UNBOXING TARKIN : WHY CINEFICCION IS THE MAGAZINE FOR CUSHING LOVERS : PETER AND THE WOLF AND MUCH MORE

HERE IS AN EXTRACT from Optibotimus Reviews : Hot Toys Star Wars GRAND MOFF TARKIN upload. He does a great job of showing us the Peter Cushing Grand Moff Tarkin figure in HIS FULL upload, so you can see what you'll be getting for your hard earned bucks! It's a BEAUTIFUL figure. More in his upload which you can find HERE!

A HEADS UP on a great feature that appears in ISSUE SEVEN of CINEFICCION magazine. For the past year or so, editor Dario Lavia been generously sending us issues of the magazine. Back in the day, when I avidly collected magazines and books that featured Peter Cushing, it didn't matter then, or now that the written material was in another tongue, other than my own 'primitive English'. CINE FICCION is published in Spanish, and knowing that both here and at the facebook fan page, there many, many for who the language would not be an issue, I invite you to look the great little magazine up! When I was just ten, probably the best books I owned on Hammer films and Peter Cushing also came from a Spanish publisher. It's pages are very well thumbed! While you are browsing the back issues, also take a look at a series of SPECIALS, called TITANS OF HORROR that Dario edited on Karloff, Lugosi, Price, Chaney Snr and Peter Cushing!

I WAS HONORED TO BE  INVITED to write the  prologue for the Peter Cushing book, and went on a trip down memory lane, when I recalled the first time I saw Peter in a movie at the age of six! This isn't the first time, PCAS has appeared in the pages of a CINEFICCION publication. Some of you have kindly messaged over the years suggesting that, many images and features would look quite smart in a book! Well, back last year I opened up our pages, features and posts to Dario and CINEFICCION, and gave them full access to ANY of the features, past and present, plus all photographs within, for monthly publication in the CINEFICCION magazine. So thanks to Dario, PCAS has a platform in PRINT too. They do a VERY good job of presenting the material too! And yes, before you ask.  He does check for any of my grammatical errors and typos, before the presses role.....!

CINEFICCION is THE magazine of classic horror & science fiction movies. Written in Spanish, is edited in Argentina and reaches the whole world. Our last issue devoted to Universal Horrors. Price per issue: USD 8 (+ shipping cost)

WHEN THE PCAS PODCAST hits the net later this year, CINEFICCION will EXCLUSIVELY be the only magazine to carry the full, unpublished  and unedited interviews in print!

YOU CAN FIND CINEFICCION at it's WEBSITE. On FACEBOOK FAN PAGE and ON Facebook GROUPS. MANY of the portraits and artwork on the covers are the beautifully work of Gabriela Rodas. Here is her FACEBOOK PAGE, where you'll find other examples of her work.

THE ARTIST WHO CAPTURED THE BEAUTY IN THE HORROR: BASIL GOGOS IS DEAD.

Very sad to hear of the passing of legendary artist, BASIL GOGOS today. . . I first became aware of his incredible work on the Famous Monsters of Filmland covers... and this one in particular, of Peter Cushing. He leaves behind an enormous body of work, which fans and the lovers of his art will appreciate for many years to come . . .Do you have a favorite Gogo piece... ?

MANY MOONS AGO . .. . I spotted the cover of a certain magazine, on a  magazine rack, the kind you  see at airport news and book stores at airports, in our local newspaper vendors, in a teenie-tiny village, in the South of England.  It was my sixth birthday, and my grandma was taking  holding my hand, making her daily trip , to by her newspaper. I was invited along, because being my special day,  I could pick some sweets / candy from the large glass jars, that stood on shelves, behind the counter. I settled on half a pound of loose Jelly Babies, and while my Gran and shop keeper chatted and he was  weighing them,  looking around, I spotted the strangest cover of a magazine.

