TODAY BEING #SHERLOCKSUNDAY! at the Facebook PCASUK Fan Page, we present 'The Solitary Cyclist' STORY FOUR of thirteen, one every Sunday from 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes' read by Peter Cushing, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. One of the many charming things about Peter reading these stories is his forever crisp diction and engaging reading style. One thing that surprised me with the stories so far, is the obvious fun Cushing is no doubt having, occasionally swinging in and out of character voices and accents! Something we rarely got to see him do on screen in the many scenes of some 92 films! Peter Cushing's recordings were originally recorded and published in the UK by the Royal National Institute for the Blind in 1971.
THE SOLITARY CYCLIST, is one of my personal favourites.. when first reading
the Holmes stories, I was young enough to know little of life, so
couldn't or want to try and guess the ending... and Solitary Cyclist,
has some lovely touches, here Cushing swings in and out as Mrs Violet
Smith . .'Oh he was hideously strong!' . . and it's a joy listen to,
for sure. 'The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist' is one of Doyle's short
stories, first published in the Collier's magazine, 26th December 1903
(US) and in The Strand Magazine in January 1904 (UK). This is the 31st
Sherlock Holmes story. There will be another story from 'The Return of
Sherlock Holmes' read by Peter Cushing, next Sunday 😊
