REMEMBERING VALERIE GAUNT TODAY : CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN

REMEMBERING Today we remember Valerie Gaunt. VALERIE'S short career on the big screen featured only in two films, and they were along side Peter Cushing. Just two roles, but they left a lasting impact, that would outlast many longer career! Her playing of Justine in 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1957) and her performance in Hammer films,1958 'Dracula' hold a special place for lovers of fantasy cinema. Born Valerie Shelia Gaunt, on the 9th July 1932 in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, England, following an interest in amateur theater, after leaving school embarked on a career as a model, before auditioning for Hammer and landing her first professional role in 1957. Gaunt married her husband Gerald Alfred Reddington on May 17th, 1958.

PETER CUSHING'S role in the clip above is short, but matters!

VALERIE GAUNT passed away, aged 84 after a short illness in November 2016.

NEWS: TWINS OF EVIL GETS UK BLU RAY RELEASE FROM NETWORK SEPTEMBER 8TH

British distributors Network have officially announced and detailed their upcoming Blu-ray releases of John Hough's Twins of Evil (1971) and Peter Sasdy's Countess Dracula (1971). The two releases will be available for purchase on September 8th.

TWINS OF EVIL:
Directed with characteristic style and energy by cult filmmaker John Hough (The Legend Of Hell House, The Watcher In The Woods) and starring horror legend Peter Cushing, Twins of Evil (15) combines the signature Hammer elements of supernatural horror, black humour and fabulously lurid sensuality.

Featuring an all-time classic score by Harry Robinson, Twins Of Evil also stars Kathleen Byron (Black Narcissus), Isobel Black (The Kiss of the Vampire) and Dennis Price (Kind Hearts and Coronets), and featuring Mary and the late Madeleine Collinson as the twins.
Glamorous identical orphaned twins Maria and Frieda move from Vienna to the village of Karnstein to take up a new life with their submissive aunt and grim uncle - a fanatical Puritan and leader of a witch-hunting religious sect who is determined to kill his nemesis, Count Karnstein: a devil-worshipping libertine who has been turned into a vampire.

Genre stalwart Peter Sasdy (Hands of the Ripper) directs arguably his best Hammer film, from a script by award-winning writer Jeremy Paul and showcasing a rousing score from composer Harry Robinson.

In medieval Hungary, Countess Elisabeth Nádasdy, an embittered, ageing widow, discovers by accident that virgin's blood causes her skin become youthful and smooth. Determined to retain her new youth at all costs, the Countess coerces her lover to abduct a string of young virgins to keep her supplied with the blood she now craves to stay beautiful...

INGRID PITT AND THE THEATRE ROYAL CUSHING BUST : OCTOBER 1998

OCTOBER 1998: Ingrid Pitt Unveils Bust Of Peter Cushing
At Chatham Theatre:

Ingrid said on her website at the time: 'One of the best `do's' I've been to recently was down in Chatham. A group of theatre lovers have got together to try and save The Theatre Royal. It was a project dear to the heart of Peter Cushing and it now looks as if, with the council backing it, there maybe a future for the derelict theatre. I was there to open an exhibition of Peter's water colours and unveil a bust of his head.'

She goes on to say, 'Sheila Gray, secretary of the restoration group, rang me a couple of days after my visit and told me that at last the local council have decided to help out with a welcome £50,000. Now I don't want to claim that my visit had anything to do with the councils belated magnanimity but..... whatever the reason, I was asked back in October and presented with a life-size head of Peter Cushing. Tit for tat! In Vampire Lovers he decapitated me - now I've got my own back. I wish Peter had been there to see it, it would have suited his sense of humour!'

PETER CUHING : SHANE BRIANT : MADELINE SMITH: FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL : HAMMER FILMS

FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL Hammer Films (1972/1974) Peter Cushing, Shane Briant and Madeline Smith. SMITH: 'I look at that film now and wonder who the girl is. With her very dark hair, a bit podgy in the fizzog, nothing like me at all.

I remember that Peter was lovely to work with, but I was still rather nervous because he was such a big star. He got on well with Shane, who was as ferocious in his way about what he did as Peter was. It was terrible to see what grief had done to Peter. He was so painfully thin, and it was if the light had gone out of his eyes. He paid no heed to the hoot-and hollerers, and just got quietly on with the business of making our little film'
