#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY: SEE WHAT THEY DID THERE?

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY: The One that started it all! Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) examining an eyeball with his magnifying glass from Hammer's The Curse Of Frankenstein (1957) The first of many scenes though-out Peter's career that featured him looking though an magnifying glass. This scene was cut for the from the U.S print of the film but thankfully was found for the blu-ray release.

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! It wasn't long before, Subotsky and Rosenberg's Amicus films, got in on seeing the gimmick too, in THE SKULL (1965)

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! In Peter Cushing's last Frankenstein film for #HAMMERFILMS, the were quite a few visual nods to the first in the series, and of course one of the obvious ones, had to be . . . you guessed it, the magnifying glass shot.

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! :  . . . .It even jumped genre's to Cushing's Sherklock tv series for the BBC in 1969.

#FRANKENSTEINFRIDAY! : Finally, with one of the last films that Peter Cushing appeared in, 'TOP SECRET' . . . the shot was given 'the treatment'!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: JONNY GILLARD DRACULA : PETER CUSHING PHANTOM!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: REALLY BEAUTIFUL work by JONNY GILLARD. You think? A sample of cinematic DRACULA, down the years. Schreck, Lugosi, Lee and Oldman. Who would you COUNT as the actor with the edge on the Prince of Darkness? As you will will probably know, I don't usually do this but, these prints are for sale and you can contact Jonny : HERE!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! PETER CUSHING WOULD HAVE been the first to admit, he couldn't hold a note without dropping and smashing it! But, PHANTOM? He would probably not have entertained the idea, and studios like Hammer Films saw his roles in a different way, but Redway and Booth, his agents might have gambled it...they weren't strangers to certain rogue casting, over the years. Gulp! But Cushing as The Phantom..! What do you think? I came across this surreal artwork a few days ago, I don't know the artist..shout if it IS yours, please. I will credit you or take it down, whichever floats your boat . .

I PERSONALLY THINK, Cushing had the sensitivity for the role . . . we forget he played in MANY love stories on stage, tv and cinema before Hammer arrived... Seriously though . . . Peter Cushing as The Phantom?

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! WIN THAT TARDIS!!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! I think just about EVERY Doctor Who fan at sometime, has wanted one. I remember as a kid, using my wardrobe as a #TARDIS. Everything was going well with me and my sister and the game...until my re-enacting of a meteor storm, toppled the wardrobe, where it fell forward, onto its door...with us inside! ...Don't try this at home, kids IF ONLY that whiz, Jason Onion and this #TARDIS had been around back then! It would have saved me a nose-bleed and my Sis, a black eye! NOW, Jason has made it so YOU don't have to go through such embarrassing shenanigans. You could be the owner of your VERY OWN TARDIS! WATCH the video and ALL will be revealed 🙂 Great work Jason!

#SILENTBUTDEADLY! GIFS REQUESTED BY YOU! PHIBES CLEGG SANTA AND ASYLUM!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY: YOUR REQUESTED GIFS, muted and monstrous! For Sam K. J. from N.J : This chuckle clip of Vincent Price with Valli Kemp from Dr Phibes Rises Again, in which Cushing had a very short whisper of a guest appearance, which is all the more frustrating considering he was approached to star in the FIRST PHIBES movie. Sticks in my throat every time I see this clip..a bit like this fish bone....! Great movie though . . .

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: THE REVEREND BLYSS, alias Captain Clegg, can not contain his contempt and laughter at the bumbling Excise Men. But they are...on his coat tails. 'Night Creatures / Captian Clegg (Hammer films) Requested by Tomas Griffiths.

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: AMICUS FILMS, sure did know how to tell a  good spine tingling short story, and this is one of them. "And All Through The House" is one of the tales presented in the portmanteau style of Amicus films, 'Tales from the Crypt', starring Joan Collins and Chloe Franks. I have seen both of the episodes in the TV series that contain remakes of this story. Even though they have all the more modern cinematic devices and bigger budgets, compared with Amicus films, tiny budget and tight deadline of 1972, I found them, personally ...not to be as effective. Any one else think that?? REQUESTED BY D.D. DEADMAN.

