#MOREMONSTERMONDAY: ROGUE ONE COMES TO NETFLIX

#MONSTERMONDAY: If you didn't get the chance to catch #ROGUEONE at the flicks, but you do subscribe to #NETFLIX you might want to take a first, second or third (?) look at #ROGUEONE which has recently been added to their feature film menu! Like with the blu ray and the dvd, the #TARKIN CGI somehow looks a little smoother? If you get the time to watch. I'd love to hear your opinion on this... - Marcus

INVALID CAST : VINTAGE CORRESPONDENCE: KEEN GUSTAV AND DUBIOUS PRACTICES

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: 'There is more evil around us here than I have ever encountered before. . ' Certainly a line of dialogue to get the pulse racing. This image is taken from the BBC television series 'Sherlock Holmes' which starred Peter Cushing as Sherlock, the episode is 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' which was broadcast in two parts . . Gary Raymond picture here,  stars as Sir Henry Baskerville.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! THE WONDERFUL thing about researching and documenting Peter's life and work is, being such a prolific letter writer and note maker, he has left a paper trail, and every now and then, something interesting bobs to the surface!. Here are two  good examples. These are genuine letters of correspondence between members of the public who have written to Peter, wishing him well and requesting an autograph or photo. Cushing was very good at sending replies, and 9 out of ten times, also including an autograph on a photograph, even if it wasn't requested.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: I THINK if Gustav Weil from Hammer films 'Twins of Evil' was around today, he would certainly be a regular monthly winner of the 'EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH'. He certainly stuck to his job description, and wasn't happy until he and his band of the 'brotherhood' met their monthly quarter!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: THE PROGRAMME cast page from the 1951 production of THE GAY INVALID, lots of names that were soon to be house-hold names in the UK, along with Peter Cushing... there are also other performers names who have 'fantasy genre' connections on the big screen too. Can you spot them??

HOUSEKEEPING: If you are wondering were our Competitions have gone...worry not! I have an excellent COMPETITION for you THIS WEEKEND ! Also, for those of you who have spotted a fair ol scattering or typos, errors and mistakes in my jottings over the past three months, my apologies. I haven't lost my marbles, I am taking some elephant strength painkillers, following a wobble in health last year. I do try and check everything I write, but often it's difficult when the words and page are doing a tango and double vision at times, makes it a tricky exercise. I am ok, but please bare with me, normal service will continue very soon!

LATE GEOFFREY BAYLDON INTERVIEW STARTS VINTAGE SERIES!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: THOSE OF YOU WHO are old enough to remember the BLACK BOX CLUB AUDIO MAGAZINES of the 1980's, will no doubt also remember the great line up of interviews on audio tape and video that made up the series. Many of the guests were actors, directors, make up artists and producers who had worked with Peter Cushing, who were still working, sharp as a tack, and had great stories and anecdotes to share.

Some FORTY interviews were recorded for The Black Box Show over the ten years it was operational. Now all of the interviews, the raw tape, outtakes, jingles, sketches and are in the process of being remixed and digitized. We are shaking off the dust and cobwebs, and re-releasing the shows for a new audience, as well as those who were with us, the first time round!  The FIRST program will include an interview we recorded with the late Geoffrey Bayldon, recorded at his home, way back in 1988. Our second program will feature a UNRELEASED interview with Peter Cushing from 1980. You can also look forward to interviews with, actors Jeremy Brett, Edward Hardwicke, Michael Ripper, Vincent Price, Michael Gough, Ralph Bates, Judy Geeson, John Carradine, David Rintoul, actor-writer Terry Jones, Ingrid Pitt, director Terry Gilliam, Colin Baker, Tom Baker, Sophie Aldred, make up artist Roy Ashton, writers Brian Hayles and Gary Hopkins plus many, many others. The uploading of our first program as a POD CAST and YOUTUBE upload is scheduled for just a few weeks time. So, check out our PCAS sites for news and details!

SILENT BUT DEADLY : ANOTHER CRYPT LOAD OF GIFS FOR WEDNESDAY!

ANOTHER CRYPT LOAD of animated silent, but deadly, GIFS! As requested by you our dear and faithful readers and followers!

ABOVE AND BELOW for ERIC FRANKLYN two great GIFS from THE AVENGERS tv series. Peter Cushing appeared as the fiendish Paul Beresford in 'RETURN OF THE CYBERNAUT' in 1967. The very cool Patrick Macnee starred as very reliable STEED, and Diana Rigg as his female equal and partner, Mrs Peel. Stuntman Terry Richards, filled the Cybernaut's boots and hat! And below, Mrs Peel swishes in a red leather chair from the iconic title sequence!

