#SILENTBUTDEADLY!: SEEING IS BELIEVING! #GIFS

#SILENTBUTDEADLY! : Without giving anything away about this film, you can clearly SEE something very important is going on here HA! The Amicus films #DRTERRORSHOUSEOFHORRORS was a bench mark time for Amicus, that after 'City of the Dead' informed Subostsky and Rosenberg, in which direction they should explore. If you have been watching our uploads of the Donald Fearney excellent mammoth documentary 'The Amicus Vault of Horrors' you see, every time Amicus went off in a different direction, a drama, a different theme..the film bombed at the box office. So, we can be thankful that Cushing's Dr Shreck and Co, were a big hit. Unlike these poor guys, the Amicus future after this scene, wasn't very bleak one!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! How was character actor Michael Ripper to know that, when he first read the 'HIDDEN FROM SIGHT, POACHER SEES 7ft TALL FIGURE WRAPPED IN BANDAGES, FROM BEHIND THE BUSHES' simple description in his script, that he would be forever associated with this short scene?. I have sat with friends.. . .we don't get out much.. and examined this shot. To try and discover, what is it that makes it so superbly funny. Ripper was a master of these roles. It was probably the thinnest of descriptions on the page, but from that, scriptwriter Anthony Hinds knew the role would be safe in Ripper's hands and Christopher Lee would supply the fright factor!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! : THE 'I THNK I AM SEEING THINGS OR going Out Of My Mind' and the 'Wife / Husband Driving Their Partner Around The Bend With Set Up's Orchestrated By Their Lover' is as old as the hills. BUT, it's a popular scenario in Horror and thrillers. Despite having watched probably hundreds of these fantasy films over the years, I still have that ability  that many jaded fans lost a thousand films ago. When I sit to watch a film, unless it's a really poorly scripted one, I just let the story take me along. I am not in the biz of playing amateur sleuth, or critic, picking the plot apart after the credits role. I enjoy these movies, that's why I watch them. I still have a certain naivety, when it comes to being entertained. I come to be fooled, mislead, I am the script writers dream audience. I am not busy sat there trying to work it out. Nope. I paid my five dollars / pounds, I want my monies worth... entertain me.

Which is why, in this tale from 'The House That Dripped Blood' : 'Method For Murder', I never saw the REVEAL in this story coming! Ha! I was with Denholm Elliott's  character, Charles Hillyer all of the way. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? If not, why are you watching?? As I said, from the off, I recognized the set up, but I wasn't expecting the wrap! Neither did I recognize that actor playing Dominick, the voice of UK's Channel Four four years, the late Tom Adams. Yup, I get good value out of most the films I see. Hey, I was the last person during our family viewing of all those terrible murders, to realize it was, Norman!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! And finally, Peter Cushing's Colonel William Raymond SEES Alex Hyde- White's Jim Ferguson, in 'Biggles: Adventures In Time' from 1986. See? It doesn't get any better than that . . . .

#CHRISTOPHER LEE: THE DEVIL AND PERFECT ROLES

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY!: A short interview with Christopher Lee on the set of the last film he appeared in for Hammer films, 'The Resident' in 2011. This clip was shot by CNN, during a visit to the set, wasn't used during the initial broadcast, probably because of the 'slightly off mic' sound.

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAYS! Here is a clip from the 1973 television pilot 'Poor Devil 'starring Sammy Davis Jr. as a down-on-his-luck demon with the Devil (Christopher Lee). Sadly the show was not picked up for a whole tv series. Jack Klugman and the late Adam West also co-starred in the feature-length pilot. How do you think this series would have worked, if it HAD been picked up??

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: VAMPS FIRE SMOKE AND FIGHTS!

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: THE SCRIPT FOR HAMMER FILMS fifth Frankenstein film 'Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed' afforded the 'creation' an opportunity to share his feelings and emotions, in a way that no other 'monster/creation' had before in any of the previous Cushing / Frankenstein's'. How fortunate than, to have cast the excellent Freddie Jones as the unfortunate Professor Richter / Doctor Brandt, who was able to do that dialogue justice. For once the one who had gone under the Baron's knife, had intelligence and cunning, and no more than in the scene where this clipped GIF comes from.

WHILE DESPERATELY dashing from room to room, looking for those all important notes, a hidden Brandt stops Frankenstein in his tracks, 'I fancy that I AM the spider and YOU are the fly, Frankenstein'. Lit by the flames of a flickering rag,  Brandt stands at the top of the staircase, holding glass lanterns full of  combustible oil. Brandt invites Frankenstein to a deadly game of cat and mouse. If he wants get out out of the house alive, he will have to out fox Brandt, and his intention of burning down the house, with them inside! Giving us one the all-times best endings to a Hammer film.

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) looks on in horror on discovering his friend, Jonathan Harker (John Van Eyssen) in Dracula's coffin, now transformed into a vampire! There is only one thing for it! Hammer films Dracula Horror of Dracula (1958) Requested by Junior Fleetwood.

