TRAILER: THE DOCUMENTARY THAT EVERY AMICUS FAN SHOULD OWN

Once in a while a book or documentary arrives that sets a new bench mark. This can easily be said about Donald Fearney's latest release, AMICUS : THE VAULT OF HORROR dvd. In recent years, we have seen two Amicus documentaries, both fell at the post, either through pretty poor production values or more than a little sparse in their materials. With a duration of 146 minutes, Fearney uses every minute of this time, to tell the full story of the only real competition to the prolific Hammer films, during their reign of terror, from the early 1960's until the late 70's. It would have been all too easy to have covered the main stream and more popular titles, the portmanteau films, the two Dr Who films and even the buzzingly awful 'The Deadly Bees' from 1966  or the cash strapped, 'The Terrornauts' (1967). But, Fearney really set himself a task in covering EVERY film. From 'The Birthday Party' until the parting if the ways with 'At The Earth's Core' in 1976.

Celebrating the legendary partnership of Milton Subotsky and Max J. Rosenberg and their production company, ‪#‎amicusproductions‬, who along with ‪#‎Hammerfilms‬ dominated the horror film genre between the 1960's and 1970's.

Prominent for producing many portmanteau films such as, ‪#‎drterrorshouseofhorrors‬ ‪#‎talesfromthecrypt‬ and ‪#‎frombeyondthegrave‬ , Subotsky and Rosenberg also produced two ‪#‎doctorwho‬ film, a couple of low budget sci-fi movies, the psychological thriller ‪#‎thepsychopath‬ and three movies based on the ‪#‎edgarriceburroughs‬ stories.

#‎amicus‬ like #hammerfilms were appealing to top actors, writers, producers and directors who gave the films a seal of quality. The films also featured actors like ‪#‎petercushing‬ ‪#‎christopherlee‬ ‪#‎davidwarner‬ ‪#‎vincentprice‬ and many other established names and faces from the world of film and television. Narrated by ‪#‎royhudd‬ and featuring new interviews, rare footage and packed with rare production stills and publicity materials, this is a ‪#‎horrorfilm‬ enthusiast dream ticket! So, sit down, turn down the lights and prepare to witness, Amicus : Vault of Horrors.

DVD Running time : 146 minutes

WARNER BROTHERS CLASSIC HORROR HAMMER BLU RAY BOX SET COMPETITION

COMPETITION NOW CLOSED! SEE WINNERS AT BOTTOM OF THIS FEATURE!

Just a reminder that our competition where you can win yourself one of two complete blu ray box sets of HORROR CLASSICS from Warner Brothers is still open, but closes on WEDNESDAY 14th OCT at midnight! The competition is running here on petercushingappreciationsociety.com, the peter cushing appreciation society facebook fan page and our website theblackboxclub.com. Also you can purchase your set or the individual releases from here at AMAZON

Here also is my review of the box set, should you want to check out it's spec first :) It's a rarity among vintage releases these days... Truly, it's faultless!

"All the films in this package, technically are flawless. All four movies have been remastered in 1080p and are presented in their original aspect ratios.THE MUMMY in 1.66:1, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, Dracula Has Risen From The Grave and Taste The Blood Of Dracula in 1.85:1. With each film you'll be very happy to discover there no print drop outs or blemishes anywhere to be seen, the colour and contrast is solid and each film has an amazing detail, like you would never have seen in any of these films previous releases.

As with, Warner's dvd release of TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA, the blu-ray here restores over four minutes of footage that was originally removed from the U.S. theatrical print and the previous VHS release too. Where TASTE was originally rated GP, according it has now been given an R rating.

The reinstated scenes are as follows: The shots of Dracula's blood changing to powder in the prologue; there is also extended shots in the brothel scenes, including a snake charmer's dance shot and some topless nudity, the violent beating of Ralph Bate's, Lord Courtley is extended, and; Dracula's violent, snarling attack on a female victim. Also, all the major death scenes have some extended footage, including more glimpses of Christopher Lee's writhing Dracula!

The HORROR CLASSICS package also includes a complete and uncut version of FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED. The notorious rape scene that was originally snipped from all U.S. versions, is now back. In line with visuals of the films in this package, I am pleased to say, the English audio tracks (DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0) are also perfect!

Each film also comes complete with additional French, and Spanish (both Castilian and Latin) language tracks with optional English SDH, French, Spanish (both Castilian and Latin) subtitles. In addition, both DRACULA films include German audio tracks and German subtitles. Each film comes with its original theatrical trailer.

The outstanding quality of this box set from it's presentation packaging to the over all quality of the films themselves, puts this release way above any previous releases of the titles and would be a fantastic addition to any collectors or Hammer fans film library! Well Done WARNER!

AMICUS VAULT OF HORRORS DVD: DONALD FEARNEY'S DEFINITIVE DOCUMENTARY ON THE WORKS OF SUBOTSKY AND ROSENBERG

Here's an exclusive for you! You remember Donald Fearney's EXCLUSIVE AMICUS BOOK we shared with you earlier this year, and the news that the book would be followed up with a documentary on Amicus from Donald also??? Well, the good news is, IT'S HERE! Or rather, it's at the LONDON FILM CONVENTION Westminster on Saturday November 14th 2015! This eagerly anticipated documentary goes on sale at the convention for the first time on this day and it's expected that business will be BRISK!

