#THROWBACKTHURSDAY!
Peter Cushing OUT ON THE TOWN in 1987, along with his personal
secretary and friend, Joyce Broughton and Husband, Bernard. It's an
opening night of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Phantom of the Opera' in August
1987. Just a few years before, this would have been quite impossible for
Cushing, still in the grips, of what Joyce would later call his 'Blue
Period'. The loss of his wife, Helen Cushing never truly left Cushing's
mind, but during the last eight years of his life and after his
retirement , he did live life to fullest! Theatre, writing, charity
marathon walking, appearing on chat shows and even enjoying 'dips' in
the sea, just outside his front door in Whitstable once again!

MILK SHERLOCK AND LOTS OF SCREAMING AND HONG KONG! IT HAS TO BE GIFS WEDNESDAY!
IF I HAD A DOLLAR BILL or a pound coin for everytime that PETER CUSHING looked through a MAGNIFYING GLASS in a film or TV drama, I would be a wealthy man! This one is from the BBC SHERLOCK HOLMES series that Cushing starred in the late 1960's. I wonder if you could guess, which classic DOYLE SHERLOCK story this is? REQUESTED by ANNA MILES NY USA.
THE AMICUS FILMS, 'AND NOW, THE SCREAMING STARTS' to be quite frank, is one of my least favorite AMICUS / CUSHING films. To me, the script seems to wander, the horror ellements too, I find a little bad taste, and CUSHING sadly has little to do. If there is a moment, that does anything, it's that pretty dramatic scene with Peter and IAN OLGIVY in the cemetery, during a terrible storm. This was the only time AMICUS produced a GHOST story and also a period film. They certainly got the LOOK right, but the story, aint my kinda of thing. Here STEPHANIE (DRACULA AD 1972 ) BEACHAM as the newly married Catherine Fengriffen, looses her cool on the portrait of Henry Fengriffen played by HERBERT LOM. REQUESTED by AMANDA POOLE, Leeds, UK.
PART FIVE of our AMICUS FILMS OF PETER CUSHING has a great selection of rare stills from AND NOW THE SCREAMING STARTS : You will find it HERE!
SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN, WAS NOT AMICUS films, first venture into the world of SCI-FI CINEMA. Though this film, is never really sure, in WHICH genre it's sitting. I think that is one of the reasons why, many enjoy the film so much. It's reputation and following has really climbed in the last ten years, with a super dooper BLU RAY from TWLIGHT TIME back in 2013, giving it the treament and good extras. VINCENT PRICE and CHRISTOPHER LEE are great, Mr P having more screen time, and a wonderful exit! CUSHING'S role is brief as this film also stands as a very good example of how producer SUBOTSKY used his, 'stack those stars in the film and hire them for a limited time!' . . it all paid off when their names were on the bills and the marquees! REQUESTED by MIDGE ILLINOIS USA.
OUR FULL FEATURE AND RARE GALLERY on SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN can be found at this website BY SIMPLY CLICKING HERE!
IF I AM LOOKING FOR A FUN PETER CUSHING FILM with a BIT OF BITE, on for a late night view, this is the one that nearly always hits the player! Personally, I think JOHN FORBES-ROBERTSON did a good job as DRACULA, considering what he was dealing with. LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES despite being made by HAMMER FILMS, has very little in common with other films from the company. The film was a joint two film venture with, Shaw Brothers of Hong Kong. Their Horror and Supernatural films were presented in quite a highly stylised fashion, quite unique to the cinema of the country and culture. Many criticise the appearance and make up of Forbes-Robertson's DRACULA, unware that the almost 'phantom-demon' look to his face, is very much in keeping with what most vamps looked like in Hong Kong Horror Cinema of the 60's and 70's. Same too for the crumbling effects of the vampires, when they were killed. It ALL was in the flavour, of ASIAN CINEMA. The second film which Shaw made with Hammer films, also starred Cushing, was called CALL HIM MR SHATTER with STUART WHITMAN, as the star. BOTH are pretty neat films, entertaining too. A great pity Hammer never went on to make the other films, they had planned with Shaw Brothers...BELOW a lovely UK MILK MARKETING BOARD film, pushing the use of MILK on the set of the film, in a style only the 1970's cinema adverts, could do! CHRISTMAS EVE :CHRISTOPHER LEE A GHOST STORY FOR CHRISTMAS
CHRISTMAS EVE IS HERE, at last! And maybe for some of you, the shopping, the cooking, the preparation is now over. I DO hope so! If not, put this little post in your bookmark, for later. Preferably a time, when it's quiet. Switch off the lights, settle in and prepare yourself, for that OTHER great Christmas tradition . .. The Christmas Ghost Story. I've especially picked this one from the BBC television series, that Christopher Lee appeared in 2000. The episode I've selected is in my humble opinion, the best of the series, also forgive my indulgence, it's my favorite Ghost Story. Maybe because I first hear it, in another BBC televised drama of the story, starring ROBERT HARDY, way back in 1971, when I was but a terrified little chap, hiding behind my grandmother's sofa! Christopher Lee really does a fabulous reading, that I am sure you'll enjoy. You'll probably need to get that mulled wine on the boil, as this is a real Christmas Chiller! Merry Christmas! Enjoy!