I didn't really know what the magazine was about, although I judging by that word 'MONSTERS' in white, and that amazing character on the front, which I guessed, was maybe the Phantom of the Opera ...I knew my monsters from watching the late night movies at my Grandma's . . . I wanted it SO BADLY. But my birthday treat was being poured from the weighing scales scooped sliver bowl, into brown paper bags. I'd blown it! If only I had seen the magazine before my sweet tooth had led me to the Jelly Babies . . . In hindsight, I didn't really need the sweets, because I had the sweetest, kindest Grandma in the world. I left the store holding my Grandma's hand with my right hand, and two bags of Jelly Babies in my left..... but under my arm, were was that magazine, with that amazing art on the cover. From that day on, things would never be the same. . . - Marcus

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: CHRISTOPHER LEES MEDALS GO UNDER THE HAMMER AND ITS FREDDIES 90TH!

NEWS: Sir Christopher Lee's awards, including WW2 medals, will go on sale for as little as £100! Here's a feature from a UK newspaper TODAY. What do you think?? 'The widow of Sir Christopher Lee is to sell the honours he amassed during his lifetime, from wartime medals to film accolades and the badge he received upon being knighted.

Around 50 awards will go under the hammer, representing a remarkable screen career that took Sir Christopher from Hammer Horror to Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and a role as one of the great Bond villains, Scaramanga in The Man With The Golden Gun. The actor died in June 2015, aged 93. In interviews he was reticent about his war record, but he kept a certificate recording the fact that he was mentioned in dispatches in 1944. It will be offered for auction alongside his campaign medals.

Christopher Lee ,  Peter Cushing, and Veronica Carlson with the cast of Hammer films, 'Dracula Has Risen From The Grave' being presented with the Queen's Award for Industry at Pinewood studios.

The lots include the British Film Institute Fellowship Award presented by Johnny Depp in 2013 (estimated to fetch £2,000-£3,000) and the Knight Bachelor badge bestowed by the Prince of Wales when Sir Christopher was knighted in 2009. The star's Bafta Fellowship is the one award that will remain with the family. They will be offered with no reserves, allowing fans the opportunity to acquire a piece of memorabilia for a relatively modest price. The evening auction will take place at Spink's in London on November 1. Lady Lee said: "Christopher was greatly appreciative of the recognition of his fans and his peers, and these honours and awards adorned our apartment for many years, bringing him great pleasure. "It's fitting that now a wider audience might have the opportunity to enjoy them, and to celebrate so many high points of his life.

Christopher Lee was  awarded the BAFTA FELLOWSHIP in 2011

"These awards represent a lifetime of dedicated work and diverse experiences, starting with his role as a young RAF officer in the Second World War, a period that went on to influence him throughout his life. "He remains sorely missed but his family hope that the forthcoming auction will be a celebration of his life and achievements, and a catalyst for future owners of his awards to have many happy memories of their own."

Bestowed by Prince Charles, he became Sir Christopheri Lee Knighted in 2009

A percentage of the sale proceeds will be donated to Denville Hall in north London, a retirement home for actors.

Please join us in wishing #Happybirthday to the one and only Freddie Jones, who is the grand age of 90 TODAY! Freddie is an actor who is always a joy to watch. Always surprising and entertaining. His voice and delivery are unique, as is, his style and the line he follows in all his performances. Never the obvious, always the unpredictable path. There are have been many highs in the Freddie Jones career, but for us here today, we focus on his roles where working with Peter Cushing, brought us EXTRA value and entertainment.

As the wrecked and manipulated, Professor Julian Keeley in Hammer films, 'The Satanic Rites of Dracula' in 1973, to the pathetic and trapped Professor Richter in 'Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed' in 1969.

Freddie Jones still works, as busy as ever...some would say wasted in a disposable soap opera... but disposable or not, Freddie has played the role of Sandy Thomas since 2005, and in all 552 episodes of ITV's 'Emmerdale', with the same level of authenticity and investment, as any role he has played since he began his long career back in 1960. Fifty six years, and still you can't take your eyes off him! Happy Birthday Freddie From Us All!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY:! I LOVE it when you send in pics, comments, reviews...candy! This was sent in today by Mark Waddington from the UK. How many of you remember this magazine and this PETER CUSHING GALLERY????
