IF YOU EVER posted your much prized copy of Peter Cushing's second
autobiography, 'PAST FORGETTING' to him at his home in Whitstable in
1988 for him to sign, you may have been one of the lucky ones, to also
get a little extra! The printing run of the book unfortunately had a few
printers typo errors, on pages 92, 10 and 14 . . which when Peter was
signing your copy, he also took the time and trouble to correct those
errors, with his most unmistakeable fountain pen and handwriting. Here
is an example of those pages with his corrections. Quite a few of our followers at the the PCASUK Facebook Fan Page have posted on the thread of this post today, also telling us they too have found corrections on their signed copy . . bit only found it either today or quite recently! It's just as well he
isn't around to see some of MY regular typos hereat the website and on the PCAS Facebook
Page . . they would keep him very busy! Many thanks to my good friend, Linda King for sharing the pages of her copy!

ONE OF THE MANY GREAT things about managing the PCASUK facebook fan page
and website during the summer months, is the steady stream of
photographs and posts from the many of you who have taken a trip to
Whitstable, in Kent. As I am sure many of you know, Whitstable was the
home of Peter and his wife Helen, for many years. They LOVED the town
and it's residents. Peter was extremely fond of the walk way from his
sea side front door, along the front to what would one day become,
'Cushing's View'. It was a walk he would take most days, chatting and
meeting the public along the way. In 1990, Peter dedicated and donated, a
beautiful bench to the spot, where walkers and 'lovers' could sit and
take a rest, while taking in the sea air and sights. The bench was
installed, along with a brass plaque on it's back rest, 'Presented by
Peter and Helen Cushing who love Whitstable and its people very much' . .
.
SINCE 1990, the bench has been used,
photographed and adored by the public, tourists and ..fans. It never was
damaged, vandalised or abused...until September 2017, when someone
removed and stole the brass plaque. I received many enquiring, worried
emails and photographs, from visitors to this site. It was PCAS follower
David Perry, who managed to find out that it had been stolen, and the
good news that it was now in the safe hands of the Whitstable Museum and
it's volunteers..to be reinstalled . . .soon. I am very thankful for a
message and photograph from another PCAS follower, John Charles this
week that sadly shows the plaque still isn't back in place. It's summer,
Whitstable like the rest of the UK is enjoying a wonderful season. The
town is very busy with tourists and visitors, many ...sitting on that
bench! Many taking photographs of it. Personally, I have kept an eye on
the development of the repair. I have emailed, telephoned and contacted
the museum and local authority, since September last year. I know
budgets are tight, tasks are never ending, but . . thank you

1913.... Please join us in celebrating, leaving your comments and

WE
ARE SO LUCKY that Peter Cushing has left us such a large and varied
body of work, from his appearances on TV, his writing and of course his
film work. And if that wasn't enough,
the spirit of the man still echos in everything we do here. When alive,
Peter Cushing was so loved and respected. His acts of kindness are still
remembered by many who met, worked and knew him. They continue to
comment, write and share their stories here at our internet platforms.
And editing our content here, is a real joy, when it's always received
in the spirit of a man who made so many people happy, and left such an
impression on everyone he met.
ABOVE A TREAT for PETER'S BIRTHDAY TODAY . .. here is a NEW clip from our PCAS
video series, THE LAST MEETING, all made form the rare and candid video
footage that was filmed, when Peter and Christopher not only worked
together for the last time, but the last time they actually met before
Peters passing a short time later. Peter adored Christopher's company,
and this was a very special day for him, as he would hear all his
favourite stories, and jokes from his best friend... He was very very
happy this day. I hope you too, will smile while watching, what was a
very special friendship. With love from us all TODAY and every
day...Happy Birthday PETER!
PETER WILTON CUSHING was born on the morning of MONDAY 26th May 1913, at 'Ormandy', Godstone Road, Kenley, Surrey, UK...to father George Edward Cushing and mother, Nellie Maria Cushing. Peter's father was a quantity surveyor and Nellie was the daughter of a carpet merchant.
PETER WILTON CUSHING ' ...long curls, tied with a pink ribbon'. Aged just two in 1915. Little Peter had an elder brother, David, three years his senior. It appears that mother Nellie had her heart set on having a girl. 'Wanting 'one of each' she had mitigated any disappointment in my arrival by dressing me in girls frocks!', Cushing recalled..'allowing my hair to grow in long curls, tied with a pink ribbon. Eventually, 'father exerted his gentle authority' ... and Peter was more appropriately attired! .....All of that, began so long ago.