'Milton Subotsky's and Max Rosenberg's Amicus Vault of Horrors, promises to be the definitive works on Amicus. Over two hours in duration, covering every film that Amicus produced, packed with rare footage, photographs, interviews and limited to only 500 copies. One of the highlights is an interview with Milton Subotsky, never before seen, that PCAS shot in 1981. Among those interviewed are David Warner, Geoffrey Bayldon, Linda Hayden, Caroline Munro and many others. The narration is provided by Roy Hudd.

The price for the dvd purchased at the convention is £15.00. We will have FOUR copies up for grabs in a competition here on our page and website on November 14th too! You will also be able to purchase copies through PCAS in the near future during November. The dvd is region 0. This means it can be played on any dvd player...in any country! Here's a first draft of the cover, which cleverly reproduces the cover style of the comic stories that provided the background for many of the Amicus very popular portmanteau films, like Tales from the Crypt, Dr Terrors House of Horrors and Vault of Horror. It's a rare pic of the two lads too, not often seen and quite shy of the camera. And there's lots more where that came from. All on the DVD!

So, if you are planning to attend the London Film Convention on November 14th, do pop along and see Donald at his stand and grab yourself a copy, and say hello! He'll be pleased to see you!

THE FINAL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE : THE DRACULA AD DAILY MIRROR PHOTO SESSION

ALSO NOT LINDA HAYDEN: #throwbackthursday You may have caught the little bit of detective work on finding the name behind the ..er..face of the actress who featured prominently in the 'Daily Mirror Dracula AD 1972' shots we posted on Tuesday..and her recentely being mistaken for Linda Hayden. I knew that wasn't the end of it, because there was another face that some, also thought was Linda Hayden too. So she too had to be identified.... And ironically, she also appeared briefly in #draculaad1972.

I must admit she wasn't that hard to find, but the work came in closely (!) examining those shots. So, I can reveal the 'other' in the Daily Mirror shots was.... the model popularly known then, and today as Flanagan. Maureen Flanagan was born in 1941, in Islington, London. She started work in a hairdressers at 15, and was spotted by a photographer when 18 at a 'hairdressers convention' where she'd been asked to model. The photographer showed the pics to an agent, who suggested she model on the catwalk. Maureen became a very much in demand model for all the top fashion houses & stores in the UK. In her 20's, she was known as the most photographed model in Britain and her legs were insured for £25,000.

Her connection also with the tabloid newspapers, kept her in the public eye...she was a known face., that was why Hammer films featured her in the film...and later in the publicity Daily Mirror pics. So the pics: 1) In this, Dracula AD 1972 lobby card image, Flanagan lets rip with her funky seventies strut on top of the party piano next to, Johnny Alucard himself, Christopher Neame. 2) Our originally posted contact pics from the Daily Mirror Newspaper session with Christopher Lee and Glenda Allen. 3) A close up of Flanagan..taken from the Daily Mirror shots.

Flanagan went to become good friends with footballer, George Best, Malcolm Allison, 'Carry On' actress, Barbara Windsor and went onto work with Tony Curtis, Roger Moore, Charlton Heston and featured in shows such as, The Benny Hill, Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Dave Allen Show, The Likely Lads and Only Fools & Horses...

She is currently an acknowledged expert on the lives of the Kray Twins and their family, having been a close friend to the Twins and their brother, George..and mother Violet's, hairdresser...!

Dracula AD 1972 Daily Mirror Photo Session

DAILY MIRROR DRACULA AD PHOTO SHOOT : WHO IS THAT GIRL?

For those who have been following the 'Linda-Hayden-Mistakenly-Autographs-A-Photograph-That-isn't-Her-At- A-Signing-Session!' saga... and that then unfolding into 'So-If-Isn't-Linda Hayden-Who-Is-it?' question...I think we may have the answer..

She is an actress-model who appeared uncredited in #hammerfilms Dracula AD 1972, has been for many years mistakenly credited in magazines and certain blogs as 'Flanagan'. She is in fact, actress-model GLENDA ALLEN. And it is her who appears in the recently emerged photograph that is causing the faff...

Born in Norfolk in 1951, Glenda launched herself into a career of dancing, modelling and acting soon after leaving school. Regular appearances in the red top newspapers...modeling, soon brought her to the attention of tv and film casting agencies...her face and other 'bits and bobs' soon became very well known. So well known enough for Hammer to cast her in the party scene in Dracula AD 1972...and in an after production promotion/publicity shoot. This publicity shoot, was commissioned for inclusion in a 'Daily Mirror' newspaper Halloween feature..the shoot would also included the star of Dracula AD 1972....Christopher Lee....Peter Cushing was probably 'unavailable'. Lee wasn't happy....but that's another story. The pics taken on the day, had to meet the remit of said newspaper, that is, the models had to be semi naked.. Allen no stranger to the art of revealing ones 'bowlers'... so was an obvious choice, she of course appears as 'dancing girl standing on the piano' in the film!

So, the pics: 1) Her hippy party girl shot with Christopher Lee for the Daily Mirror newspaper shoot. 2) Glenda as dancing girl on right in Dracula AD 1972. 3) One of the Daily Mirror photographs, mistakenly signed by Linda Hayden. 4) Glenda featured in one of photo shoot contact prints... part of the Christopher Lee Daily Mirror session. 5) A well known publicity shot of Glenda on set on Dracula AD 1972. This shot is usually credited to 'Flanagan'. 6) Glenda as she appeared in 13 episodes of 'Space 1999', sometimes also playing the role of an unnamed nurse.

In the contact prints I have previously posted, you can see she is prominently placed in the foreground of nearly all the shots, because of her Dracula AD connection...along with someone else. Because, as Yoda once famously said..'There IS another' Who that is, I'll reveal shortly.....
