COMMANDER SCAR DANGEROUS OLD DUFFER FROM FLORIDA OR COOL KEEPER OF AQUA ZOMBIES?

IT'S #MONSTERMONDAY, where we start the week looking into the souls of the poor unfortunates who give us the fright factor in some of Peter Cushing's most chilling cinema classics! This week, for those of you who managed to catch Cushing's performance in the 1977 under water zombie fest 'SHOCK WAVES' ..we ask you to consider the following...was his character SCAR, a Monster? A Murderer and all-round -World War II Bad Egg OR the sad remnant of a terrible time in world history, just left alone to rot along with those 'sea bobbin' zom-bods? OR is SCAR a totally first class chap and ahead of his time, bringing us the very first Nazi-zombie genre flick, the terrifying cinematic concept of underwater -all-swimming-all flesh-munching-aqua-zombies?? YOU decide!

MONSTERMONDAY : TALES FROM THE CRYPT : MONSTER NEIGHBOUR JAMES ELLIOTT

#‎monstermonday‬ This weeks candidate for monster Monday is James Elliot from Tales From The Crypt (1972) played by Robin Phillips proving that not all 'monsters' have to be of the supernatural kind.

ELLIOT BEGINS a campaign of hate to try and force Arthur Grimsdyke (Peter Cushing) to sell his house and move away, as he believes Grimsdyke is a blight on the neighbourhood, he pushes him to far and Grimsdyke commits suicide, however we all know that he finally gets his revenge on Elliot on Valentine's Day!

#MONSTERMONDAY: CHILL OUT! HE'S NOT A MONSTER REALLY! THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN

#‎MONSTERMONDAY‬: THIS WEEK, we are presenting a character from a Cushing film, that doesn't really deserve the hype of the movie poster or the reputation that this 'misunderstood' creature has gained. All I can say is, watch the movie! See for yourself, frightening to look at, yes... but the 'Snowman' is a wise creature...surely more wiser than the name we have given him...snow 'MAN'.

IN HAMMER FILMS 1959, 'The Abominable Snowman' Peter Cushing plays Dr John Rollason. He reprised Rollason having played the good doctor in the BBC drama of the same story, written by Nigel Kneale, entitled 'The Creature' in 1955. At this point in his career, Peter Cushing was best known as a television actor, having starred in the BBC productions of Pride and Prejudice (1952) and Beau Brummell (1954) ....as well as the Kneale production of 'Nineteen Eighty-Four', directed by Rudolph Cartier.

Here's a rare snap of Peter in the BBC drama 'The Creature' from 1955, with Brit actor Stanley Baker in the Tom Friend role, that would be played by Forrest Tucker in the Hammer version. . .

'SNOWMAN' was his second picture for Hammer films productions, the first had been 'The Curse of Frankenstein' directed by Terence Fisher and co starring Christopher Lee in 1957, it was the film that set the mold and would bring him international fame.

RECALLING how the cast and crew on 'Snowman' were entertained by Cushing's improvisation with props, director Val Guest said, “We used to call him 'Props Cushing', because he was forever coming out with props. When he was examining the Yeti tooth, he was pulling these things out totally unrehearsed and we found it very difficult keeping quiet” If you have yet to 'CATCH' The Abominable Snowman, you're in for a treat!

CHRISTOPHER LEE : MONSTER MONDAY : EMMA SAMMS AND FLYING CARPETS!

THIS WEEK'S ‪#‎MONSTERMONDAY‬ candidate comes from Joe Arnold who makes an interesting suggestion... a film that many forget about when listing the films in which Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee have both appeared in..alas not together, but it was great to have the treat of seeing those names in the cast credit.

COSTUME DESIGNER, Rosemary Burrows attends to Peter Cushing's costume during the making of ARABIAN ADVENTURE (1979) , pretty much the  same way she did on countless Hammer films,  over the past twenty years!