Maria Cushing, Father George Edward Cushing and a young Peter Cushing
at the top of the steps! This photograph was taken in the garden of 'Clearview', an
Art Deco house on St James Road, Purley, Surrey, Peter's father, a
quantity surveyor built the house in the year this photograph was taken,
1926.

ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS, it's no hardship, promoting and remembering a
gentleman, who is still so dearly loved..who always gets a positive
reaction. The fact that his name always gets a smile when mentioned is
part of and proof of an amazing legacy. So, lets blow out the candles,
raise a glass, celebrate and remember the smiles AND the frights!.....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PETER CUSHING.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! It's a nice touch, that when the new and rebooted AVENGERS came back to
TV, in the very first episode broadcast on the 17th October 1976, they
brought Peter Cushing along to help launch the new series. Cushing, had
of course appeared in the 1960's hey day series, in an episode entitled
'The Return of the Cybernauts' in 1967. Then, playing Paul Beresford, a
baddie through and through first time round, Cushing returns playing ,
Professor Maybach Von Claus, nice chap in an evil situation . .. In The
EAGLE'S NEST, Steed investigates the death of a colleague while Gambit
witnesses the kidnapping of Professor Von Claus. Purdey scuba dives to
the remote island of St. Dorca, where a monastery hides a secret and
Germany's greatest treasure.
TODAY IN THE TRUE SPIRIT of #TBT we take you back to FEBRUARY 17TH 1976, and the return of a gem from telly past, The Avengers, brushed down and polished, karate kicking and tea cup cup tilting, and ready for adeventures new with gentleman STEED, with two new companions. The inclusion of Joanna Lumley and Garethe Hunt, taking a little of an older, but just as iconic Steed, was a great idea, bring Peter Cushing along from the original AVENGERS series, was a master stroke!
#THROWBACKTHURSDAY!
Those of you who are big fans of the UK tv show, 'The Avengers' and
'The New Avengers' from the 60's and 70's, will probably know right
away, what this clip is about. For the rest of us well... In an episode
of 'THE NEW AVENGERS' called , "TARGET', our heroes Steed (Patrick
Macnee) Purdey (Joanna Lumley) and Gambit (Gareth Hunt) are being tested
on an ambush / gun assault -course- range (???) thing...! Presumably,
to check if their wits are sharp and they are still fit for the job??
THE ASSAULT RANGE is disguised as a small village, with a collection of
buildings and streets, with fake graffiti and road-signs and . . robot
assassins! There is also a 'police telephone box' which they blow up...!
Now, the writer of this episode is Dennis Spooner. Some believe the
inclusion of the box / tardis gave Spooner the opportunity for an
in-joke about a 'previous job', hint hint...as the police box is
spectacularly detonated at one point ! Rumour suggests this is the
actual TARDIS exterior from the Amicus Dalek movies. . . .what do you
think??
ABOVE YESTERDAY'S BANNER, an experiment to see if we could take an interactive post vote on facebook to see which Cushing Collectable Hi Res photographs. we most wanted to share. Sadly, facebook's practice of squashing any of our posts that contain links to platforms outside of the facebook domain, sabotaged what could have been a useful tool . However, the few that DID get to see the post, voted, and these are the two hi res stills, that were most popular with you! Top: A contact sheet of images from Hammer films, 'DRACULA ad 1972' and a striking colour portrait of Peter Cushing asGeneral von Spielsdorf, from THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970). Despite the setback this week,. we will continue with Cushing Collectors Wednesdays, and next week, there will be MORE rare images shared . . .!
TODAY MARKS WHAT would have been a very significant birthday in the life
of Peter Cushing...the birthdate of his wife, Helen. Peter never forgot
to mark anniversaries or special days with Helen, often making her
beautiful greetings cards, notes and..of course the silk scarves. He
never forgot her birthday, and neither shall we... so, in remembrance,
Happy Birthday Helen.
