WHY I WORE CARPET SLIPPERS WHEN I PLAYED TARKIN IN STAR WARS: IN HIS OWN WORDS: PETER CUSHING CLIP

WATCH PETER CUSHING EXPLAIN HIS
DIALIMA HERE

Now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is out and about...the features and news updates on the net have multiplied many fold...and many mention Peter Cushing...and if they mention Cushing, you can be sure, they'll churn-out the Tarkn Slippers story.

The first time I ever knew about, what is now the legendary tale of Peter wearing carpet slippers on the set of Star Wars when filming, was back in 1979, when I first met Dave Prowse, and he told me about Cushing having to wear those slippers...and why. I thought we had a bit of an exclusive and typed up the story in the Ten Fun Facts On Star Wars section in the revamped Peter Cushing Fan Club Journal for November 1979.

As usual sent I a copy to Peter Cushing and his secretary Joyce Brougton. After a few days, I received the customary letter from Joyce Brougton, thanking me for the latest journal, but pointing out that...' Sir, does not have a problem with his feet, and the fact that he wore carpet slippers during filming, I am sure it will be of little interest to your readers...' Well, Joyce it was and still is. And now, here from 1989 is Peter Cushing, for the first time, explaining the slipper saga himself...... I still have the letter by the way.

NEWS: ROGUE WARS TO FEATURE DIGITALLY RECREATED CUSHING GRAND MOFF TARKIN

NEWS: AS REPORTED IN MAIL ON SUNDAY TODAY : AUGUST 23RD 2015

As the grim-faced star of countless horror films including Dracula and Dr Frankenstein, Peter Cushing raised life from beyond the grave, But now the British actor, who died in 1994, will be raised from the dead himself.

Cushing, star of many Hammer House of Horror movies, will be digitally recreated in the new Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, which is being filmed at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and is due to be released late next year.

In the original 1977 Star Wars, Cushing played evil Grand Moff Tarkin, commander of the Death Star and 'boss' of Darth Vader. In the new film Cushing, who died of prostate cancer aged 81, will be painstakingly brought back to life using the latest Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) techniques.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: 'This is one of the most complex and costly CGI re-creations ever. Cushing is a pivotal plot line as he was the one to create Darth Vader and there's a whole back story that will come out.'

But the film-makers face one particularly tough task – creating Cushing's legs and feet.

When director George Lucas filmed the original Star Wars, he gave Cushing and other Galactic Imperial officers ill-fitting leather riding boots. Cushing complained so bitterly that Lucas let him wear slippers, forcing cameramen to shoot from the knees up or have him stand behind the Death Star conference table.

'They are going through hours and hours of old footage from the horror movies to recreate his legs and feet to produce realistic movements,' said the source. 'It is eerie to see someone who has been dead for so long come to life on a screen.'

CGI has been used before to complete movies when actors have died during production, including when Oliver Reed suffered a fatal heart attack while filming Russell Crowe's Gladiator in 1999.

TARKIN IS BACK! STAR WARS REBELS CALL TO ACTION

starwarsunderworld.com posts: TARKIN IS BACK! After having his name dropped several times in the premiere of Star Wars Rebels back in October, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin will be making his first appearance on the series next week. The episode "Call to Action" premieres on Disney XD next Monday February 9th, but was made available this morning to subscribers on the Watch Disney XD app.

The episode will see voice actor Stephen Stanton reprise the role after playing the character on several occasions in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The character first appeared in A New Hope back in 1977 and was played by the legendary actor Peter Cushing. The episode description reads, "As public awareness increases around the Rebels activity, they target an important Imperial network." How Tarkin fits into this is still unclear, but you can bet he's not too happy about what the crew of The Ghost have been up to for the past several episodes.

GRAND MOFF TARKIN GETS OWN BOOK FROM STAR WARS WRITER JAMES LUCENO!

This is long overdue. Giving the old fans what they've wanted for years. Seems Disney knows what they're doing. "In our second upcoming novel created in collaboration with the Lucasfilm Story Group, bestselling Star Wars veteran James Luceno gives Tarkin the Darth Plagueis treatment, bringing a legendary character from A New Hope to full, fascinating life."

This has been unveiled as part of the Star Wars fiction line: James Luceno's Star Wars: Tarkin (available November 4), delves into the life of the Empire's most notorious Grand Moff; Kevin Hearne's Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi (available January 2015), Luke Skywalker's first-person account of the events between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back; and Paul Kemp's Star Wars: Lords of the Sith (available March 2015), which finds Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader stranded on an inhospitable planet, where they must rely solely on each other, the Force, and their awesome martial skills to prevail.
