HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE OTHER TARKIN AND HOUSE MAKES A HALLOWEEN SPLASH ON FILMFAX PLUS COVER!

TODAY WE ARE MARKING a birthday of an actor, that just a few years ago any Cushing or Star Wars fans and the actor involved would never have believed if you told them, how the three would connect! When the idea of bringing Tarkin back to the big screen, this  actor was very busily working in a UK soap drama... and then come the beginning of December2016 he was thrust into the spotlight, following huge anticipation for the arrival of the STAR WARS movie, #ROGUEONE. But remember, Henry wasn't just playing any character though, this was a role that would split the opinion of Cushing fans, movie goers and Star Wars Followers, the world over....  A Job Well done, Mr Henry 😉 A VERY Happy Birthday to you, have a great day!

A FOOTNOTE to this post, as it  appears on the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE  'On the subject of Tarkin CGI' 'This is one of those little nuts that is never going to be cracked. I think, like all things about film, it depends on your personal perspective... on the week Rogue One was released I did a live ...hour long...interview on WGN radio about the film. I knew, it was going to be tricky. The angle really was 'What do you think? should they have done it, was it ok to put a CGI Cushing of Tarkin in the film?'... and I stand on what I said back then. You'll never please everyone no matter how good the CGI is.. but more to the point, they had the OK of Cushing's estate to do it . . knowing PC well, I trust their judgement. As for the point of, 'It ain't REAL!'... well, I hate to burst your bubble, but hey, this is Star Wars.. it's a fantasy, nothing you are seeing up there is real.. it's a movie.vWould Cushing have ok'ed the idea? Well, as you would have seen from many posts we have shared with here, we are talking about a man who 'created' toy theatres and model actors, he spent months making figures, painted water colours and oils, spent time on the floor setting up his model soldiers, re-enacting battles in his 'miniature gaming', re-creating . . you decide... ;)' - Marcus (pcas)

OUT NOW! ISSUE 155 of the magazine '#FILMFAX' has the cast of the 1983 film 'The House of the Long Shadows' #VincentPrice, #ChristopherLee, #PeterCushing and #JohnCarradine... as part of their #Halloween issue, there is a feature on the film . . . it got a bit of a slapping on its release and after years of a grotty quality VHS release finally made a grand re entrance on blu ray.

ABOVE AND BELOW: 'The House Of The Long Shadows' : The House That Armstrong and Walker built!' Parts ONE and  TWO HERE!

DEPENDING on which release you buy, the extras will range from very good to 'well that is just weird' ... I will say no more. Nice cover. But that pose of Cushing, always looks cut and pasted to me...

KINO TURNS ON THE LIGHTS IN NEW LONG SHADOWS BLU RAY RELEASE SEPT 2015

KINO's latest offering from their Studio Classics Line, House of the Long Shadows on blu ray, offers an attraction that no video / dvd or blu ray has been able to furnish us with yet... a print of the film, that you CAN actually SEE! KINO's release is presented in AVC encoded 1080p high definition framed at 1.85.1 widescreen...and looks all the better for it. C'mon there are SHADOWS and there is just too plain DARK!

I spotted a review by Ian Jane at the DVDTALK.COM website and I'm attaching the link here and at the bottom of this piece, so you can read for yourself, about this release....Here also for the very few who don't know what they're missing, if you've not SEEN this film, pardon the pun... there are some good points I've pulled out from Ian's review...

:"Director Pete Walker's horror comedy The House Of The Long Shadows never got a domestic DVD release outside of an MOD/DVD-R release from MGM (which featured a shoddy full frame tape sourced transfer), which is surprising when you consider the pedigree of talent involved in the picture." In KINO's blu ray release you can actually see what's going on inside the shadowy interiors now and detail and texture are strong across the board."

:"On the extras interview with Pete Walker he says,  how this movie basically got him out of retirement, working with Golan and Globus, how the film was basically a nostalgia piece and how everyone in the world absolutely loved Peter Cushing"

"The House Of The Long Shadows maybe could and should have been more than it is but as it stands, it's a blast watching four screen legends unite (in the only film the four of them would appear together in) for a genuinely enjoyable mix of humor, horror and mystery. Kino's Blu-ray release offers a massive upgrade over the previous release and it throws in some quality supplements as well, giving this amusing and charming picture the special edition it deserves. Highly recommended.... Now all you lucky folks in the US, it's safe, the LIGHTS ARE ON....go get your copy!

WHEN FRASER TENNANT MET PETER CUSHING. A CHANCE MEETING IN THE CAVENDISH BOOK STORE IN WHITSTABLE.

When Fraser Met Peter Cushing: Thanks to Fraser Tennant who sent in this pic of his meeting with PC in Whitstable back in 1986. If you have pic of a meeting with Peter Cushing that you'd like to share, we'd love to share it!

Here's Fraser story behind this meeting: 'This picture was taken on 27 July 1986 in Whitstable, Kent, but outside a bookshop (the name of which I can no longer recall). My family and I had gone to Whitstable on holiday with the vague notion of perhaps meeting Cushing , I cannot recall why we thought this, but it was around the time of the publication of his first autobiography. We visited the afore-mentioned bookshop where we were told that he was away. As we were leaving Whitstable we stopped at the Tudor Tea Rooms where we encountered the man himself.

Being slightly intimidated at that time, my father approached him first and then I went over to speak to him face-to-face. I remember he was reading a Sherlock Holmes story. Next he kissed my mother’s hand and we all discussed a few things including that week’s Royal Wedding (Andrew and Sarah) and the House of the Long Shadows film. He then went outside and got on his bike and we went back to meet him at the bookshop where the picture was taken and he signed a number of items for me including the book and some photographs. I’m really so glad that we got a picture as memory does tend to fade after a while....'

'THE HOUSE OF THE LONG SHADOWS' NOW ON BLU RAY FOR THE FIRST TIME!

For anyone recently watching the recent DVD release of 'HOUSE OF THE LONG SHADOWS' thinking, I wish this was available on Blu Ray....Wish no more, because it IS! Slipped out quietly this week. It's a release by KOCH MEDIA. The disc is in English / German. The extras are nothing to write home about, but you can add this 'bluey' to your Cushing Collection!

The American writer Kenneth Magee makes a bet with his publisher, to write in a single night, a horror novel. The publisher counters and sends Magee in an old country house where supposedly no one has lived for decades. The Haunted 'House of the Long Shadows' proves to be a collection of terrible events, as a hotbed of poison attacks, murder and manslaughter. Who is the brutal killer who takes a bloody trail of death through this house? Magee fears for his life, as already some corpses block the way to the exit, and he feels that he will be next. But suddenly, in the misty dawn, the ghostly nigh
t takes a completely unexpected outcome.