NEXT UP a spot of shooting, not for the grouse season... but for the sake of science! PLEASE don't try this at home. Peter Cushing with a slightly 60's tailored looking Baron Frankenstein and Thorley Walters as his assistant, Dr Hertz in Frankenstein Created Woman, the latest of the Baron's adventures back in 1967. Walters REALLY does jump at the bang! Hope this makes you happy, Bradley Moore?

THE QUESTION WAS, 'Do You Have Any Footage of Christopher Lee, Behind The Scenes... Putting His Teeth In?' One of the weirdest questions we have been asked, and knowing that Lee didn't wear dentures...though PC DID have a plate with of ONE FRONT TOOTH (You heard it HERE first, Folks!) I am taking a stab that, NORA THOMAS is referring to, Lee's false FANGS used in his Hammer Dracula features? Fingers crossed, but not a cross in sight, as Christopher Lee add those two things, that make all the difference, on the set of Dracula AD 1972. I hope this makes you smile too, Nora?

HERE IS ANOTHER ONE from Dracula AD 1972, that since it's first appearance a few years ago, gets asked for quite often. It's the press launch for the film, and both Cushing and Lee were in attendance... and having a good time, by the looks on their faces! MARION NOLAN, you asked, we provided! Hope this makes your day, as you said it would!

HERE FOR OUR MATE, NICK DIGILIO AT WGN CHICAGO, what I am sure is HIS favorite GIF. Peter Cushing as Major Holly, strutting his funky moves on the dance floor of the local casba in Hammer films, SHE in 1965. They just don't make moves, like that anymore.....

THIS WONDERFULLY SUBTLE prologue is one of  of two great openers, that set the scene and signal to the audience, where they will be going over the next 90 minutes in Cushing's 1969 'Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed'. Here is one fellow, following a night at his gentleman's club or on the tiles, won't be waking up with a headache!  For FRED LEWIS, I hope this is the scene you were hinting at? Cushing did have a bit of a time of it with HEADS. One on a bed post in Frankenstein Created Woman, One in a  refrigerator in Corruption, Drilling one in THIS film later, as well as this head ended up being kicked around the lab! So, when you said, 'The Cushing film With That Head Scene, and the BLOOD' I would put a bet on it...this has to be it!

FINALLY, for FRANK NEAL something a little calmer, Christopher Lee as Sir Henry Baskerville, being caught doing a little eves dropping, by Andre Morell's Dr Watson, in Hammer films, 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' (1959) starring Peter Cushing as Holmes. The look on Lee's face here, is priceless!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: PICTUREGOER GARDENING AND HOUDINI!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: Peter and Helen Cushing's Garden at Seaway Cottage Whitstable. This walled garden was situated behind Peter and Helen's cottage. It was built on a piece of waste ground that was owned by PC's neighbour. The Cushing's purchased it and transformed it into a beautiful English garden. All stone work, including the wall was built using Kentish Rag stone. The garden, it's layout planned by Helen included, tress, a waterfall, a garage with a thatched roof, roses, shrubs and plants... Pictured here: Helen and Peter Cushing doing a spot of pruning! and Peter with his gardener, Fred Searle.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: A lovely wink to the fact that Peter Cushing wore carpet slippers during the shooting of his role as Tarkn in Star Wars in 1977 and a very cool portrait of Peter Cushing from artist Tom Hayburn

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: SUCH A TERRIBLE SHAME... Judi Moyens just got that ONE chance to shine. Being chased off onto the moors, the mud  . . . and then being murdered by the evil Sir Hugo Baskerville, she probably thought wasn't her finest moment, but I disagree... Judi's performance kicked off one the most popular cinema adaptions of the Sherlock Holmes stories, and she also made it to the much coveted front cover of what was then, the UK's most popular cinema magazine, Picturegoer!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: A PAGE from Peter Cushing's contract from the 1976 film, THE GREAT HOUDINI, where Cushing played a guest star role as, ironically Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Of course, Cushing bore no resemblance to Doyle at all, but I can see what they were thinking . . .

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: A great tie in to yesterday's #MONSTERMONDAY post, from 'Fear In The Night'  . . .  Here is a pretty cool publicity shot from that film, featuring Peter dinning in the 'school canteen'  . . . with a beautiful painting of Michael Carmichael looking over him. It's a very fine portrate, I often wonder what actually happened to it after the production wrapped?

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: SHARPS AND POINTS AND SHERLOCK!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing we know had a special friendship. There is much evidence of Lee's ability to have made Cushing crumple with with roars of laughter, just with the well timed twitch of his eyebrow.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: REQUESTED AND REPOSTED: Peter Cushing candidly snapped during his 80th Birthday celebrations at the home of Joyce and Bernard Broughton.
