HAPPY BIRTHDAY WANDA AND TAKE YOUR PIC OF A FLICK AT WHITSTABLE!

YOU MIGHT HAVE HEARD OF or know Wanda for a whole lot of reasons... the ace 1960's Brit TV series 'UFO', Peter Cushing's 'love it hate it' Tigon horror film about a killer moth 'The Blood Beast Terror', the fact she played a role in a terrific Hammer horror film, mumbling under a paper mache mask for a fair while . . or the fact that she is THE Mum to a quite internationally famous actor...? Personally I LIKE 'The Blood Beast Terror', I like UFO and I love Ventham too 😊 Join in if YOU too want to wish the super Wanda Ventham, A Happy Birthday too, TODAY at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE!

JUST A FEW DAYS AGO, I was put on the spot! A message come though on the FACEBOOK PCASUK Fan Page, with a question, that really got me thinking. 'We are planning a FILM NIGHT at the Whitstable Castle, we would like to dedicate the film we are screening, to Peter Cushing, and are foxed as to which Cushing Hammer film we should screen. Any ideas? I don't know about you, but on the rare occasion I have a spare evening to sit and enjoy one of Peter Cushing's many titles, I usually end up cruising the spines of all 80 odd dvd's and blu rays, then studying the covers, a little dusting and rearranging, before I know, three hours or more has passed, with distractions and procrastination, resulting in not a one disc sliding into the player! I really am the last person to ask, but I did manage after at least an hour or chewing on it, one title. However, knowing often my suggestion may not fit their plans or thinking, I instead suggested the making of a token PCASUK banner very qucikly and throwing the question out to the entire following of the PCASUK FAN PAGE. The many, many, come back suggestions and results were very interesting indeed. If YOU want to add your suggestion to the list in the comments thread, PLEASE do! Here is a link to THAT post, join it with a click HERE! ANY news on the planned evening, I will share as NEWS here at the website, FACEBOOK and other PCASUK social platforms. Stay TUNED 😉

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ROD HULL AND THE BLOOD BEAST TERROR!

PLEASE JOIN US IN WISHING . . . English comedian, actor, presenter, radio host, author, past King Rat and authority on the history of music hall entertainment. . . Roy Hudd, a very Happy 83rd Birthday Today 😊 Even though Roy's huge career has spanned many decades, in just about every medium, he is probably more known in the UK than overseas.. and he probably wouldn't want it any other way 😄

READ ALL about Roy Hudd's time during the shooting of The Blood Beast Terror and working with Peter Cushing HERE!

ROY HUDD played a small role with Peter Cushing in the Tigon film, 'The Blood Beast Terror' as the black humored, morgue attendant. It was Roy's very first film role and back in 2014, he shared his memories of working with Peter and his time on the film, in our PCASUK Peter Cushing Remembered 20th Anniversary features, a link to which you'll find above! Roy added to his vast CV, a few years ago when he provided the narration to Don Fearney's 150 minute epic on the history of Amicus films! Have a great time and a wonderful birthday, Roy Hudd

#TBT THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE TIGON CREEPER

#TBT THE CREEPING FLESH started production with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee 45 years, 9 months, I week and 5 days ago . . .today, in 1972 at Shepperton studios. Tigon films the company behind the film were a pretty small production company, and released 17 films in the years 1967 and 1970. some were misses, but mostly hits, Witch-finder General, Blood on Satan's Claw, The Sorcerers, Doomwatch, The Blood Beast Terror, The Creeping Flesh and western Hannie Caulder, with Christopher Lee...all made money! The Creeping Flesh stands maybe in a class of it's own. Well cast, a frightening and puzzling script, very good production values..and yet it's the one film that probably gets mistaken for a Hammer film production, more than any other here. I would take that as a compliment! Do you have a fav TIGON film??

THE CREEPING FLESH: LORNA HEILBRON AND PETER CUSHING'S PLAYING OF PROF HILDREN

Peter Cushing commitment to the role of Emmanuel Hildren was as strong as ever, and his professionalism absolute. He still concerned himself with not only his performance, but every aspect of filming. His copy of of the script is enthusiastically annotated with character details and instructions to himself.

'Don't gabble. Don't over act. Don't be conventional absent minded professor' And there, mixed up with notes about hairpieces and how to prepare lab slides are the words, 'Bois' 'Helen' 'Us'.

Peter related to me as a father and was tremendously caring and supportive' co star, Lorna Heilbron remembers today.'I played his daughter. He felt that I resembled his wife, Helen, so we had a rather intense relationship where I felt he really lived his part in the film.'

To play the deranged Hildren in the prologue and epilogue, Cushing again sacrifices any shred of vanity - without the toupee, which he wore in practically every film now, his hair is whitend and disarrayed and his cheekbones are strongly emphasisedf with make up. A quavering voice, insisting 'I alone can save the world', completes the impression of the character's tragic mental collapse.

TWENTY YEARS ON TODAY: ROY HUDD REMEMBERS PETER CUSHING:

ROY HUDD REMEMBERS PETER CUSHING:

"I made my first appearance in a feature film mid September 1967. It wasn't quite 'Gone with The Wind', but a small budget horror film called 'The Blood Beast Terror'. I had a smashing little part as the mortuary attendant. I could hardly believe my luck when I looked at the script and saw i had two scenes with Peter Cushing!

I religiously leaned every word of my dialogue, backwards and sideways. Anyway, I arrived a good hour before I was called, around five am, at a tiny studio off the Goldhawk road. Eventually, I was called for make up and there, in the next chair , was the great man himself. "Good morning" he said 'I'm Peter Cushing" - as if I didn't know. "Have you seen the script for today?" he asked, Had I seen it? - Seen it?? I'd LIVED it for the past seven days. "oh yes" I stuttered. "Not very good is it?" said Peter. "Well..." I blustered. "No we can do better than that", he said. "Can we?", I said. "How can we make it funnier?" asked the great man. "Well...." I advised.. And that was the start. Together we rejigged the whole two scenes. Peter was very patient, encouraging, and VERY inventive. It was his idea to have me eating pickled onions from the jar between the legs of the cadaver!

If you have never faced a studio full of camera people, lighting guys, production staff, actors and extras then you don't know what FEAR is! I was, petrified! So anxious not to make a fool of myself. The director shouted, "Lets rehearse" but Peter said, "No, Roy's never done a film before, so I just want him to feel at home" He held up shooting for a good half hour while he showed me the set, where the lights would be, and where the camera would move, the lot!'

He did make me feel at home and that, all too short morning spent in his company has stayed with me for forty odd years. A GREAT star, taking time and trouble to make a raw beginner feel able to give his best.

Thank you Peter. You were a gentle, dear and wonderful man...
