ALAN RICKMAN DIED TODAY . . .

The terribly tragic news of the passing of Alan Rickman, has just been announced. Although he never had the chance to work with Peter Cushing, he too was such a kind, talented and gifted man... in 1991 he too played the Sheriff of Nottingham on the big screen in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Until that point there was only one Sheriff for me... Truly Madly, Deeply, Die Hard, Love Actually and the Harry Potter films... a huge lost..

RICHARD PASCO CBE DIES 1926 - 2014

Very sad to hear of Richard Pasco passing recently. Richard Pasco appeared with Peter Cushing in: Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960) The Gorgon (1964)

'Richard Pasco, who has died aged 88, was one of the finest classical actors of his generation. Though he did not achieve the star status that would have come from appearing in a long-running TV series, no one who saw it will ever forget his alternation of the roles of Richard II and Bolingbroke in a famous 1973 RSC production. Gifted with a mellifluous voice and a strong presence, he worked with all the major companies, including long stints at Bristol Old Vic and Birmingham Rep in their heyday. Pasco had a prolific, stage-driven career that few young actors today can hope to emulate.'

HAMMER FILMS: SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST: PETER CUSHING SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM

Peter Cushing as the dashing yet villainous 'Sheriff of Nottingham' in Hammer's SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST (1960) directed by Terence Fisher. The script seems unsure whether the 'Sheriff' is the real villain or not. In fact, Richard Pasco's 'Earl of Newark' is the real baddie (Oliver Reed plays his back-stabbing henchman 'Lord Melton').

Cushing says more with a look than most actors can with a soliloquy and though the screenplay never really takes full advantage his true talents it's well worth a watch. Hammer's handsomely mounted film is an adaptation of the popular television series THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD with Richard Greene reprising his starring role. Cushing, second-billed, earned £3,500 for his role.
