GETTHECUSHIONSUNDAY! PETER CUSHING AS MERRYWEATHER IN THE HELLFIRE CLUB

#GETTHECUSHIONSUNDAY! Today we feature a clip from a largely forgotten film The Hellfire Club (1961) Starring Keith Michell, Adrienne Corri and Peter Cushing based on the infamous 'Gentlemen's' society of the 18th century. It's often wrongly sighted as a Hammer Films production probably because the film was co-written by Jimmy Sangster and features Peter Cushing and other Hammer regulars Francis Matthews & Miles Malleson in small roles.

Directed by Robert S. Baker and Monty Berman who co-directed several films with scripts by Jimmy Sangster such as the horror/crime film Jack The Ripper (1959) and the historical drama film The Siege of Sidney Street (1960). A fun film while not entirely successful, it's a good swashbuckling adventure film. Is the film at hit or miss for you?

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY: SEE WHAT THEY DID THERE?

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY: The One that started it all! Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) examining an eyeball with his magnifying glass from Hammer's The Curse Of Frankenstein (1957) The first of many scenes though-out Peter's career that featured him looking though an magnifying glass. This scene was cut for the from the U.S print of the film but thankfully was found for the blu-ray release.

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! It wasn't long before, Subotsky and Rosenberg's Amicus films, got in on seeing the gimmick too, in THE SKULL (1965)

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! In Peter Cushing's last Frankenstein film for #HAMMERFILMS, the were quite a few visual nods to the first in the series, and of course one of the obvious ones, had to be . . . you guessed it, the magnifying glass shot.

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! :  . . . .It even jumped genre's to Cushing's Sherklock tv series for the BBC in 1969.

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! : Finally, with one of the last films that Peter Cushing appeared in, 'TOP SECRET' . . . the shot was given 'the treatment'!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: JONNY GILLARD DRACULA : PETER CUSHING PHANTOM!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: REALLY BEAUTIFUL work by JONNY GILLARD. You think? A sample of cinematic DRACULA, down the years. Schreck, Lugosi, Lee and Oldman. Who would you COUNT as the actor with the edge on the Prince of Darkness? As you will will probably know, I don't usually do this but, these prints are for sale and you can contact Jonny : HERE!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! PETER CUSHING WOULD HAVE been the first to admit, he couldn't hold a note without dropping and smashing it! But, PHANTOM? He would probably not have entertained the idea, and studios like Hammer Films saw his roles in a different way, but Redway and Booth, his agents might have gambled it...they weren't strangers to certain rogue casting, over the years. Gulp! But Cushing as The Phantom..! What do you think? I came across this surreal artwork a few days ago, I don't know the artist..shout if it IS yours, please. I will credit you or take it down, whichever floats your boat . .

I PERSONALLY THINK, Cushing had the sensitivity for the role . . . we forget he played in MANY love stories on stage, tv and cinema before Hammer arrived... Seriously though . . . Peter Cushing as The Phantom?

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! WIN THAT TARDIS!!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! I think just about EVERY Doctor Who fan at sometime, has wanted one. I remember as a kid, using my wardrobe as a #TARDIS. Everything was going well with me and my sister and the game...until my re-enacting of a meteor storm, toppled the wardrobe, where it fell forward, onto its door...with us inside! ...Don't try this at home, kids IF ONLY that whiz, Jason Onion and this #TARDIS had been around back then! It would have saved me a nose-bleed and my Sis, a black eye! NOW, Jason has made it so YOU don't have to go through such embarrassing shenanigans. You could be the owner of your VERY OWN TARDIS! WATCH the video and ALL will be revealed 🙂 Great work Jason!

#SILENTBUTDEADLY! GIFS REQUESTED BY YOU! PHIBES CLEGG SANTA AND ASYLUM!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY: YOUR REQUESTED GIFS, muted and monstrous! For Sam K. J. from N.J : This chuckle clip of Vincent Price with Valli Kemp from Dr Phibes Rises Again, in which Cushing had a very short whisper of a guest appearance, which is all the more frustrating considering he was approached to star in the FIRST PHIBES movie. Sticks in my throat every time I see this clip..a bit like this fish bone....! Great movie though . . .

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: THE REVEREND BLYSS, alias Captain Clegg, can not contain his contempt and laughter at the bumbling Excise Men. But they are...on his coat tails. 'Night Creatures / Captian Clegg (Hammer films) Requested by Tomas Griffiths.

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: AMICUS FILMS, sure did know how to tell a  good spine tingling short story, and this is one of them. "And All Through The House" is one of the tales presented in the portmanteau style of Amicus films, 'Tales from the Crypt', starring Joan Collins and Chloe Franks. I have seen both of the episodes in the TV series that contain remakes of this story. Even though they have all the more modern cinematic devices and bigger budgets, compared with Amicus films, tiny budget and tight deadline of 1972, I found them, personally ...not to be as effective. Any one else think that?? REQUESTED BY D.D. DEADMAN.

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: BARRY MORSE was a very adaptable actor, and here in Amicus films, 'ASYLUM' (1972) in a short story called 'The Weird Tailor', his poor and gentle of the title, was a very sensitive playing of a man tricked from his fee, but got a lot more than he bargained for. Appearing with Peter Cushing (Mr Smith)  you would never guess that their association and friendship went back years, before and after WW2. More, Cushing and his wife, Helen were once on board a bus in London, which narrowly escaped a stray German 'Doodle-Bug' bomb!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: AS CINEMA posters for Hammer films, 1958 'Dracula / Horror of Dracula, I think this one is pretty good... The work of illustrator and artist Hans Arnold.  Among his many credits is the cover to ABBA's Greatest Hits album and the Bland tomtar och troll books!  What do you think?