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY!: BARRY MORSE was a very adaptable actor, and here in Amicus films, 'ASYLUM' (1972) in a short story called 'The Weird Tailor', his poor and gentle of the title, was a very sensitive playing of a man tricked from his fee, but got a lot more than he bargained for. Appearing with Peter Cushing (Mr Smith)  you would never guess that their association and friendship went back years, before and after WW2. More, Cushing and his wife, Helen were once on board a bus in London, which narrowly escaped a stray German 'Doodle-Bug' bomb!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: WARP SPEED TARKIN : THE ABBA DRACULA CONNECTION AND EERIE EYEBROWS!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY! AN AMAZING time lapse of the making of a small bust of Grand Moff Tarkin's head, as played by Peter Cushing . .. from clay. Original Video Here: HERE!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: A SPECIAL PAIR OF EYEBROWS, still around and looking just as awesome in a box, now owned by Make Up artist...and a PCAS member when he was a teenager, Dave Elsey. Dave won Best Makeup Oscar for 'The Wolfman; (2010) which he shared with Make up artist Rick Baker.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: AS CINEMA posters for Hammer films, 1958 'Dracula / Horror of Dracula, I think this one is pretty good... The work of illustrator and artist Hans Arnold.  Among his many credits is the cover to ABBA's Greatest Hits album and the Bland tomtar och troll books!  What do you think?

#MONSTERMONDAY! ANOTHER VINTAGE CUSHING AUTOGRAPH COMPETITION!

#GETTHECUSHIONITSCUSHINGSUNDAY! There were SO MANY entries last week when I did THE GHOUL autographed photograph prize... we had to have another go 🙂 THIS IS OPEN TO ANYONE . . GOOD LUCK EVERYONE. The DRAW will be SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 3rd 🙂 - Marcus

Peter Cushing as Major Holly and Bernard Cribbins as his foot man, Job in #Hammerfilms 'SHE' (1965)

Christopher Lee as Billali and John Richardson Leo, fight to the death
in #Hammerfilms 'SHE' (1965)

CUSHING'S MAJOR HOLLY inspects an ancient seal on a ring. Note how Cushing uses his left hand. For most of his adult life, the thumb of his left hand was missing a third of its nail! It wasn't unsightly, but PC did have a 'thing' about his hands and fingers when working. White gloves when smoking? See how often on screen, PC actually keeps this thumb away from the 'see-all' camera. It's thought that he started using his white smoking glove, just after making Hammer films, Dracula / Horror of Dracula in 1958. Next time you watch the film, take a look at the fingers on PC's left hand... clearly stained from tar while smoking . . .!

HERE IS ANOTHER photograph, this time in colour from the same photo session as the pic in our competition. It's interesting that Peter Cushing more often than  not, grew his own facial hair when playing a role that required that he wear a mustache or beard. This wasn't out of choice, but because he had a skin sensitivity to the glue or gum that was used by make up artists, to secure the hair!

JERRY LEWIS : FAN AND FRIEND TO CUSHING AND LEE DIES

Sad... right now, news agencies around the world, are announcing the passing of a director, an actor, comedian, singer....where do I stop.. Jerry Lewis. I am sharing this news with you, because there is a connection with Lewis, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Both Peter and Christopher did guest star spots in the film, 'One More Time', starring Sammy Davis jr.

ABOVE: Over the years, some of you may have seen this odd looking sign popping up on EBAY with a 'interesting' price tag attached to it? It is...the banner that #Jerrylewis had made up, to welcome both #PeterCushing and #ChristopherLee onto the set of the film, ONE MORE TIME, which #JerryLewis directed... in 1970.

JERRY LEWIS along with Sammy were big Hammer films fans and asked them to appear as Baron Frankenstein and Count Dracula..they did. Jerry Lewis treated Cushing and Lee as royalty during the short time they had with the film... but that's another story. A giant in the world of film, entertainment and charity. They will be talking about Lewis's story and his huge impact in all those fields, for a long time to come... RIP Jerry Lewis.

ON THE SET OF TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA AND HOW HE MET SHE : CHRISTOPHER AND GITTE

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY! A VERY neat short of RAW footage of Christopher Lee on the set of Hammer's Taste The Blood Of Dracula (1970) at Elstree Studios, UK.

ABOVE PROBABLY one of the worst cases of Cut and Paste in this Euro cinema poster for Taste the Blood of Dracula . . . hmm PASTE the Blood of Dracula, maybe?

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY! Just like Peter and Helen Cushing, they were inseparable . . . but do you know how they met?
