ON SET 1974 BEHIND THE SCENES ON AMICIS FILMS / INDICATOR'S BLU RAY 'THE BEAST MUST DIE'

#MAKINGAWEREWOLF was a 'Dawg Gone Problem!', in 1974 . . that's for sure. And as we will probably learn from some of the 'extras' 'interviews' included on the soon to be released BLU Ray from #Indicatorfilms of Amicus films, 'The Beast Must Die'.. it was quite a job! Here are some photographs from the on set shooting days on the film, where 'The Beast' was needed and in residence. The 'experts on hand from Ted Samuels, make up Paul Rabiger and John Hilling from wardrobe, all appear to have had a hand in coming up with a solution. I am not expert and no nothing about dogs, I have a dribbling, furry log, who looks wild boar, that passes himself off as a pedigree PUG called Barney, and I believe him! 😮😃What breed of dog they are using here, I have no idea! Maybe you do? But with some added fur, teeth and attitude, they pull it off I think... just about ðŸ˜Š

FANS APPEAR to be as torn as a pair of 'postman's ravaged pants', on this film. Which I find odd. It's Amicus they did their own thing, only one Gothic film, mostly contemporary settings. Milton and Max left the tradition horror films to Hammer, who had more cash to bash a horror film. Amicus did different and took risks too!

ANYWAY, here are some more pics from the #PCASUK clutter for you to have a look at. I think it's worth noting that #INDICATOR / #POWERHOUSE has started to really build itself a sterling and quite trusted reliable reputation for BLU RAY and BOX SETS of considerable quality and content! SEVERAL of their #HAMMERFILMS collections have treated fans and collectors alike to very interesting titles supported with quite a stash of surprising extras (The recent Indicator Hammer Box Set 'FACES OF FEAR' VOLUME FOUR' included an impressive 4k remastering of 'The Revenge of Frankenstein' with the inclusion of some very rarely seen 'On Set' and Behind the scenes trims and footage of the #Braystudio floor during shooting with #PeterCushing, Francis Matthews, Eunice Gayson and Oscar Quitak) As, hoped, the '#THEBEASTMUSTDIE' blu ray also comes with its own bank of extras and goodies! It's open for pre-orders of it's LIMITED release right now 😉 - Marcus

MARKING THE ANNIVERSARY OF 'PETER CUSHING AND CHRISTOPHER LEE'S' FINAL MEETING: ONE LAST TIME

AS POPULAR AS EVER, a clip from the PCASUK 'Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee: One Last time' clipped was shared on the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE today . . .

ABOVE: MY TWO favorite clips from the series. The first a wonderful story from Christopher Lee about VINCENT PRICE and, here second both Cushing's and Lee's 'black sense of humour' shines through, with a message to Cushing, from Lee's wife, Gitta 😉

From the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE: 'THIS WEEK marks the last time Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee spent time with each other... as I am sure many of you know, that last engagement together was work, and the recording of the narration of Ted Newsom's Hammer films documentary, 'Flesh and Blood'. The date was the 17th May 1994, and both Peter and Christopher Lee sat to have some photographs taken for publicity, before recording. What started as a few questions, soon turned into an hour of candid and relaxed conversation and memories. Thankfully, unplanned the whole session was video'd, with a domestic video camera. We have shared much of that recording here, at the pcasuk website and our youtube channel . . .

THAT PETER would no longer be with us, in just a few weeks time wasn't expected. But, as far as Peter was concerned, he couldn't wait to be reunited with his late wife, Helen. Here's one of my favourite clips. As for more, you'll find them at our youtube channel... and new clips, stay tuned for May 26th this year 😀 . . . and we all know, what day that is? 😉

LAUGHTER ON THE SET BUT HOOTS STOPPED FOR DRACULA GIFS! GIFS! GIFS!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYGIFS! ON SET during the making of Amicus Films, 'MADHOUSE' it's two leading stars, Peter Cushing and Vincent Price walk through their characters greeting on meeting each other . . . cue laughter and jokes about Price's poor Paul Toombes, having been 'away' at the local Hollywood asylum for the last five years. It was by all accounts a difficult film to produce. Under written characters, bulked out in late night writing session between co star Robert Quarry and Vincent. All things considered, you would never know it, when watching the film . . .

#SILENTBUTDEADLYGIFS! . . . Not so deadly, this one...more charming! Taken from our collection of video clips of the last time Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee worked together...well saw each other, while recording a narration for a Hammer Films documentary.... still playful, still fun and still very much devoted friends. You can find all the clips on the The Last Meeting: One Last Time at our PCAS PCAS YOUTUBE CHANNEL, listen and watch what made their friendship so special . . .

#SILENTBUTDEADLYGIFS! I REALLY DID feel sorry for Christopher Lee's character in this film . . he was pompous, and opinionated... but what a twisted thing to do...and a twisted story! Can you name the film, this gif was taken from? Take a look at the vintage still below, and see if you can 'solve' that question too?

