PAUL EDDINGTON REMEMBERED TODAY : THE GOOD LIFE YES MINISTER AND HAMMER FILMS

TODAY, at the PCASUK website and facebook fan page, we mark and celebrate the birthday of actor, Paul Eddington born today, 18 June 1927

MANY IN THE UK, will remember Paul for the very popular and cosy BBC TV series 'The Good Life' which first screened back in 1975. Another two BBCTV series 'Yes Minister' (1980–84) and 'Yes, Prime Minister' (1986–88) were for many must watches, as the scriptwriters and cast, often sailed very close to the actual political shenanigans of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her Conservative party at the time.

APPEARING IN SEVERAL, BBC plays and drama's, Paul also worked alongside #PeterCushing, in a 1963 flagship serial drama, 'The Spread Eagle' as Marcus Brutus, Cushing as Caius Cassius, meaty roles with a sizeable budget, playing conspirators in the murder of Julius Caesar

BACK IN 1968, Paul scored big time with #HammerFilm fans who much enjoyed his supporting role in Hammer Films' The Devil Rides Out (1968) as Richard Eaton, with a supporting cast of #ChristopherLee, #CharlesGray and director, Terence Fisher. 'Spread of Eagle' would be the only time when Eddington and Cushing, worked together, but they remained friends, until Cushing's passing in August 1994.

EDDINGTON, was one of a selection of close friends who attended Cushing's 80th Birthday party, just a year before Cushing passed. Eddington was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, known as mycosis fungoides, when he was 28. The ailment was to cause his death eventually, but in the intervening four decades, Eddington and his immediate family kept his condition private.

IT ONLY BECAME public knowledge in 1994, when Eddington responded to press speculation about his darkening skin and hair loss. He continued to work in theatre and television. Eddington was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1987 New Year Honours. In January 1995, a memorial service was held in The Actor's Church in Covent Garden, for Peter Cushing, Paul Eddington attended with his wife, along with Christopher Lee, Joanna Lumley, Richard Briers, Ron Moody, Kevin Francis and James Bree. Paul Eddington was, a brave man, with an impressive talent for comedy and drama, and held with much respect and love, by his friends and peers.

PAUL EDDINGTON died in Southwark, London, on 4th November 1995. He and Patricia, his wife of 43 years, had three sons and a daughter. Paul Clark Eddington CBE (18 June 1927 – 4 November 1995), remember today . .
