REMEMBERING CARRIE FISHER PLUS THE MOMENT TARKIN HIT A TONGUE-TWISTER!

TODAY, WE ARE REMEMBERING  on her birthday the lovely Carrie Fisher a woman, who was never dull, touched all she met, was a mountain of energy and fun and yet sadly, like many of us, carried another life, that sometimes worked against her, making even the sunniest of days, dark and exhausting. Many here of course will know her connection to Peter Cushing, through the movie, STAR WARS

WITH CUSHING playing the evil TARKIN and Carrie the vulnerable PRINCESS LEIA Tarkin, together they played a key scene, with Peter cranking up his performance, as the cruel and most Machiavellian of characters in the Star Wars universe. Carrie later shared how difficult it had been for her to find the motivation, to hate Peter's Tarkin. She too, like many before her, had been charmed and moved, by his kindness and manner on set, it was quite a task to actually say those lines. Even though she left us a wonderful library of work on screen and on the page, it's a weird feeling, knowing, she isn't around to cheer us up and make us laugh in her interviews. As a teen she was my first crush, she dazzled and shone very brightly . . on screen and in life, a real Princess! 😊 We remember Carrie today . ..

REMEMBERING MAX J ROSENBERG AND A HAMMER FILM PREMEIR!

REMEMBERING: Max J. Rosenberg (September 13, 1914 – June 14, 2004) Rosenberg was an American film producer, whose career spanned six decades. He was particularly noted for his partnership with co founder of Amicus films, Milton Subotsky who both found much of their success while working in England, producing #supernatural and fantasy cinema, many of which starred #PeterCushing and #ChristopherLee. Max was a clever businessman, Subotsky was the brains and imagination behind what was for most part, the only true competitor of the UK based #Hammerfilms. Sadly, the business partnership soured, then court and libel cases strangled the whole thing to death...a climax worthy of any Amicus film's big finish!

YOU CAN FIND OUR MORE about MILTON SUBOTSKY AND MAX ROSENBERG and AMICUS FILMS in our PCAS feature and REVIEW of THE UNCANNY RIGHT HERE

Schell was in attendence while working on Hammer's other film at this time, #MOONZEROTWO!

SIR CHRISTOPHER LEE REMEMBERED TODAY : FROM 2O15 FOUR YEARS ON . .

SIR CHRISTOPHER LEE remembered today. Four years on . . . It's still a little strange how there still isn't an official CHRISTOPHER LEE fan site on the net. Before his passing, there was an official site, that had slowed down, then a week after Lee's death, was closed to any updates and carried a banner of, being remodeled to re-appear soon. We are still waiting. Just two weeks ago, during the week of both Lee's and Cushing's birthday anniversaries, we shared the news of Lady Birgit Lee, donating several personal scrapbooks of rare photographs and clippings, from Sir Lee's archive to the British Film Institute.

MORE ON THE CHRISTOPHER LEE SCRAPBOOKS HERE!

IN THE MEANTIME, I try to share something related, if only by a Cushing post. Plus we do have a Christopher Lee theme EVERY Saturday here! Posts about Christopher Lee here and at our PCAS Facebook Fan Page are always well received and supported. There are always lots of comments and text from followers and members, who still miss his presence and regularly watch the wealth of work, that we can always enjoy . . . in memory of one of the greatest!

REMEMBERING : CARRIE FISHER SHINES ON

IT SEEMED, quite surreal last year writing this, and even more so, today . . . TWO years on. Today, I am sure many Star Wars fans and lovers of Carrie's work will be feeling the same, sharing posts and photographs of a woman, who was never dull, touched all she met, was a mountain of energy and fun and yet sadly, like many of us, carried another life, that sometimes worked against her, making even the sunniest of days, dark and exhausting. On December 27th 2016, the day we lost CARRIE FISHER, the shock rippled around the world, and I am sure today, many will again feel that disbelief. Many here of course will know her connection to Peter Cushing, through the movie, STAR WARS.

