DIRECTOR HOUGH CREATES A HAMMER LIKE NO OTHER WITH TERROR TWINS!

BACK IN THE EARLY 1970's mankind made some very interesting and surprising break throughs, technical and domestic... In 1972, interactive games with vastly more primitive graphics only existed in laboratories, until the invention of PONG! Remember that? 1970 brought pocket calculators to students, engineers, and scientists the world over! 1971 brought us something that was huge in terms of its impact, the Intel 4004 Microprocessor! 1973 gave us the first cell phone, the XEROX ALTO, also TCP, Ethernet and fibre optics!

ALL THIS . . but for some reason Hammer films just couldn't NAIL a new and entertaining idea, that worked on the big screen. My opinion, but something I never understood! But that was until... John Hough's 'Twins of Evil' which cast not only Peter Cushing in a new spin on the Vampire Killer, but also someone who wasn't even trying to copy or replace Christopher Lee as a the head and evil 'toothful-one', Damien Thomas made a great Count Karnstein. Denis Price added some casting clout briefly and two sweet, though not innocent Maltese actresses / models Mary and Madeleine Collinson shapely slipped into the shoes of the title twins with ease. It was director John Hough, who brought the whole lot together in a very refreshing way. With Tudor Gates twist on some Sheridan Le Fanu influences, Harry Robertson's outstanding music score and Dick Bush and his beautiful cinematography, Hammer had an original tale that looked great, sounded wonderful and still impresses.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! PETER GOES POP!

IT'S A QUICKY RELEASE tie-in song, for the movie, 'Biggles', Cushing's last theatrically released movie in 1986. It's also now very dated. It's corny. It's annoying synth rock from the 80's. But Cushing strolling through shots, is something certainly different, and the pay-off ending is worth the wait. Whatever, it isn't as bad as the ill-advised DIY RAP video for Cushing's 'No White Peaks'. A hastily cobbled together 2 and half mins of our chap, dressed in gold-chain, bling and baseball hat akimbo, shot in someones back yard, was a mistake and did no one any favors . .

THE THEME FROM BIGGLES: AN ADVENTURE IN TIME (1986) adventure film directed by John Hough and later released in 1988 in the United States as 'Biggles: Adventures in Time'. The plot involves a time traveler from the 1980s who is inserted into World War I to help the character Biggles from the series of novels by W. E. Johns and where Biggles also travels to the 1980s to save his new friend. The film stars Neil Dickson, Alex Hyde-White, and Peter Cushing in his final feature film role. Other songs that appear in the film include: Jon Anderson – "Chocks Away", Deep Purple "Knocking at Your Back Door". Mötley Crüe – "Knock 'Em Dead, Kid" and The Immortals – "No Turning Back" (featuring John Deacon in his only non-Queen recording).

AS WELL AS Music video promotion for the film the UK comic THE EAGLE ran a series of promo ads in it's pages. Sponsored by the good ol ABC cinema chain !

#MONSTERMONDAY WITH GIFS : COUNT KARNSTEIN FROM TWINS OF EVIL : DAMIEN THOMAS

THIS WEEKS' #MONSTERMONDAY features COUNT KARNSTEIN here at the website AND at our PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE . KARNSTEIN  excellently played by Damien Thomas, in his one and only Hammer appearance,  is a character from the long family line that features in LUST FOR A VAMPIRE (1971) THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970) and TWINS OF EVIL (1971). Damien really pulled out the stops to give Hammer another 'vampire Count' to add to their catalogue. And the producers, Harry Fine and Michael Style cast Peter Cushing as a worthy vampire hunter, to balance the mix.