ALWAYS up for a giggle... Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing on the set of 'Arabian Adventure' (1979)

PETER CUSHING'S time may have been brief on the set on 'Arabian Adventure' ...but he managed to fit in a meeting with friend, Christopher Lee.

CHRISTOPHER LEE, OLIVER TOBIAS AND PETER CUSHING... 'I was working on a live tv programme in Bristol, way back in 1984 on which Oliver Tobias was a guest. He was really charming, made time afterwards to chat and had only good things to say about his memories of the few scenes he shot with Peter on Arabian Adventure...he mentioned the glove, which funny enough, is in the photograph of him with Peter and Christopher Lee on set'... - Marcus Brooks

A YOUNG EMMA SAMMS as Princess Zuleira  in Arabian Adventure in 1979, her very first film!

SO, 'ARABIAN ADVENTURE... Star Wars with Magic Carpets...the poster campaign claimed. Well, maybe not quite...but fun, just the same. The highlight is of course Lee's evil, Caliph Alquazar ...who banishes, Cushing's Wazir Al Wuzara to the dungeons... I wont give away anything else, as this is one many have not seen . But remember, 'It's for the KIDS!' No blood, no gore...nothing too disturbing, but with Emma Samms, Mickey Rooney and Oliver Tobias, it's worth a view and Lee's Caliph Alquazar , a MONSTER and a Tyrant.??..You decide ...

JUST ONE LAST behind the scenes photograph from 'ARABIAN ADVENTURE'   this time with director, Kevin Conner joining the photo op. Lee making this film marked the first time he had returned to a British studio to work for over two years,  'Arabian Adventure' also gave him his first 'baddie' role in almost eleven years! I chose this pic more so though, for that look on Peter Cushing's face....

MONSTERMONDAY: WANDA VENTHAM PETER CUSHING: COMPETITON SCREENBOUND PRIZES!

This week's ‪#‎monstermonday‬ features WANDA VENTHAM as the 'terror' factor of the title, 'The Blood Beast Terror'. It's an interesting film, with a monster that never truly gets the screen time or during production, the money invested in its look! The film also features a performance from our man that often gets overlooked. His Detective Inspector Quennell has some very nice touches, and Cushing slips in some lovely black comedy. Robert Flemyng steps in for a absent Basil Rathbone, and Vanessa Howard makes a great naive teenage daughter, for PC, wide eyed and fluttering lashes...and talking of fluttering, without giving too much away, Wanda's Death Head moth, isn’t that bad, I have seen much worse.

So, a performance from PC that's definitely worth a watch, good supporting cast...and the monster? The jury is still out on that one. What do you think?

Earlier today, launched our competiton on facebook and here at the website.  You can now try your luck at winning your very own #SCREENBOUND blu ray or dvd remastered release of the film. HERE is the competiton, if you have missed it. It closes MONDAY 8th MAY 2016 at MIDNIGHT!

BOBBING ZOMBIES AND KUNG FU VAMPIRES: ITS MONSTERMONDAY

MONDAY here at PCAS means one thing... ‪#‎monstermonday‬, our weekly spot where we celebrate the scary, sinister and down right terrifying Monsters and all things that creep, that have been featured in Peter Cushing's film and tv work.. TODAY here on the website and at our facebook page, we take a close look...not TOO close, at those fanged kung fu frighteners from Peter Cushing's 'The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires'.

One of the great things about Cushing's 'THE LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES' is the 'double-monster' value. Not only do you get the Seven Deadly Kung Fu Vampires but also, The Zombies!

At first sight, the hoping bobbing skipping undead seem a very strange sight.. it's only after you see them on mass, doing their odd bob...like all things asian-horror, it starts to look more than a little slightly warped and psycho-twisted. A great idea, an interesting angle on Vampires, Dracula AND Kung Fu...and Peter Cushing as the all fighting, fearless, Van Helsing vampire hunter!

Here Hammer's Kung Fu Undead echo another famous 'zombie scene' from ten years before in 'THE PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES'. Again, the dead are awake and walking...this time in China and Van Helsing and Dracula are along for the ride too!