REMEMBERING NIGEL GREEN : THE SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST AND THE SKULL

TODAY we are marking the passing of that fine English character actor NIGEL GREEN . . . Green left us at only 47 years of age, with a very impressive career already at that point. In our banner can be seen on the far right, in a little get together on the set of the cast of Amicus films THE SKULL (1965) with Peter, Patrick Wymark far left, Patrick Magee sat down on the right. Green had a small role of Inspector Wilson, in the film. Because of his strapping build and commanding height, (6 feet, 1 inch) & regimental demeanour he would often be found playing military types and men of action, in films such as Jason and the Argonauts, Zulu, Tobruk and The Ipcress File.

HIS LARGE physique also led to his being cast as Little John in Hammer films THE SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST (1960), with Peter Cushing. Green also appeared in a number of horror films including Corridors of Blood (1958), The Masque of the Red Death (1964), as the father of Jane Asher's character, The Skull (1965) also with Cushing Let's Kill Uncle (1966) and COUNTESS DRACULA (1971).

DENHOLM ELLIOTT : DRACULA AMICUS AND SO MUCH MORE

REMEMBERING today.. Denholm Elliott, who we sadly lost on this day in 1992. A long and fascinating career, with which seems to have cross just about every genre, he even had some time to stop off and appear in one of the best portmanteau Amicus films with Peter Cushing in 1971. What are some of your favorite Ellliott performances?

TRIVIA: NOT MANY CAN REMEMBER THAT DENHOLM ELLIOTT, once played DRACULA, in a Thames television production, back in 1968!

REMEMBERING VALERIE GAUNT TODAY : CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN

REMEMBERING Today we remember Valerie Gaunt. VALERIE'S short career on the big screen featured only in two films, and they were along side Peter Cushing. Just two roles, but they left a lasting impact, that would outlast many longer career! Her playing of Justine in 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1957) and her performance in Hammer films,1958 'Dracula' hold a special place for lovers of fantasy cinema. Born Valerie Shelia Gaunt, on the 9th July 1932 in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, England, following an interest in amateur theater, after leaving school embarked on a career as a model, before auditioning for Hammer and landing her first professional role in 1957. Gaunt married her husband Gerald Alfred Reddington on May 17th, 1958.

PETER CUSHING'S role in the clip above is short, but matters!

VALERIE GAUNT passed away, aged 84 after a short illness in November 2016.

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAYS! HOW I REMEMBER PETER

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY: Beloved is how Christopher Lee describes his old friend, Peter Cushing in this clip from 1996. This was only two years since Peter's passing and was one of the first times that Lee spoke about his feelings in public ...

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY! Here is a requested pic for Sammy Watts of the UK.. a pic of Christopher and Birgit Lee out on the town. I will say this for Lee, old age didn't hold him back from traveling. Just up to a few weeks before his passing, he was all over Europe, going to charity events, film festivals and galleries. It's great to see them both so happy here . .

REMEMBERING SHELIA KEITH

TODAY WE REMEMBER British character actress SHELIA KEITH, whose career spanned nearly 40 Years. She made a number of appearances in British TV programmes during the 60's and 70's. However, she is perhaps best known for her frequent collaborations with horror director, Pete Walker who she worked with in FIVE FILMS!

IN HER OBITUARY, The Times described her as an "Actress of film, stage and television who became a ‘British horror icon’"...... It was with her portrayal of sinister, sadistic and deranged women in the horror movies of the director Pete Walker, that she acquired her most devoted following"

KEITH CO STARRED with Peter Cushing in 'The House Of The Long Shadows ' (1983) as Victoria Grisbane, daughter to John Carradine's, Lord Elijah Grisbane sister to Vincent Price and Peter Cushing. She was Pete Walker's first choice when veteran, Elsa Lanchester was thought too frail to travel to the UK and work in the film.
