#ChristopherLee #Space1999 #PCASuk Gallery One! 'Space 1999' was a UK television series produced by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, that ran from 1975-77. The Anderson's were the first pioneers of children's sci fi entertainment, famous for their marionette string puppet casts and very detailed model sets featuring high tension drama that often ended with quite convincing huge explosions!
TOGETHER, Gerry and Sylvia with their partnership company Century 21, were responsible for pulling huge audiences for their first 'Supermarionation' productions of 'Stingray' 'Fireball XL5' 'Thunderbirds' 'Joe 90' and 'Captain Scarlet' . In the 1970's the Anderson's moved away from marionette players, to live action casts that often featured impressive casts of British and American actors. 'Space 1999' was probably the most successful of these.
SPACE 1999 series one, also featured both #PeterCushing and #ChristopherLee as the lead characters in their own episode, Cushing in 'The Missing Link' (UK broadcast Jan 22, 1976) and Lee in 'Earthbound' (UK broadcast Dec 4, 1975) Very good dramas, with Lee and Cushing having very similar costumes and . . long hair wigs.
CHRISTOPHER LEE'S character wig, seems to have given problems' with its 'slippage' during shooting .. at one point even escaping the attention of makeup and hair dept and appearing briefly on screen. I have TWO galleries of rare stills to share with you this week. Seeing Lee working on set, relaxing and being endlessly attended to by hair and wardrobe, must have given him pause for thought!
DURING THE MAKING of 'EARTHBOUND' the was a visit to the set by the great TV and film producer and mogul, Lew Grade, and at one point, production halts as actor #RoyDotrice
is derailed by the crew of the ITV series, 'This Is Your Life' as their
latest victim (broadcast March 20th 1974).. Lee looks on, probably
reliving the trauma of his recent appearance on the series, being the
victim / subject matter the year before, (UK broadcast April 3rd 1974)
ABOVE: A VERY INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING EVENT! ALL WILL BE REVEALED IN A PCASuk FEATURE AND GALLERY HERE AND AT THE Facebook PCASuk Fan Page NEXT WEEK!
I HOPE YOU enjoy these quite interesting stills, of what was a very
professional crew and set, all working and committing to what was once
cutting edge television, and still is very entertaining drama! Gallery
