trailers and rare Cushing films... before it was taken down. Worked has started on the channel already, and THIS post will bring us up date, with posts that WERE posted at our PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE during the short time, this website was having problems! 

THE 22ND OF MAY, brought us an opportunity to celebrate the BIRTHDAY of one of PETER CUSHING's favourite writers and one of his close friends. of his early days in theatre and film . . .

TODAY WE REMEMBER SIr Arthur Conan Doyle who was born on this day a writer best known for his detective fiction featuring the character Sherlock Holmes. Originally a physician, in 1887 he published A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels about Holmes and Dr. Watson. In addition, Doyle wrote over fifty short stories featuring the famous detective. The Sherlock Holmes stories are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction. Peter Cushing played Sherlock Holmes in Hammer's THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, then in the BBC TV SERIES and finally in Tyburn's THE MASKS OF DEATH

TODAY WE ALSO REMEMBER an acting legend! Laurence Olivier who was born on this day in 1907. Olivier dominated the British stage of the mid-20th century. He also worked in films throughout his career, playing more than fifty cinema roles. Late in his career, he had considerable success in television roles. Among Olivier's best known films are Wuthering Heights (1939), Rebecca (1940), and a trilogy of Shakespeare films as actor-director: Henry V (1944), Hamlet (1948), and Richard III (1955).
 

OLIVIER'S LATER FILMS included The Shoes of the Fisherman (1968), Sleuth (1972), Marathon Man (1976), and The Boys from Brazil (1978). For his on-screen work he received four Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, five Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. The National Theatre's largest auditorium is named in his honour, and he is commemorated in the Laurence Olivier Awards, given annually by the Society of London Theatre.
 

PETER CUSHING co-starred and was directed by Olivier in Hamlet (1948) with Cushing playing Osric. Another notable thing about the film although they shared no scenes together it was the first film to star both Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, who had an uncredited role as a spear carrier with no spoken lines. What are some of your favorite Olivier films and performances?

THIS LADY NEEDS no introduction... and we covered her special day on the 23rd of May! TODAY WE ARE are wishing Joan Collins a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY today.

AT AGE 22 in 1955, Collins headed to Hollywood and landed sultry roles in several popular films, including The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing (1955) and Rally Round the Flag, Boys! (1958). While she continued to make films in the US and the UK throughout the 1960s, she also guest-starred in an episode of Star Trek in 1967 named "The City on the Edge of Forever", as Edith Keeler.

DURING THE 1970'S she appeared in a number of Horror films such as Hammer's FEAR IN THE NIGHT (1972) Amicus's TALES FROM THE CRYPT (1972) both with Peter Cushing and also Tales That Witness Madness (1973)

JOAN COLLINS WITH JUDY GEESON IN  HAMMER FILMS FEAR IN THE NIGHT

HER BIGGEST SUCCESS came in 1981, she landed the role of Alexis Colby, the vengeful and scheming ex-wife of John Forsythe's character, in the 1980s soap opera Dynasty, winning a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 1982; she is credited with the success of Dynasty, which was the most-watched television series in the United States during the 1984-85 broadcast season.

REMEMBERING JON PERTWEE AND VAN HELSING'S TERROR TALES NOW AVAILABLE IN HARDBACK WHILE STOCKS LAST!

IN THE USA, for decades there was never a shortage of comics and magazines, with a Hammer film or Cushing and Lee angle, along with the usual Universal Monsters focus too, when the 70's arrived, the UK started some very interesting comics and magazines too.  One of which was House of Hammer, a magazine edited by Dez Skinn and published by Top Sellers / Warners. Launched in 1976, the format of the mag was to lead with a comic strip adaptation of a Hammer movie, run several articles and interviews pertaining to Hammer horror films, and end with a short, complete twist-in-the-tail comic strip entitled Van Helsing's Terror Tales.

THE VAN HELSING monthly strip, was maybe one of the most popular strips in the magazine. It featured artwork by some of the UK's top creators such as Brian Lewis, John Bolton, Angus McKie, Trevor Goring, Martin Asbury, Jim Baikie, Patrick White, and more. 

NOW, DEZ SKINN has unearthed those horror classics from the vault and is publishing them in one 80 page limited edition hardback book. (The signed edition is limited to just 100 copies.) The hardback features some of the best, and there are some great pieces that I personally remember from that time. The comic strips were always really well presented . .

TODAY WE REMEMBER Jon Pertwee who we sadly lost on this day in May 1996. Pertwee became best known for spending 18 years (1959–1977) playing Chief petty officer Pertwee in the popular series The Navy Lark on BBC Radio. But achieved world wide recognition from playing the Third Doctor in Dr Who whom he played from 1970 to 1974.

THE ROYAL CUSHING AND LEE CONNECTIONS ON A ROYAL WEDDING DAY!

YOU WOULD HAVE to have been living in a CAVE not to be aware what took place in WINDSOR UK today...a ROYAL Wedding no less, of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, all supported by a few thousand guests from around the globe and a few hundred thousans members of the public, cheering and support their BIG day! It's the kind of thing that both Peter and Christopher Lee would have enjoyed very much. BOTH were royal supporters...and each had ther own private time with The Queen, Prince Charles, Princess Diana and co... Lee of course had his KNIGHTHOOD and Peter his OBE... The wedding event is still going strong, and our TV and radio stations are covering every detail! But hey...I didn't get an invite!!! I wish Harry and Meghan MUCH happiness and success in the coming years...they are very popular, and I am very very happy for them..I think PC and CL would have been too . . .

VALUE OF AD DRACULA CINEMA POSTER EXPECTED TO BRING IN FRIGHTENING BIDS!

NEWS: Are you a COLLECTOR? Have any original stills from Hammer or Cushing films? Maybe a cinema poster or two? IF you have a mint copy of Hammer films DRACULA AD 1972 UK quad poster . . you might be sitting on a little mint! According to the press release on the London Odeon BFI IMAX FILM and MEMORABILIA AUCTION taking place on JUNE 28th this year, one of their lots is this very poster and they are expecting the hammer (!!) to go down on at least, EIGHT THOUSAND POUNDS for the lucky bidder who wins it. PCAS also actually owns an original item of this poster too. It was purchased from cinema poster and stills trader Greg Edwards back in 1980. I actually bought the poster for the collection as part of a double purchase deal... a quad of THE BRIDES of DRACULA cost £40...but the DRACULA AD one cost.... £18!!!!

FOR MANY YEARS the AD 1972 memorabilia had very little value, along with the Satanic Rites of Dracula, but times have changed. A quad featuring bot AD and the 1970 film TROG has been sold many times for anywhere from £100 to £300 UK pounds..but it's RARE you get to see the poster from then film's original release. SO...do YOU own any Cushing / Lee / Hammer posters and have you ever purchased an expensive Cushing memorabilia item??