#SILENTBUTDEADLYGIFS : A NICE touch from Peter Cushing's General von Spielsdorf in 'The Vampire Lovers' (1970) . . . whenever Peter met a woman, female, lady, in public either for the first time or anytime, he always greeted them with a gentle kiss upon the back of the hand. I have read many features and interviews where the female interviewer or journalist, recounted this and saw it as a wonderfully gallant and profound act of gentlemanly manners . . . I am not so sure that, if Peter were around us today, he would feel safe to make such a gesture either!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYGIFS! IT WAS CHRISTOPHER LEE who one said, when he and Peter Cushing attended the US premier of Hammer films, 'Dracula /Horror of Dracula (1958) that when THIS shot appeared at the end of the opening credits, a roar of laughter and hoots went up, from the attending audience. Lee was ready to leave the cinema right then. Cushing, placed his hand of Lee's arm and told him, to stay with it. A few minutes after, hoots still prevailing, for the first time Lee's Dracula stood at the top of the long stairs inside Castle Dracula, he walked down them to meet Jonathan Harker . As soon as he spoke, the whole cinema, fell silent. It was the first time his Dracula was seen on the screen, and it would be one of the very few times, he would speak . . .through out the ENTIRE SEVEN FILM series!

#GETTHECUSHIONSUNDAY: THE HAMMER FILM THAT ALMOST DIDNT MAKE IT!

#GETTHECUSHINGSUNDAY! If you are a fan of the work of Peter Cushing, the title of one #HammerFilm in particular, will strike a chord of sadness, Blood from The Mummy's Tomb (1971) was probably the only film in Peter Cushing's career where he requested to be released from his contract, and the company consented. Cushing was just two days into the production of Blood From The Mummy's Tomb at Elstee studios, when his wife, Helen passed.

Just months before, fearing the worse as Helen health was deteriorating he had requested, for his contract with the production 'The House That Dripped Blood' without success. As you will see from the documentary the film was blighted from the beginning and before the shooting was wrapped, the film would also sadly loose it's director, Seth Holt . . . On Cushing leaving his role of Professor Julian Fuchs was, at the last minute, recast and Andrew Keir did good as the Professor . . .

#SILENTBUTDEADLY!: SEEING IS BELIEVING! #GIFS

#SILENTBUTDEADLY! : Without giving anything away about this film, you can clearly SEE something very important is going on here HA! The Amicus films #DRTERRORSHOUSEOFHORRORS was a bench mark time for Amicus, that after 'City of the Dead' informed Subostsky and Rosenberg, in which direction they should explore. If you have been watching our uploads of the Donald Fearney excellent mammoth documentary 'The Amicus Vault of Horrors' you see, every time Amicus went off in a different direction, a drama, a different theme..the film bombed at the box office. So, we can be thankful that Cushing's Dr Shreck and Co, were a big hit. Unlike these poor guys, the Amicus future after this scene, wasn't very bleak one!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! How was character actor Michael Ripper to know that, when he first read the 'HIDDEN FROM SIGHT, POACHER SEES 7ft TALL FIGURE WRAPPED IN BANDAGES, FROM BEHIND THE BUSHES' simple description in his script, that he would be forever associated with this short scene?. I have sat with friends.. . .we don't get out much.. and examined this shot. To try and discover, what is it that makes it so superbly funny. Ripper was a master of these roles. It was probably the thinnest of descriptions on the page, but from that, scriptwriter Anthony Hinds knew the role would be safe in Ripper's hands and Christopher Lee would supply the fright factor!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! : THE 'I THNK I AM SEEING THINGS OR going Out Of My Mind' and the 'Wife / Husband Driving Their Partner Around The Bend With Set Up's Orchestrated By Their Lover' is as old as the hills. BUT, it's a popular scenario in Horror and thrillers. Despite having watched probably hundreds of these fantasy films over the years, I still have that ability  that many jaded fans lost a thousand films ago. When I sit to watch a film, unless it's a really poorly scripted one, I just let the story take me along. I am not in the biz of playing amateur sleuth, or critic, picking the plot apart after the credits role. I enjoy these movies, that's why I watch them. I still have a certain naivety, when it comes to being entertained. I come to be fooled, mislead, I am the script writers dream audience. I am not busy sat there trying to work it out. Nope. I paid my five dollars / pounds, I want my monies worth... entertain me.

Which is why, in this tale from 'The House That Dripped Blood' : 'Method For Murder', I never saw the REVEAL in this story coming! Ha! I was with Denholm Elliott's  character, Charles Hillyer all of the way. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? If not, why are you watching?? As I said, from the off, I recognized the set up, but I wasn't expecting the wrap! Neither did I recognize that actor playing Dominick, the voice of UK's Channel Four four years, the late Tom Adams. Yup, I get good value out of most the films I see. Hey, I was the last person during our family viewing of all those terrible murders, to realize it was, Norman!

#SILENTBUTDEADLYWEDNESDAY! And finally, Peter Cushing's Colonel William Raymond SEES Alex Hyde- White's Jim Ferguson, in 'Biggles: Adventures In Time' from 1986. See? It doesn't get any better than that . . . .

FEARNEY'S DOCUMENTARIES HAVE helped to raise the bar and set the standard of excellence in how extras on Hammer / Amicus dvd's and blu rays should be produced! No skimping on materials and rare images from a Fearney documentary! This standard has prompted several distribution company to approach only him when planning a extras-documentary on a Hammer / Amicus release. In the last few years, he has added much extra production value to the releases of The Brides of Dracula, Captain Clegg, Phantom of the Opera and The Evil of Frankenstein, Final Cut blu ray releases.

'THE AMICUS VAULT OF HORRORS' documentary took three years to produce, much of the time collecting rare photographic and archival materials. Along with editor Jim Groom, Donald Fearney has produced the definitive history of Amicus Films. The Amicus Vault of Horrors documentary covers ALL of the Amicus output, in this 2 hour 30 minute documentary. It will be uploaded here at PCAS in 4 weekly parts. I think you'll enjoy it and I would love to read any thoughts and comments you may have on this, part one! ENJOY 🙂 - Marcus
