SCREAM FACTORY ANNOUNCES REMASTERED HAMMER FILMS CLASSIC!

NEWS: US Label Scream Factory have announced they are to put out Hammer's Dracula Prince Of Darkness (1966) starring Christopher Lee., Francis Matthews and Barbara Shelley.

ON THE FACE OF IT a REMASTERING of any Hammer Film is always good news, especially if it stars Christopher Lee! But, as sales of some of the Hammer catalogue have proved in the past, the releasing of a title that has already been released many times before, is a gamble. The success of the Warner Brothers box set a few years ago, was a blu ray triumph. Even though the package didn't include any extras, the titles themselves and the REGION ZERO option that they gambled, made the whole deal worth every penny. Already the news has been shared at our  FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE  and the response is mixed. Maybe the extras, when finalised, will hopefully give this release, the chance to empty the stocks, and encourage other Hammer titles to get the same remastered treatment?

THE DETAILS SO FAR . . .
• Official street date is December 18th for U.S. and Canada territories (Region A)
• Release will come with a slipcover (guaranteed for three months after its original release date)
• The newly-commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from artist Mark Maddox. This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will showcase the original theatrical poster art design.
• Extras are still underway and will be announced later in Nov. We are reconfirming today though that we have an all-new High-Def transfer in the works.

SUZAN FARMER 1942 - 2017

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY! : News is just coming through that that actress SUZAN FARMER has died. This is sad to hear. Farmer has special place in lots of Hammer films fans hearts, BBC Sci Fi lovers too... She appeared quite a few features with Christopher Lee..in Devil Ship Pirates with Christopher Lee and was outstanding in Dracula, Prince of Darkness . . . her shock reaction to seeing the count in the room, when she thought she was safe in the monastery...was memorable.

A talented actress and certainly gifted . . with appearances in Blake's Seven, Dracula Prince of Darkness, UFO, The Persuaders, Rasputin, the Mad Monk . . . she has a not too shoddy a body of work. Do you have a favorite role of Suzan's??

REMEMBERING PRUDENCE HYMAN ON HER BIRTHDAY TODAY

She was the subject of our #MonsterMonday requested Gallery yesterday and today... we celebrate her BIRTHDAY! Today we remember, Prudence Hyman, the actress and dancer who played Barbara Shelly's alter ego in Hammer films, 'The Gorgon'. Not the easiest of roles to play, especially when you have six pounds of wig and writhing rubber serpents balancing on your head. Hammer couldn't quite pull it off when it came to the reveal, but Prudence did a grand job, petrifying Peter Cushing and setting her place in stone, in the Hammer films Walk of Fame. Happy Birthday Prudence!

MONSTERMONDAY : THIS WEEKS REQUEST HAMMER FILMS : THE GORGON

It's MONDAY. It's MONSTERMONDAY! Every week, we ask you to request a 'monster' for us to feature in a gallery at our website. This MONDAY, it's a request from TRACEY WOODWARD from Birmingham, UK.Tracey says, "Pictures please of the lady with the Snake head! And Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. And my favourite Dr Who too, Patrick Troughton! Did you know the actress who played the Gorgon in this Hammer film, was a ballet dancer, Prudence Hymen? She was really beautiful when she was a young dancer. I wonder why Hammer picked her?? Thank you in advance. Best wishes, keep up the great work, Tracey"....

Thank YOU Tracey. Here's your gallery AND there's much more in an extension of this feature posted at the FACEBOOK FAN PAGE... in the next hour. If YOU have a REQUEST for a MonsterMonday, drop us a line!

Well, her she is in all her glory... Prudence Hyman, in her dancing days...and in a reference photograph belonging to the make up artist on the film, Roy Ashton. I am not sure why Hammer choose Prudence, but I do have some recollection of Roy telling me, it was something the props guys had in mind, in connection with how the Gorgon would move on camera...she had to float and have grace. So, they hired a dancer! There is for those who are not aware of it, a whole back story of misfires and trial and error, in regard of the Gorgon's look in this film...and those troublesome snakes...!
