NEWS: MYSTERY OF MISSING BRASS PLAQUE IN WHITSTABLE

Over the years, many of you have sent us photographs of your visits to what was Peter and Helen Cushing's home town of Whitstable in Kent. I see many many photographs of the 'love bench' that Peter donated to the town, dedicated from both he and his late wife. Only yesterday (Monday 18th September), a good friend to the PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE Becky Jarrett, made a trip to Whitstable and thought she would walk along to 'Cushing's View' at the sea front and sit on the 'Cushing Bench' and take in the sun and sights. She was upset to discover that the brass dedication plate has vanished from the bench ....

You'll find LOTS of features about the 'Cushing's Love Seat'
here at the website, but here is a interesting one! CLICK HERE!

For over 25 years, the bench has sat there, in all weathers, offering a place to sit and admire the view, that Peter Cushing visited on his daily walks along the front. Visitors from around the world, visit Whitstable, many knowing the town's connection with Peter and Helen, and visit Cushing's View and the bench. Never has the bench been defaced, carved into, vandalized or damaged. Just over two years ago, the bench vanished... no warning.. while it was given a coat of varnish and some TLC. It returned, looking better than ever. I am hoping, the plaque has been removed for some maintenance too... If you have any news or information about its where-abouts, please let us know here . . . thank you Becky for letting us know ;) Marcus

THE ARTIST WHO CAPTURED THE BEAUTY IN THE HORROR: BASIL GOGOS IS DEAD.

Very sad to hear of the passing of legendary artist, BASIL GOGOS today. . . I first became aware of his incredible work on the Famous Monsters of Filmland covers... and this one in particular, of Peter Cushing. He leaves behind an enormous body of work, which fans and the lovers of his art will appreciate for many years to come . . .Do you have a favorite Gogo piece... ?

MANY MOONS AGO . .. . I spotted the cover of a certain magazine, on a  magazine rack, the kind you  see at airport news and book stores at airports, in our local newspaper vendors, in a teenie-tiny village, in the South of England.  It was my sixth birthday, and my grandma was taking  holding my hand, making her daily trip , to by her newspaper. I was invited along, because being my special day,  I could pick some sweets / candy from the large glass jars, that stood on shelves, behind the counter. I settled on half a pound of loose Jelly Babies, and while my Gran and shop keeper chatted and he was  weighing them,  looking around, I spotted the strangest cover of a magazine.

I didn't really know what the magazine was about, although I judging by that word 'MONSTERS' in white, and that amazing character on the front, which I guessed, was maybe the Phantom of the Opera ...I knew my monsters from watching the late night movies at my Grandma's . . . I wanted it SO BADLY. But my birthday treat was being poured from the weighing scales scooped sliver bowl, into brown paper bags. I'd blown it! If only I had seen the magazine before my sweet tooth had led me to the Jelly Babies . . . In hindsight, I didn't really need the sweets, because I had the sweetest, kindest Grandma in the world. I left the store holding my Grandma's hand with my right hand, and two bags of Jelly Babies in my left..... but under my arm, were was that magazine, with that amazing art on the cover. From that day on, things would never be the same. . . - Marcus

WATCH THE VAMPIRE LOVERS AND DARKNESS SIGNED TRIBUTE

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! Hammer films, 'The Vampire Lovers' just uploaded at our YOUTUBE Channel marked the first time that Peter Cushing met the lovely, Ingrid Pitt. You'll find lots of features at the website about how he and his wife, Helen became very good friends with Ingrid and how Peter encouraged her on the set of this film. They were to be cast together again later in the year in the Amicus production, 'The House that Dripped Blood' . .. though sadly they did not share screen time together...'The Vampire Lovers' marks a change in direction for Hammer films. Times had changed and the suggestive gossamer gowns and flirtatious nature of their female vampires would now appear minus gowns and engage in much more than a nibble!

The upload at the website and this youtube account is uncut, and in accordance with the sites regulations, our facebook fan page has always been restricted only to followers OVER the age of 18..as is this Youtube channel, and website. So beware, there IS flesh ahead. Depending on your sensibilities, the content of the film maybe very tame by today's standards, but not everyone has the same...standards. Though never asked at the time, I would have loved to have learned what Peter though of it all! For many, it was a step in a direction, in which Hammer could never return from . .. or recover. What do you think?

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! You know I mentioned, how much I look forward to your posts, and the goodies you share and send in here? While watching Horror express (!!) Follower Andy Isaacs shared this priceless framed tribute to Hammer films, 'Dracula, Prince of Darkness' ...a beautiful press still of Christopher Lee as Dracula, SIGNED by Lee, two lobby stills from 'Darkness' AND a great repro of the 'Darkness poster, signed by the late Francis Matthews and actress Barbara Shelley who both starred along Lee in the film also! I don't need to tell you about Lee's aversion to signing any stills depicting 'The Count' . . so this is outstanding on many counts..pardon the pun! Thank you Andy for sending this pic in and sharing it with us for today's theme! What do you think of this framed, signed tribute????

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: ITS ALL IN THE FINGERS! #GIFS

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: As you probably know, Wednesday is our THEME DAY when we post #GIFS as requested by YOU during the past week. This week the Theme at the website is 'FINGERS!' and this one was requested by Tomas Wentry from the UK. It's a clip from one of the last annual Christmas messages that Lee shared on the net.... that little gesture at the end there, ensured the clip went viral!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! Here we have a surprising example of the dexterity of a DALEK claw! Who would have thought that a mechanical claw, could be so dainty?  This clip from Cushing's 'non-canon' Dr Who outing 'Dr Who and the Daleks' (1965) proves one thing, the pepper-pots may not be able to 'do' stairs, but if you want someone to your needle-point on the planet Scaro, these are your go to guys! Thanks to Milla  Sandosos, for the request and pointing this little factoid out!

Not EVERYONE enjoys Doctor Who OR the Daleks. Here's our REVIEW FEATURE and STILLS GALLERY at the website: CLICK HERE!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: Until I watched this film quite recently, not listening closely enough, I thought PC was handling a 'TOOTH!', so please allow me license, for the sake of our theme today?   Peter Cushing was famous for his use for props in films with him often having different items in his pocket even if they never appeared on screen. Getting the nickname 'Props Cushing.' RECALLING how the cast and crew on 'The Abominable Snowman' were entertained by Cushing's improvisation with props, director Val Guest said, "One Scene he gets give a tooth, we went for the take and then surprise, Peter brought out a small nail file, then a measuring tool! We got in the first take we'd never last another one!" Requested by Dina Meddows.

OUR ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN FEATURE AND RARE STILLS GALLERY HERE!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! THAT FINGER sure caused poor Peter Cushing's Emmanuel Hildern, a LOT of trouble. IF that petrified skeleton had come with a piece of paper, like those SEA MONKEYS from your childhood, 'JUST ADD WATER' . . for chaos, it would have saved him, from such a cruel and sad fate. 'The Creeping Flesh' (1973) is a film that often gets discussed on our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE. It seems everyone who watches the film, has their own theory on what is actually happening on screen. Multi layered it certainly is, or you can enjoy it as a simple tale of revenge and misfortune. Either way it is sadly, one that slipped through the net back in the day. Tigon, a very small production outfit, unfortunately didn't have budgets that stretched to the kind of publicity that their competitors had. Fortunately, thanks to  home viewing, dvd's and blu rays, the film is finally getting the exposure it so richly deserves. Try and catch it  . . Thanks to Shelly Nightingale for this requested #GIF.
