PETER THE GREAT : RARE 'ALEXANDER' 1955 STILLS

TWO RARE STILLS TWO of  #PeterCushing as General Memnon in 'Alexander the Great' (1955) Cushing recalls hi working on 'Alexander' in his second autobiography, 'Past Forgetting' 'As the Athenian General Memnon... having taken a fond farewell of my wife, played by Clare Bloom. I rode a horse, bareback, to be slaughtered in the battle of Granicus, by #RichardBurton's legions!!!'

CUSHING'S quite athletic frame severed him well in this film, as he must have had quite a physical ability and stamina, for those retakes! Peter often when asked about his horse riding ability would jest and say he 'took those scenes at my peril' but one can see, he was quite an established natural rider, even when riding bareback. Peter Cushing's placing in what was quite an international cast was a big boost to his film career.

THERE IS NO DOUBT, he was a gaining quite a presence, having performed excellently in 'The End of the Affair' and winning several Best Actor Awards for his television work.. in a time, he was often to be found either on tv or BBC radio dramas. As proof, in addition to 'Alexander the Great', Cushing had been very busy during 1954 and 55 on television appearing in 'Richard of Bordeaux ' 'The Browning Version' 'The Moment' and #Nigel Kneals' 'The Creature' .. later to be produced as a film adaption in 1957 for #Hammerfilms 'The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas' with Cushing starring with Forest Tucker. - Marcus