OUR #MONSTERMONDAY TRIBUTE  TO THIS SCENE A FEW WEEKS GO!

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: VINNIE GOES PUFF! Paul Toombes sits in total boredom, during the junket party for his Dr Death movies, unfortunately it also brings together people and duds from his past, that he would rather forget . . . Weird coincidence, when I met with Vincent Price in 1980 and asked him about Madhouse, he said, 'I really would rather not talk about that one...!' He smiled and that made me laugh! Personally, it's a film I never get bored of...!

#MONSTERMONDAY: WHEN CUSHING TOOK ON THE HAMMER PRESS OFFICE

#MONSTERMONDAY: 'Oh that's not on...' says Cushing. Here's how Peter Cushing got Hammer to change the script on #THEMUMMY in an ever so clever way, when the press office got a little carried away! Was Cushing right to do this, do you think???

#MONSTERMONDAY: THE MUMMY 2017 VS THE MUMMY 1959

#MONSTERMONDAY: ...Ok I am playing devils advocate here, whole tomb of reasons why these films are different, but throw a dice here, and share your opinion. If you have had the chance to see the Tom Cruise The Mummy movie..and you have also seen the 1959 Cushing / Lee Hammer film too... which one do you prefer?

A BIRTHDAY AND FOND REMEMBRANCE : MCCLURE AND FURNEAUX

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: My name is Doug McClure... and you may now me from films like....' TODAY we celebrate the birthday of McClure, born and educated in Los Angeles, had small parts in the local film industry, starting with a submarine drama, The Enemy Below (1957) Soon, television stardom beckoned in The Overland Trail, as William Bendix's sidekick, and in a private eye series, Checkmate, and John Huston made him Burt Lancaster's younger brother in his western The Unforgiven (1960). He was a natural man of the West, enlivening The Virginian, the first television western series to have 90-minute episodes. In The Virginian, which ran from 1962 to 1970, McClure played Trampas, friend of the ranch foreman of the title, played by James Drury.

IN 1975 McClure came to Britain to star in The Land That Time Forgot, based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' 1918 science fiction novel. It was strictly double-bill fare, and he appeared in three follow-ups: At the Earth's Core (1976) with Peter Cushing as Abner Perry, The People That Time Forgot (1977) and Warlords of Atlantis (1978).

AMICUS PRODUCTIONS did the producing duties, with co-operation on the last two from American International Pictures, temporarily deserting teenagers on motor-bikes. Fighting dinosaurs and such, McClure was energetic, especially as he looked as if he had had a heavy night. Later movie appearances included Cannonball Run II (1983) and Omega Syndrome (1986). McClure has been regularly parodied as Troy McClure, an ageing star of the 1950s, in the television series The Simpsons. David Shipman Doug McClure, actor: born Glendale, California 11 May 1934; married three times; died Los Angeles 5 February 1995. Remembered and Missed.....

THROWBACKTHURSDAY: YVONNE FURNEAUX, was born today 11th May 1928. 'VERY mixed and elective' is probably the best qualificative that defines the career of Yvonne Furneaux, even though she always gave believable and  superb performances, her name and magical presence on screen, has sadly never earned her a more memorable place in the public memory.

YVONNE was born in Roubaix, in the North of France in 1928. She was immediately placed under the sign of bilingualism, her father being English and her mother French. As a result, once this alluring brunette had become an actress, she could as easily play in an English or a French film, which did not prevent her from being a regular in Italy and in West Germany, with a foray into Spain.

YVONNE FURNEAUX AND JOHN ERICSON IN 'SLAVE QUEEN OF BABYLON' (1963)

FURNEAUX has appeared in films noirs.... (Enough Rope (1963), The Champagne Murders (1967), sword & sandal movies (Slave Queen of Babylon (1963), The Lion of Thebes (1964) comedies (Temptation in the Summer Wind (1972) to chillers (Repulsion (1965)). The quality of her films, ranging from bombs (Frankenstein's Great Aunt Tillie (1984), mediocre run-of-the mill products (The Death Ray of Dr. Mabuse (1964) . . . and has sadly always read as an actor, who in every sense of the word was 'a working actor, an actor for hire.....but a very adaptable one! We celebrate here today for her connection to Peter Cushing as the beautiful Isobel Banning / Princess Ananka, in Hammer films, 'THE MUMMY (1959).

FURNEAUX is an actress who because of her eclectic body of work, is so often over-looked. From La Dolce Vita (1960) to Helen in 'Repulsion' (1965) to Princess Ananka in 'The Mummy'......Without a doubt, Yvonne Furneaux's work deserves to be remembered in our hearts as well as our heads.... Born Elisabeth Yvonne Scarcherd 11th May 1928. Happy Birthday Yvonne Furneaux!