THE OLD ACID BATH TRICK! VINCENT PRICE TAKES A DIP!
#GETTHECUSHIONITSCUSHING:
Scream and Scream Again (1970) has the honor of being the first film
to star Vincent Price, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, though Price
and Lee only share screen time in the film's climax, and Cushing, in his
brief scene, shares no screen time with either Price or Lee.
A somewhat confusing film, in fact Price said he never understood the
script at all. It was based on the novel "The Disoriented Man" by Peter
Saxon. The film was a co-production between Amcius and AIP with Milton Subotsky getting the rites to the novel and financing from AIP.
If anyone out there has read the book, would be curious to know how closely the film follows it? Here is the weird scene in which Vincent Price as Dr. Browning is fighting with Konratz played by Marshall Jones.

#TBT #HAPPYBIRTHDAY AND GIF TO GINA VAMPIRE GIRL HAMMER ARTWORK AND UNCANNY CATS!
#THROWBACKTHURSDAY : Hammer films were very good at recycling things... costumes, film sets, music...and promotional artwork. Above, there is a teaser for you!
#THROWBACKTHURSDAY AND #Happybirthday to GINA the VAMPIRE GIRL, actress Andre Melly from Hammer films, 'The Brides of Dracula'. Melly, sister of the late jazz musician George, who was born this day in 1932. As the 'pretty' Gina in 'BRIDES' she terrified audiences with her ability to transform into Baron Meinster's vampire victim, all under the watchful eye and direction of Terence Fisher. Three years later she worked with Fisher again in 'The Horror Of It All' as Natalia Marley.
HERE IS A #THROWBACK to August 1977, and the release of the last film Peter Cushing was to make for Amicus producer, Milton Subotsky, 'THE UNCANNY'. The film was launched in a blaze of indifference at the Montréal Film Festival. It was produced in Canada, with a budget of some 800,000 CA Dollars. It's an odd film, a strange mix from the ol Amicus cookbook, that makes a recipe for something that should have been a whole lot tastier! I am still at a loss why the film was also released under the title of 'Brrrr!'? 'Puuuurrr' YES! 'Brrrr!' no.
'THE UNCANNY' has a great cast, with Cushing acting as the linkage again, with Ray Milland. He plays a nervous wreck called Wilbur Gray. Cushing was not the original choice for casting, but fits the role very well. Is it possible to have a strength in playing the weak???? Donald Pleasence is on board with Cushing again, and even manages to get a photo of himself, as Blofeldt complete with white cat from the James Bond film 'you only live twice' in on the act. Much of the film is delivered in a black comedy style, which maybe confused audiences at the time. But I think it's a great film, with lots of variety and a very entertaining cast.

#TBT PIRATE AND OPERA DOUBLE BILL HAMMER HORRORS FROM 1962
PETER CUSHING IN HIS ELEMENT HERE, 56 years ago he swung across the congregation of one Reverend Blyss, on location in a church that sat just outside the Hammer studios, in the sleepy village of Bray, England. The church now long gone, but the thrill of watching Peter having a ball and playing a great swash buckling dual role, is a throwback worth celebrating!
#TBT WHAT A GREAT DOUBLE BILL this must have been... Hammer films 'The Phantom of the Opera' with Herbert Lom and Edward de Souza and 'Captain Clegg' / 'Night Creatures' with Peter Cushing! Released in the UK together, Clegg and Phantom was supported by quite an impressive press campaign along with single and double bill cinema quad posters. Personally, Lom id my favourite Phantom, and Dr Blyss was a wonderful role for Peter, who was again given the opportunity to display some swordsmanship and a few stunts into the bargain!

UNIVERSAL FILMS ANNOUNCE EIGHT FILM BLU RAY BOX SET
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOME ENTERTAINMENT have announced the release of their EIGHT HAMMER FILMS BLU RAY BOX SET for SEPTEMBER 13th 2016. The prints in this box set were what made Universal's THE FRANCHISE COLLECTION 'THE HAMMER HORROR SERIES' DVD BOX SET in 2005 the front runner for a long time in the US. Many UK Hammer fans bought the DVD set as an import and upgraded to a dual or non region DVD player in order to get these titles in their collection!
THE ARRIVAL OF THIS BOX SET now getting the BLU RAY treatment is good for US Hammer fans who over the past four years missed out on the release of many of these titles when they were released on BLU RAY in Europe. One hopes that ALL the titles in this set are going to be UPGRADED PRINTS, which brings us to one film in particular in the collection. At the time of the original release of this collection on DVD, 'The Brides of Dracula' print was by far the best print of the lot. THAT particular print we understand was was lost in a fire at SONY back in 2011, sadly affecting all subsequent releases of the film after that time. We have seen several BLU RAY releases though out Europe of this classic Cushing Hammer title on BLU RAY, but not one, was a mark up on the 2005 DVD release. So, maybe the benchmark of quality of all the other titles in this box set will be, as we have seen over the past five years in Europe, and sadly that will mean a below par print of 'BRIDES' too. I guess time will tell . . .
